The heaving grunts of a long trek finally saw fruition as Wyn'caellia crested the final slope, and Beregost loomed in the distance. Even her ally, Alia, seemed to earn a spring in her wounded step at the sight of civilization after the ludicrous lengths they'd gone through. But for Wyn'caellia, there was nothing but satisfaction. A fine kill, fine pay, and fine story all rolled into one. With nothing but intrigue to follow on.
The first stop the pair and their fallen comrade, the gnome in Wyn'caellia's arms, would see to was the temple of Lathander. The tiefling seems nervous but polite in all regards, while Wyn'caellia rather fully shares the story of their journey with the priest manning the altar.
She speaks of how the trio had been hired to protect a caravan of taxes from Beregost to Nashkel, and the foes they met along the way. How a group of hobgoblins had been found preparing a ambush possibly for anyone to happen by. But rather highly, sings praises of the gnome's valor, how the gnome 'Flew from the cover of trees like a hawk taking flight, and slung a flask of some acid at them all. They never saw it coming. Their deaths were so swift, I hardly had the time to realize what she'd done.'
She goes on to tell how surprising it was just the same, when a arrow fell their companion. The story ends briskly, Wyn'caellia assuming the priest a busy fellow, how Alia took a arrow to the leg but a combination of subterfuge and strategy won the day, and fell a foe they presume to be the ambush's leader. Both the tiefling and the wild elf leave a sum of gold with the priest to see the gnome resurrected and retired to rest off the fatal wound.
Their business not yet concluded, both tiefling and wild elf stride briskly to the town hall of Beregost. Wyn'caellia quickly putting together a report of the caravan's fate, the actions taken, and comments made to be left with the city officials as well as one more letter left privately for the town's Sheriff de Oca.
The pair politely depart afterwards for Feldpost's Inn, for a celebratory round of ale.
A wild elf, a tiefling, and a gnome walk into Beregost...
