Warehousing the Goods (November 9, 2014)
Hidden: show
A busy merchant Elad of the Merchant's League tasked a human, Arshes Azumith, from Waterdeep, and an eclectic gnome, Periph, with helping to broker a shipment purchase rate with a merchant captain Eliza delivering a shipment from Neverwinter. Bizarrely, the gnome cast a colorful hands spell on one of Elad's merchant associates aiding the two and ran off before anyone could react, leaving Arshes on his own to deal with the abrasive female captain. After much arguing with the difficult Eliza, Arshes was able to haggle her rate down to below what she usually would get out of Elad for a shipment of goods, something that Elad was quite grateful for. Arshes even helped deliver the purchased goods to a warehouse under Elad's control for eventual sale at market. He further convinced Elad to fairly compensate Eliza for costs incurred on her journey that were not part of the brokerage rate paid to her, possibly leaving the captain feeling well treated despite making less.

Participants:

Periph
Arshes Azumith

Reward: 400XP and a few hundred gold to Arshes as the gnome left before the event ended.

Banking on Profits 2 (November 9, 2014)

((Extra emphasis: If you were not in this event IC, you do not IC know any of the below information beyond what may be in rumors posts IC or what the characters involved tell you IC.))
Hidden: show
Three merchants on continued business from a similar trip tendays earlier arrive in Athkatla and make their way from the sprawling docks district to a private residence of the banking matriarch Lady Aura Coprith in near the Government District. On the way, they encounter all quirks possible in the Amnian capitol, a finely dressed illithid, a metal deal being brokered, escaped chickens, an angry ogre merchant, and wary Amnian soldiers. Arriving at the Coprith residence, one of many in the capitol, the three hear news from a town crier that Lord Orgost Vymmar has had judgement placed against him for beating one of his tenants, forcing the lord to pay the victim a large sum of money as punishment, with apparently some involvement of the Order of the Radiant Heart as a court petitioner, and surprisingly, without being able to use a bribe to avert such an outcome. Surprised, the three then go speak with Lady Aura Coprith, who merely repeats the banking proposal made the last time merchants met with her on the issue, although two of the three present had not heard it from her in person before. After leaving, the merchants stopped by a residence of Lord Orgost Vymmar nearby and asked if he was in. Shockingly, they were then told that he did not want to speak to them again, although he made it clear that his relationship brokerage contract with them regarding the Luraxxols and Bladesmiles was still in effect. The three then stayed in Athkatla a while before going on their way.

Reluctant Cooperation 2 (November 9, 2014)
Hidden: show
Two Lathanderite knights, Cecilia and Eldarian, and one ranger, Alaan, investigated an evidence file given to them by Sheriff de Oca regarding a recently botched corruption investigation.

The file read that a Northern Amnian tax collector of roughly Gold rank, Antolina Burgoz, who was previously accused of home, caravan, and tariff tax embezzlement, before charges were dropped, was let off due to an alibi of being in Crimmor, the caravan capitol of Amn, during the entire time in which the embezzlement took place. This was confirmed by four independent witnesses who swore as much. Two of these witnesses live in Crimmor, while the third, a man named Edgar, at least at the time the file was written, lives in Beregost, but occasionally travels to Crimmor on trade business. A fourth witness, named Juan, a local Beregost tax collector as well, has been reported missing for a few tenday. The addresses and names of all three witnesses are attached. The character profiles on all three of these persons suggests that they are upstanding Amnian citizens.

The group interviewed the merchant Edgar in his home after knocking and being invited in, initially paranoid about the idea, but eventually persuaded to do so by the Lathanderites. Edgar claimed to have known Antolina since childhood in Crimmor, and found him to speak of his friend Antolina as if she was of supreme integrity and character for an Amnian, in addition to having an solid alibi and being innocent of all charges. He confirmed that an about to be charged with corruption Amnian tax collector named Juan mysteriously had not been seen for many tenday, about the same time as when a corrupt tax collector named Pete was executed by Amnian authorities. He also mentioned that if they wanted to speak to a former bookkeeper of Antolina, her accuser, that this bookkeeper owned property on the outskirts of town. The group then went to interview two dodgy street gamblers and found out that they had heard a scream around the time since Juan was last seen and confirmed that he lived nearby. They also confirmed not seeing Juan for a few tenday and that they saw two women, a druid and a merchant woman, around the time that Juan disappeared asking abotu Juan, and a short time later saw them both flea in terror from Juan's home.

The file also mentioned that the woman who originally reported the crime, Angelina, a former local bookkeeper of Burgoz's tax collection office in Northern Amn, also has her Beregost address and name attached. She had reported that the amount of Danters reportedly being sent to Athkatla from Northern Amn did not match the tariff, home tax, and caravan tax amounts reported as collected or recorded. The bookkeeper claimed to also be a witness to someone wearing a black cloak, with golden fringed handcuffs, that tried to break into her records office the night before she reported the crime. The character profile on Angelina suggested that she is an upstanding Amnian citizen.

The group then visited Angelina at her evidence file addressed home nearby, which happened to not be the property Edgar said she owned on the outskirts of town. There, the ranger determined that despite the reported attempted break-in, there was little to no sign of forced entry or clues left at the scene and that none of the framing and doorwork had been newly replaced on the outside of the building despite Angelina claiming there had been repairs. After being invited inside by the pleasant and friendly Angelina, without much convincing necessary, the ranger also noticed that only some minor new doorwork and framing had been done inside of Angelina's home despite Angelina's claims about needing to do more significant repairs after the attempted break in. Angelina, largely disinterested in the three's questioning, tired them of their inquisition after essentially repeating her sworn statement made to the sheriff, and the three then soon left, after finding out that the handy man that supposedly did work on Angelina's door and door framing was a man named Geraldo. The ranger then parted ways and the two Lathanderite knights then paid a quick visit to Juan's home, knocking, with none answering. The door creepily creaked open as they pounded on it and the knights peaked in to investigate, seeing a vacated home, with a slight smell of something burnt. After much searching, they found nothing more than a bookkeeping document of Juan's, then left, none apparently seeing they were ever there and it left unclear whether they even had the sheriff's authority to do such a search.

True Netheril "Love" 2 (November 12, 2014)

((Extra emphasis: If you were not in this event IC, you do not IC know any of the below information beyond what may be in rumors posts IC or what the characters involved tell you IC.))
Hidden: show
The dwarf Cyrus, seeking the Gem of Fidelity, as described in a Nehteril novel translated for him by two of the Amnian Spelunking Society, returns to Missy of the Order of the Silver Rose. Missy had given Cyrus the novel of Netheril originally to research (while an Order knight Penny had given him a ring of Netheril that she found for Cyrus to study). Cyrus asks Missy's order for aid in finding this supposed Gem of Fidelity, allegedly said in the novel to be in a secret palace in the Cloud Peaks in Amn and a powerful artifact of mind control. A group of Order of Silver Rose knights, including Missy, Seth, Elvina, Gina as well as Cyrus then sets out for Amn to investigate this possible location of the supposed gem further, teleporting into the Cloud Peaks mountain pass. There, they prepare for the dangers of the snowy and cold region.

While trekking about looking for hints of the alleged palace's location, they run into a local priestess of Auril, Jasha Istor, returning from a foray into the peaks to her cabin in the foothills above Nashkel. She berates two of the party for wielding fire magics on their blades, ordering them to dismiss the offensive magics to Auril, and compels them to give a respectful gold donation to the Ice God unless they wish to freeze to death in the mountains. The party reluctantly complies with Jasha's wishes and then Cyrus mentions to Jasha what they are in search of: a palace of sorts of Netheril origin that is rumored to be in the mountain region. Having vast knowledge of the Cloud Peaks range's geography, Jasha answers that she has seen a Netheril ruin of sorts that may be what they are looking for and gives them directions: telling them to go far to the east, past the Temple of Auril and over the ridge line beyond, then down into a vast ice field, with the Netheril ruins in the eastern part of the this field. The party then sets off to the east and after a long, cold, and snowy journey reaches a stone ruin of sorts that may be what they seek. They decide to camp in the sheltered walls of the ruins for the night and take turns on watch in doing so. During their rest, however, a large tribe of Frost Giants waylays them in the ruins and proceeds to maniacally bang and shake the stone walls around them in attempt to terrorize them into surrender. One of their party, Missy, cannot stand the loud booming noises of the massive giants pounding the walls of the ruins and runs in terror from the safety of the walls, with Seth and Elvina pursuing her in an attempt to calm her down, all three narrowly missing being clothes lined into the ground by passing frost giants. Those still in the shelter of the ruins then emerge to try to confront the giants head on and are soon encircled by a large group of them. Two giants attempt to antagonize Cyrus and Gina by trying to pick them up and grapple them, but Gina and Cyrus are able to dodge their grapples. Cyrus then assaults one of the giants in retaliation and the whole tribe then piles onto the two in fierce combat. Cyrus is knocked unconscious in the ensuing melee, bruises and cuts about his body as he is severely wounded. Around this time, Elvina and Seth are able to calm down the fleeing and terrified Missy and all three then return to assault the giants from the rear, turning the tide of battle in favor of the knights. The knights are then soon victorious over the giants.

Viewing their mission as a failure and Cyrus as grievously wounded and remaining unconscious, the knights then deliberate on whether to teleport back to the safety of their keep along the Trade Way, but as they are talking about doing so, a loud bang is heard by Elvina as well as the cracking and crumbling of rock, as four illithid looking creatures (in reality alhoon) with red eyes emerge from a blown hole in the side of the ruins and then encircle the knights. Elvina then promptly attempts to teleport the knights to safety, but the attempted spell is blocked by seemingly powerful anti-teleportation magics. The alhoon then speak to the knights psionically in their minds, after failing to mentally assault them into submission, telling them that they know what they were looking for and to either surrender and become willing thralls or have their minds consumed. The knights refuse and a pitched battle ensues. The struggle eventually ends with the alhoon slain, with one of them dropping a gem of sorts as it falls. Elvina promptly spots and picks up the dropped gem and then rushes the party off to the west. As they do so, a frost giant and the chieftain of the earlier slain tribe of frost giants attack them, the chieftain yelling about vengeance for his fallen jotun brothers and sisters as he does so. The giants are fought off and the knights continue west, where feeling safe, they attempt to teleport back to their keep again, now doing so successfully. The knights then promptly enter their keep of the Order of the Silver Rose and place Cyrus in the Illmater healing ward, with the Netheril ring and novel still on his dwarf person, and Elvina places the just found gem in an anti-magic holding cell and chest in a guarded area of the keep. They leave studying the gem for another day, instead now choosing to rest after an exhausting chain of events.

Of "Gods" and Kobolds (November 17, 2014)
Hidden: show
Adventurers discover a large tribe of kobolds tenting in the Lion's Way over two dead humans. They immediately attack the kobolds, without trying to dialogue with them first, then are assaulted by many tens of kobolds more and eventually a few half-dragon cult leaders of the kobolds that the kobolds worship as gods. Finally, the adventurers slayed all of the kobolds and there leaders except for one that they cast a flesh to stone spell on and then captured alive, shackled and bound. They interrogated the cult leader and asked him why he had brought his tribe here. He answered that Frost Giants had run his tribe out of an area to the south and that they were going to new grounds as they pleased. He was furious that the adventurers had killed his flock of zealous worshiping kobolds. The adventurers then argued over whether to bring him to justice in a nearby town, to take him to a new flock of kobolds to rule in the Hilltop Ruins to the north or to execute him. Eventually, taking him to a new group of kobolds lost the argument, as one ranger won the captive in a tug of war with a supporter of taking the cult leader to the ruins north. The ranger then individually decided to execute the half-dragon man by throwing him off a sea cliff into the rocks and waves below. Two adventurers then attempted to extract the dead half-dragon man cult leader from the rocks and waves at the foot of the cliffs, but both died trying.

A Frost Giant Feud in Amn (November 26, 2014)
Hidden: show
Three dwarves of Kraak Helzak adventuring in the Cloud Peak Mountains came across an Amnian infantry squad of soldiers, lead by a Corporal non-commissioned officer of the Amnian military, making its way to the Amnian Citadel of Amnur south of the Cloud Peak mountains from Nashkel. The Amnians have difficulty communicating with the thick dwarven accents of for a time, but eventually it is understand that the Amnian patrol would be joined by the dwarves on part of the way south to the Amnian Citadel fortress south of the peaks. Easily making their way south of the mountains the joint group cut down typical yetis, frost giants, and elementals of wind and air of the area with "For the Glory of Amn" on the Amnian soldiers' lips.

Near the end of their journey together, the Amnians spoke of rumors of duergars reported in the area and ran into an adventurer named Sylena. The enlarged group then ran into the rumored duergers, and after much fierce combat and yells of "For Kraak Helzak" destroyed them with the Amnian soldiers' aid. The Amnian squad then said farewell and made their way to the Amnian citadel in the south. The dwarves vowed to follow south soon as well, heading instead to Athkatla on business in the capitol city of Amn. As they were about to leave, Sylena parted north, but was assaulted by powerful frost giant magi and necromancers, chieftan, warrior, and beserker and fled back to the safety of the dwarves. The four barely survived and were all knocked unconscious bloodied and bruised.

When they awoke, the dwarf Revenark had a letter of warning from one giant to not challenge the might of the giants any further. Unfortunately for the adventurers, the group had no choice but to pass by two frost giants standing over a nearby bridge that was the only way back north to the refuge of Nashkel, as the dwarves had now chosen to abandon their journey south. At the bridge, one of the four saw a frost giant arguing with another and then when one of them went to speak with the four adventurers it was seemingly struck dead by some force and then battle ensued with the other frost giant standing at the bridge. As soon as battle had begun, multiple other giants and frost giant mystics attacked from the rear, but the battle was saved for the adventurers as another group of adventurers came to their aid including Mercury Dreskia, Sani, Corvon DeLaruce, Terri Lalani, Rilae, and Mariko Akechi.

The combined force of adventurers then ran into an Amnian squad sent to relieve in Nashkel the earlier Amnian group headed to the Citadel in the south. That Amnians were updated by the adventurers, the dwarves telling them a theory that they think the giants may be in the middle of an intraclan dispute, and then proceeded to investigate the area further as the Amnian relief squad headed to their new post in Nashkel, with the dwarves rather heading south, finally on to their business in Athkatla. The force ran into a new group of frost giants at the same bridge north as earlier, arguing over something largely not understood by the adventurers, one overhearing that the former giant clan leader was being usurped by a frost giant arcanist and necromancer that dishonored the previous clan god Auril. Next, the giants broke into battle, one killing the other in dispute and then charging up the nearby hill to engage in battle with some other group of giants.

The adventurers, hearing the noises of battle and the Amnian squad's cry of "To the Sound of Battle! For the Glory of Amn!" then assaulted the group of giants up hill and after many on both sides fell, the battle was won for Amn and the adventurers, with the Amnian squad breaking through to Nashkel and the adventurers left to their own plans.

True Netheril "Love" 3 (December 3, 2014)

((EXTRA EXTRA emphasis: If you were not in this event IC, you do not IC know any of the below information beyond what may be in rumors posts IC or what the characters involved tell you IC.))
Hidden: show
Adventurers, including a few members of the Order of the Silver Rose and their allies, took an anti-magic holding box with the gem they had previously found in a pouch inside the box as well as the ring and novel of Netheril in their possession, and decided to make way to Teo in Candlekeep from the Order of Silver Rose keep to research the items further there in conjunction. Cyrus carried the box, pouch, and gem. Gina carried the novel. Seth carried the ring. Elvina Aira-S'effaro and the Gondian Karl provided escort.

As they made their way down The Lion's Way, under the protection of sanctuary, the group witnessed a large thunder cloud and thunderstorm brew overhead and was then waylaid by a mob of mad crazy magi of Talos blocking the way to Candlekeep. The mob of magi, seemingly having true seeing and/or some other means of thwarting the adventurers in sanctuary, spoke of general destruction and doom as well as Talos and demanded the ring and gem in the possession of the adventurers, implying that on the other side of a portal that the magi had opened, they held 80 farmers hostage near Baldur's Gate and would annihilate them all if the adventurers did not give the magi what they wanted. At some point in the two groups bickering, one of the adventurers attacked the magis without a plan beforehand and a chaotic pitched battle began, much in favor of the chaos and destruction personified magi, casting many powerful death and elemental damage spells, leaving all but a few magi dead, and all of the adventurers grievously wounded and temporarily unconscious, a decent outcome for the adventurers considering that at least a dozen more magi poured out of the open portal during the battle and the adventurers had no plan against an enemy that fights best when there is no organized opponent.

The battle left the wounded, now again conscious, Seth held hostage by a magi summoned vampire warlock, with the vampire having a grappled knifehold to Seth's throat, and Elvina and Gina held by hostage by a magi with the magi's spell fingers jabbed into their backs. A standoff then ensued, with the magi making the same demands again, but adding that if the ring and gem were not handed over that Seth, Elvina, and Gina would be killed in addition to the farmers. At this time, a slew of other adventurers not yet named approached the dispute for various reasons at various time in what transpired hereafter, including Ivan, Arshes, Balthazar, Duragin, Cienne, Merek, Zeno, Karl, Hinzel, and Artorius. Earlier in the battle, the box holding the pouch and gem on the now near dead Cyrus fell out of Cyrus' possession. The box was destroyed in the chaotic spellcasting romp, leaving the pouch containing the gem to be burned to a crisp, with the exposed gem now on the open ground, lying before one of the magi, unknown so far to any of the mad mages of Talos or other adventurers. The adventurers tried to toy with the magi claiming there was no way they would ever get the gem, thinking they must have still possessed it, but then a few adventurers spotted something shiny on the ground before one of the magi, seemingly a gem in look. Elvina spoke out loud about something shiny and gem like being at one of the magi's feet, perhaps not realizing she was in speaking range to the magi or perhaps talking about some other gem than the one in dispute, as she may have not known what the item was on the ground given her distance away and line of sight. A magi near the gem, however, hearing and seeing as much, looked down and promptly grabbed the item, then dashed into the nearby portal, Merek and Cyrus narrowly missing regaining the gem for the adventurers before the magi that snatched it.

The stalemate then continued for some time, with Seth, Elvina, and Gina held as hostages and negotiations and demands repeated and stalling again and again, even as terrified and sobbing farmers were sent through the portal by the magi to try to convince in a sincere tone the adventurers to do what the magi want "or their families and spouses would be exterminated!" Seth was eventually able to remove a vial of holy water from his person and while not being able to use it on the summoned vampire holding him hostage, he was able to signal Gina to aid him with using it to break free by throwing it at Seth's head, breaking it on him and splattering the holy water on the vampire. Gina, smiling at the magi holding her up, bluffing, leaned over to Seth and fetched the vial of water from him, then took position again as a seemingly complying hostage to the magi holding her prisoner with one of his spell fingers. Most adventurers, thinking on the matter, decided to hold back attacking to try to save the hostages from annihilation. Karl did not do much thinking, however, and attempted to attack one of the magi, but was immediately struck down by a finger of death spell.

About then, Gina was able to throw the holy water at the vampire holding Seth hostage, allowing Seth to break free of the vampire and cast a sunburst spell, annihilating the vampire. Gina, acting bravely for her comrade, was then struck down unconscious by another finger of death spell of one of the magi. The magi, now furious at the assaults and escape attempt, now killed a slew of their farmer hostages, including about 40 in the portal location, witnessed through the portal by the adventurers in bloodied screams of terrified farmers emanating from the portal, as well as killing 2 of the 4 four farmers at The Lion's Way. The magi also now sent reinforcements from the other side of the portal to The Lions' Way in the form of half a dozen more mad robed mages. The magi then said that they must have the ring as well or the held hostage Elvina and all the remaining farmers would be slaughtered. Seth, still holding the ring, refused and carried Gina off in his arms to safety, leaving her a bit of a distance away. After doing so, he rejoined the battle and fell to a finger of death spell from a Talos magi, then, upon the completion of the final battle, Elvina would raise him and he would been taken back to the keep of the Order of the Silver Rose.
Gina, nursing her wounds from a distance, made sure that no Talos magi escaped any final melee and kept innocent bystanders away from the horrible engagement. Karl and Cyrus later joined them as such as the day went on. Finally, all retired to the Order of the Silver Rose Keep once their duty was lifted when Elvina rejoined them later on at the end of the prolonged struggle.

The remaining adventurers then decided to assault the magi, after multiple adventurers even inferred that doing so would mean the death of many farmers and possibly Elvina. Fortunately for Elvina, Cienne managing to stab in the back the magi holding up Elvina as the battle began, likely saving Elvina's life. Battle then escalated in earnest, as screams of farmers echoed from the portal. The portal of the magi then shut, and the magi in The Lion's Way then enthralled the two living farmers present to fight for them as another battle started, quickly leading to the slaughter of the two farmers enthralled. The magi and farmers were then all killed, save one knocked out and unconscious magi, the total of four farmers on The Lion's Way all charred beyond saving by spells of the engagement. This was at a cost of multiple fallen and injured adventurers, who were then subsequently raised and healed. Elvina then wisely thought to cast a trace teleport spell on the location of the closed portal and was able to make a teleportation rune notating that the portal had been from a location a few miles northeast of Baldur's Gate. The adventurers then debated about what to do with the unconscious Talos magi prisoner, while looting him and his dead magi brothers and sisters, only finding lint in their robe pockets and some symbols of Talos and confirming meanwhile that all the dead farmers present were burnt as ash beyond saving. Some marginally involved and not otherwise named began to leave the scene, but a few adventurers remained.

While some were able to infer that it might be helpful to interrogate the prisoner in a more favorable setting for information on the whereabouts of the gem and the plot of the robed magi, others wanted the Talos magi dead. Elvina and Ivan argued for bringing him to the Order of the Silver Rose keep to interrogate him, after Elvina initially desired to slaughter him, but others, including the dwarf Duragin and Zeno, did not trust the Order of the Silver Rose to keep the man alive once in their walls. Zeno, while this argument was underway, drew some suspicion with an odd look he gave the group after touching the magi, after which Ivan snatched the magi's body and made off with it to a nearby tree to attempt to teleport him away. It was there that the dwarf Duragin assaulted Ivan as he was about to teleport, promptly knocking out and grievously wounding the distracted Ivan, to stop him from making off with the magi, and Elvina then promptly slit the prisoner's throat, for motives of her own. Zeno then joined the battle on Duragin's side, and Cienne, Merek, and Elvina on Ivan's side, after which Duragin was quickly overwhelmed and knocked unconscious, as his dwarven friend Balthazar stood and watched the melee unfold as a neutral party. Zeno, clearly outnumbered, then fled to a nearby cliff edge of the Sword Coast, as Elvina tended to restore and heal the badly beaten and unconscious Ivan, Balthazar tended Duragin's wounds, and Cienne and Merek chased after Zeno and cornered him at the cliff's edge.

At the cliff, Zeno cast a Flaywind Blast spell at Cienne and Merek, knocking Merek down in the windstorm of the spell, but not Cienne. Cienne then attacked Zeno in a fury of blows, severely wounding him, but Zeno was able to make off before Elvina knew that Zeno had escaped from the altercation, unable to finish Zeno with an ice storm spell or a different offensive spell, as she was preoccupied tending to Ivan and by the time she knew that Zeno had fled he was far beyond the range and line of sight of any of Elvina's offensive spells. The adventurers then parted ways. The gem now in the hands of the Talos magi. The ring still in the hands of Seth. The novel in the hands of Gina. A rune to the portal location of the Talos magi near Baldur's Gate in the hands of Elvina. An executed prisoner that may or may not have held information as to the intentions of the magi and the location of the gem. A lot of poor dead farmers.

Knights of Lathander, Cecilia and Eldarian, met with The Most Radiant of Lathander, High Priest of the Song of the Morning Temple, Kelddath Ormlyr, in the the Song of the Morning Temple meeting room. They discussed current events including the recent gnome murders in Beregost, a missing tax collector named Juan and two adventurers that may have investigated him and the burning smell and accounting book found in Juan's empty home, an execution by Amn of an alleged corrupt tax collector named Pete, the assistant to the tax collector Antolina, named Angelina, and the recent assault on the Beregost barracks. Kelddath then recommended that they go to catch up with the Sheriff on their recent investigatory findings on the Antolina case, which they did.

The two knights then spoke with Sheriff de Oca, again at first about the aforementioned current events, as well as about the physical evidence they had recovered from Juan. The Sheriff summoned one of the Amnian soldiers that was at the execution of Pete that dealt with two adventurers sent to investigate Juan for tax embezzlement right after Pete's execution, as the two knights had asked the Sheriff about them. While the Sheriff and soldier chauvinistically made fun of big city women and all their make up and get ups, insulting non-Amnian female appearances in the process, as well as speaking about some wartime memories and glorious Amnian patriotism, eventually the soldier revealed that one of the two adventurers that was sent to investigate Juan wore a blue robe and had black hair and was rather pretty. The soldier leaving, the two knights then seemed to infer they knew who it might be. The Sheriff then also recommended that they run the accounting book of Juan found by someone with knowledge of bookkeeping. The two knights agreed and said that they would try to reach the ranger Alaan about what he had found regarding Angelina's out of town home. The three then parted ways at the sound of "Good Business."

Amnians Roberta, the Secretary of Lady Aura Coprith, Jose "Colonel" (nickname) Toiga, a non-devout Helmite former colonel of the Amnian military and an officer of the caravan and mercenary business of the Crymmar's Holding Company, and Gondian Liza the Carpenter, an officer, carpenter, inventor, and engineer of the carriage and harness manufacturing company Ysnomm Carriage Company, met with the Sword Coast Commercial Exchange at the Merchant's League House in Baldur's Gate with two items on the agenda after a brief prayer by Roberta to Waukeen, blessing the business of the meeting. 1) Roberta checked in on the banking business joint venture setup between Lady Aura Coprith and the Sword Coast Commercial Exchange. 2) Roberta, on behalf of a kind of reward given by Lady Coprith to the Sword Coast Commercial Exchange as a result of one of their membership standing up to Lord Vymmar, offered an additional business venture to the Exchange. On the recommendation of Lady Coprith, a minority stakeholder and influential owner in both businesses, the three proposed that the Exchange contract with the Crymmar's Holding Company and Ysnomm Carriage Company to transport a stock of new units of the new Speartop F-Series fortified (from bolt and other projectiles) carriage and harness system, manufactured by Ysnomm Carriage Company, to a buyer in Waterdeep, from the route of Nashkel on the way to Waterdeep.

Eliza, a Gondian, warned that some of the technologies in the carriage and harness system are proprietary and that attempts at corporate espionage would meet with a series of defense mechanisms that she put into the design. She also mentioned that competitors would be thrilled to steal the technology of the carriages and reverse engineer them if possible. The Colonel said that he needed aid in recruiting mercenaries of a non-ideological and more secular variety and whom respond well to orders to cover the route from Nashkel on the way to Waterdeep as most of his mercenaries were currently preoccupied with guarding caravans in the south of Amn, closer to Amn's troubled border with war-torn Tethyr. After some negotiation, the Exchange agreed to provide recruitment, marketing, organization, and training regarding mercenaries for the aforementioned route, in return for the Crymmar's Holding Company paying wages of 2000-3000 Danters for each mercenary involved, depending on performance as well as allowing the Exchange use of one of the new carriage models, at Eliza's discretion, and reduced caravan rates if the Exchange uses Crymmar's Holding Company as its caravan service. The group then parted ways at the sound of "Good Business" and one final prayer to Waukeen, the Amnians briefing lounging at a local inn before heading back to Athkatla by ship.

Mercy Shown for Duty Sworn and Duty Forgone (December 10, 2014)

On the 10th day of Nightal, after communicating her intent to defect in a letter to the Dukes of Baldur's Gate tendays earlier, Telia approached the Eastern District gate entrance of Baldur's Gate with a willing companion by the name of Ameris Santraeger and offered herself to the charge of the Flaming Fist as a letter from the Flaming Fist sent in response to her own had required. After announcing herself and her purpose to the gate-posted Flaming Fist soldiers, clicking crossbow bolts on the battlements before her were aimed squarely at her head and heart and multiple Flaming Fist soldiers gagged her mouth and bound her wrists and tied her thumbs. Ameris was also bound by his wrists as he asked to accompany her and was able to persuade the officer in charge of the immediate detention as such by diplomatically dropping that he was of the Ilmater church in the area and persuading the soldiers that he had a decent reputation for not causing trouble.

The soldiers then escorted Telia and Ameris to the Flaming Fist headquarters citadel. Upon arrival, they briefly distracted Captain Norton from leading some impressive martial drills of Flaming Fist soldiers to attend to their care. Ameris presented their purpose to Norton after a Flaming Fist officer escorting the two did so first. Captain Norton was condescending and especially hostile to the two and initially was reluctant to allow Ameris to accompany Telia into the citadel until he diplomatically persuaded Norton to see at least Ameris in a bit better light. Norton, becoming a bit less hostile, then allowed Ameris to enter the citadel with Telia to meet with the Flaming Fist along the lines of the communications previously sent by Telia and the Flaming Fist. The two were then taken in to be debriefed by Duke Eltan's arcanist advisor, Moruene, guarded by a slew of heavily armed Flaming Fist soldiers. Beforehand, the two briefly ran into Duke Eltan's close companion, Scar, who seemed to be rather unhappy and disgusted with Telia, calling her Zhentarim scum and making a scary mad and intimidating scowl at her point blank before leaving the room, perhaps for tactical reasons or perhaps because he did not like that Telia was even getting a chance to meet with the Flaming Fist along the lines of her letter at all.

Brief introductions were then exchanged between Moruene, Telia, and Ameris, after Telia was first ungagged. After introducing her title and position with the Flaming Fist, Moruene, reacted neutrally to Ameris' express friendly support for Telia turning herself in and Ameris' personal affiliation with the Ilmater church and another organization, but did discern that Ameris deeply cared for Telia. Moruene then began her debriefing in earnest.

Moruene asked why Telia defected and keenly studying Telia's motives and sincerity in her answers. Moruene additionally asked about Telia's religious beliefs and about her alleged intelligence information as proposed in Telia's letter to the Dukes to be exchanged for admittance to Baldur's Gate and no trouble with the Duchal authorities, a letter which Moruene claimed to have read. Telia then replied with various intelligence offerings as promised in Telia's letter to the Dukes. Telia's reply was ultimately received as sincere by Moruene, after the arcanist studied Telia's responses closely.

Moruene, considering the intelligence information provided by Telia and carefully studying Telia's demeanor and sincerity and seeing Telia as acting and speaking truthfully thus far, then asked if Telia would be willing to provide intelligence to the Dukes and their agents on matters of interest going forward, to which Telia agreed. Moruene then asked again what Telia wanted, Telia implying admittance and a pardon for her Zhentarim service in Moruene's judgement based on Telia's earlier letter and her statements at the citadel. Moruene, knowing that there was not any known crime against Baldur's Gate laws that Telia had committed, saw a pardon and admittance as a meaningless gift given for possible useful intelligence services rendered to the Dukes. Taking this reasoning into account, Moruene told Telia her terms for admittance to the city and for a pardon. Telia would be required to swear an absolute loyalty oath to the Dukes and their interests on the gods and Telia's alleged personal deity of choice, Mystra, in particular. Telia would be required to swear on the same divine powers an oath of disloyalty to the Zhentarim. Telia would then additionally need to swear to provide the Dukes and their agents intelligence going forward in addition to what was already shared.

Telia agreed to the terms and swore the required oaths.

As a result, Telia was unbound, and her thumb's untied, and Ameris unbound as well, and Telia told verbally and given a document saying the following:

"In exchange for oaths of loyalty, fealty, and obedience to the Dukes of Baldur's Gate; oaths of disloyalty to her former Zhentarim masters; and an intelligence sharing agreement with Duchal officials, Telia Navra is hereby permitted admittance into the walls, city, and environs of Baldur's Gate and is fully pardoned for her actions related to her service in the foul Zhentarim.

Signed:

Moruene of the Flaming Fist Mercenary Company
Advisor to Duke Eltan"

Moruene then pulled Telia aside and offered some personal advice regarding her friend Ameris. Moruene told Telia that Ameris clearly took significant risk and care in escorting her to this meeting and so that it was a matter of her personal honor and commitment to him as well that was at stake in her future sworn obligations.

Moruene then dismissed the two and said they were free to leave the citadel, which they promptly did, leaving the Flaming Fist compound at the sounds of disciplined drilling Flaming Fist soldiers not even paying them attention as they left.

An Amnian Caravan (December 27, 2014) (Level 10 and lower event only.)

A call went out from the Amnian authorities in Beregost for less experienced, and less expensive, adventurers to assist Amn with a wagon shipment to Nashkel. Three new adventurers in the region responded to the public request: Wyn'caellia, Alia Cassius, and the gnome Perubo Samwir, all foreigners to Amn and its customs. The human Amnians after brief Amnian introductions of "Good Business" initially showed total disdain and disappointment with the adventurers being northern kobolds not of Amn, especially for Wyn'caellia seemingly being elven, a race that many human Amnians reserve a special disgust for. Eventually, the Amnians realized this was it for the help being offered and explained the task at hand.

The Amnians, made up of a caravan boss, an Amnian clerk, and two Amnian soldiers of the Beregost garrison, explained that the wagon was to go to Nashkel with valuable Amnian government property and that the cargo and wagon should not be opened and that the seal on the wagon would indicate if it was. The caravan boss explained that the adventurers would be "meat-fodd... I mean guards" for the caravan against any dangers involved, with the two soldiers never leaving a post at the side of the wagon. The soldiers mentioned that dangers on the route included xvarts to the west that rarely come to the road, but to otherwise be ready for anything.

The adventurers were offered 500 danters each upon successful completion of the wagon arriving in Nashkel. The Amnian clerk, not going with the wagon, then explained that her family and her are avid gem collectors, so if any amethysts were found on the side of the road, to bring them to her for a reward. The caravan boss added that the clerk's family was in a significant Amnian jewelry business in Crimmor, so it was natural that she had such a hobby. The caravan boss finally explained that she was of the Crymmar's Holding Company of mercenaries and caravan operations, so if the adventurers did well that they might be offered similar escort work again in the future. At this, the caravan boss, the two soldiers, the wagon, the wagon horse, and the adventurers departed for Nashkel.

A while south of Beregost, most of the way down the Trade Way to Nashkel from Beregost, the wagon stopped as it reached a potential danger zone and the soldiers and the Amnians ordered the adventurers to scout ahead for any trouble, while the caravan boss rested the wagon horse and fed it.

The adventurers did so and scouted a ways south down the Trade Way to Nashkel, eventually some of them spotting and hearing a few humanoid appearing figures in a conversation to the south west of them near the cliffs east of the Trade Way. Some of the three heard the humanoid figures mention the word "kill" and then the three decided to sneak closer using rocks, the tree line, and the ridge of the cliffs as cover. One of the three stepped on a twig rather loud and the humanoids then glanced in her direction exclaiming "wh' that?" Fortunately for the three adventurers, they successfully remained hidden after the mistake, and the humanoids returned to their conversation. The gnome Perubo then continued to sneak closer at an aggressive pace and without trying to peacefully initiate the humanoids, bravely or foolishly, charged them and tossed a flask of acid at the group, as he did so giving up his position and being shot dead by an arrow fired from the vicinity. The flask of acid seemingly did end up killing the group of humanoids seen earlier, whether they were hostile in intention or not, and Alia now charged the scene to aid the fallen gnome Perubo, while Wyn attempted to deal with what she suspected was a sniper that shot Perubo dead. It was now clear to both that they were dealing with hobgoblins. Alia, attending to the dead Perubo, was then shot in the leg by the now clearly sniper Hobgoblin and winced in pain, falling to the ground. Wyn attempted to sneak and outflank the hobgoblin sniper from cover, narrowly missing being shot in the head by one of its arrows as well. Wyn then engaged in a fire from cover archery stand off with the hobgoblin sniper, hitting it a few times, with grunts of pain from the creature in response, and dodging the hobgoblin's counterattacks. The hobgoblin, once seriously wounded, emerged from cover with oddly blue skin and then started to run toward Alia with its bow exchanged for a sword weapon. Alia, still lying on the ground in pain, managed to get up and then stab the hobgoblin running near her in the torso, which in conjunction from another arrow from Wyn ended the creature's life. The dying hobgoblin then dropped two amethysts as it fell. The two searched the area and found hobgoblin tracks coming from the south and then petering off and Alia additionally found 5 gold pieces off a dead hobgoblin and looted it for herself.

The Amnian wagon now caught up to the scene and the Amnians asked what happened. The two living adventurers explained the battle that had ensued and called Perubo a hero for taking out half a dozen hobgoblins at the cost of his life. The Amnians congratulated the adventurers on their victory and reasoned that perhaps they were at least silver or gold after all. The caravan boss offered the two possible future employment and to check in with the Crymmar's job offerings at a a posting at Feldpost's Rising Phoenix Inn in Beregost. The caravan boss, seemingly amenable to the adventurer's success and pleasant and cooperative attitude also mentioned that the cargo was in fact a tenday shipment of Amnian tax receipts from the home, tarrif, and merchant stall taxes of Beregost to Nashkel, then on to Athkatla and that for whatever reason the caravan seemed lighter than the previous tenday shipment judging by the depression of the caravan wheels in the Trade Way dirt road. The boss added that the adventurers may want to report this to the sheriff in Beregost as he had recently been investigating tax collecting in the town. The caravan boss then gave the adventurers due payment of 500 danters each, with a lesser amount of 250 danters given for Perubo as he had fallen before the task was successful, and her and the two Amnian soldiers and the wagon and horse safely entered the nearby Nashkel after mentioning that their gnome companion could be raised at the Temple of the Guardian if they wished.

The adventurers then returned north to Beregost to raise their gnome comrade at the Song of the Morning Temple for 500 danters and to return two amethysts found on the dead blue hobgoblin for a 50 danter reward each from the Amnian clerk.

Necromantic Thugs (December 30, 2014)

Three adventurers happen to overhear some chattering bandits at an underground boat launch near the lair of the lizardmen in the Cloud Peak Mountains. The adventurers approach them and are quickly overwhelmed by the daggers and crossbow bolts of the bandits. Two of them, Mercury and Corvon, are quickly killed by the bandits. In combat, some of the bandits flea to call for help down the underground river as other bandits mention protecting their nefarious commander. Meanwhile, the other living adventurer, Terri, is able to escape into the shadows and make it to safety in another nearby cavern away from the melee, where she quietly recuperates from the battle and is eventually able to distract a bandit away from Mercury's body to grab his corpse and raise him. As the two recover together and prepare to rescue Corvon's body, Terri overhears a dark and terrifying chanting and hymn in the other room, haunting her ears and growing louder and louder still. Needing to concentrate a moment to overcome the unsettling noise, the two then prepare themselves for a counterattack and to rescue their comrade Corvon's corpse. Upon returning, Terri and Mercury see a flock of ghouls where dead bandits they killed had lied after the previous skirmish as well as a necromancer bandit conducting some sort of dark ritual on their friend Corvon's body. The necromancer's ritual is stopped just in time, so it seems, as the two kill his bandit escorts and then dispatch of the necromancer as well. They raise Corvon, who upon returning to the living feels as if he was close to a more permanent end. The group then searches the area and finds a skull and blood mark on the dead bandit necromancer's robes. They then head outside of the lizardmen caves, after running into their friend, Sylena. Exiting the caves, the adventurers run into some paladins of the Order of the Radiant Heart in Athkatla, apparently looking for the same necromancer bandit group that the adventurers had just run into, the paladin claiming they had been turning innocent victims into ghouls for years. The commander of the paladins thanks Terri for showing them proof that some of the bandits had already been dispatched, then she orders her comrades to enter the caves to take care of any remnants of the necromancing bandit group. The adventurers then head on their way.
