Best weapon

Unread post by Zanniej »

I'm trying to decide on a weapon focus, and am now deciding between dwarven waraxe or warhammer. But that left me wondering:
Some creatures have damage resistance to slashing/piercing. But are there any creatures who have resistance to bludgeoning?

Edited the post to fit the current discussion more ;-)

Bludgeon physical damage is hands down the top damage to have on the server. If you wanted to wield a morning star then you get bludgeon and piercing and would only be hampered by slashing DR.

Thanks for the advice! I'm not sure whether a morning star would fit my RP though.

Skeletons have DR against pierc and slash, but consider this: dwarven waraxes do +1 more damage on average than the warhammer. The vast majority of enemies you face won't be skeletons.

Lol, I noticed as much ;-)

But he doesn't help me make a choice
I'll just check what weapon looks better :D

I personally love the look of a bloody scimitar or a teethed falchion!

Also realize that weapons that perform "best" are highly coveted, which means much harder to acquire except by way of good RIG luck.

I agree that bludgeoning weapons are best overall, but the Daxe does outperform most all other weapon models.

As a viking, I of course gravitate towards axes.

But the warhammer is likely better. Karond makes a point of the +1 damage on average, and it is a fair point. However there are more than just skeletons that have resistance piercing and slashing. Lizards in Amn have a 33% immunity to slashing, for instance.

I would choose what weapon you like the most for RP, though. Maybe steve's point about appearance is a good one. Take a look at the various dwarven axes and warhammers and see if you like the appearances?

Agreed, but not for a dwarf ;-)

Well then you got to change your character's race!

I suggest you pick an elf, then suicide him/her, then create a human. *Nodsnods* :D

That sounds like flawed logic... but then again, the elf part explains that ;-)
You don't change a dwarf to an elf!

I thought it was 25% physical?

Anyway, unless you're a spellcaster you'll likely aim for a greater/epic storm (warhammer, +3/+4 enchantment, D4 electrical, big partial electric immunity) or greater/epic razor edge (waraxe, +3/+4 enchantment, D4 piercing, D8 massive criticals). Their rarity is about the same, but I think it might be easier to get the waraxe. Warhammers are high in demand by all those FS you see running about, but there are more good versions of them (a fire warhammer similar to storm etc.).

If it's about to dwarf or not to dwarf, know that dwarves are seemingly a bit restricted. It seems they can visit one less area than others on the server, and perhaps you'll miss that area. It's called Fugue.

What is this place you speak of!? I have never heard of such a place!

Anyway, the choice fell on warhammers. There are more options in the looks of it, and they fit my character and RP more. Plus, I've already had (have, but don't really use him) a dwarf with a waraxe :D

I've come to favor the spear. It has the best animation set and good looking templates, IMO.
