A man in a long leather work apron appears at the docks and purchases several old but serviceable planks, gaff poles and two long thick timbers. Rounding up any that look for work he has the lot brought up beside the gallows and pays each ten coins for their service, offering more if they know any carpentry and are willing to stay.

For long hours he and the others work at the edge of the cliff with little but the sounds of building to be heard. Sawing, lashing, nailing until at last some manner of a large wooden cage on tall timbers is formed overlooking the waters far below. Looking over the edge the man nods, the tide should be good and high by the time the priestess begins.

Last of all he orders gangplanks leading up to the cage, twice the width and brace that sailors would normally use. After inspecting it he pays each man a handful of coin for his efforts and bids them on their way. He himself stays behind and climbs inside the structure, pulling on the wooden bars and knots, stomping on the floor before he seems satisfied.

So done he makes his way for the inn as the sun falls low and shadows grow deeper. The sounds of the tavern catch his ear and he stops to turn and look. Laughter catches his ear as the door opens and light springs forth, the sounds of a song being sung and a drum being beaten. The man smacks his lips and looks up the road to the inn before looking back. Another person enters the tavern and again the sounds of song and cheer are let loose for a moment before the door is closed.

"Maybe jus' one drink."

Ang steps into the tavern after what was become, a very long day. The sacrifice to Umberlee seeming went askew for only a few minutes as he explains to fellow patrons:

"Had that horse all ready when of a sudden a winged demon appears and killed 't. Summoned by a conjurer hidden behin' a wagon I'm told. The Chaplain wasn' impressed bu' we carried on, foun' 'nother horse an' done as she said. Over she went into the sea" Angs eyes meet each person near, one by one. "Down wen' the cage an' burst into flames! A sight so ya never saw, gods honest truth. An' out our Chaplain looked an' I looked after 'er. A priestess of Umberlee she is an' knew like the hells know nothin' somethin' was up. Sure as '#$%^' it was. I seen this line appear an' grow bigger by the momen'. Closer she come, a huge wave straight outta nowhere an' so fast not a one of us could even bark a warnin'. It crashed hard 'cross the dockside as ya heard tell no doubt an' dragged many folk out with it. Some come back, many din'. Tha's The Sea Bitches way an' make no doubt 'f it. Sure as I drink 'ere an' now wi' you, she'd jus' as well drag those away dun' respec' her, see? An' that was that."

"After that we followed this magic trail t' a place north o' Baldurs Gate, The Field o' the Dead. The place where the conjurer bastard an' 'is boyfriend went." Ang pauses and gets a refill of his whiskey. He sips it slow for a moment, savouring it before downing the whole in one go. He then looks around to those gathered before speaking low and smoothly.

"High an' round was the place with a grate an' portcullis. No way t' get in save 'f we 'ad a ram or otherwise. I know, I tried m'self t' get 'er open. No dice. Bu' others sought a parlay an' got 't. We 'ad foun' the place a'right! Some scared gal with a fellas voice come from the other side claimin' at firs' knowin' nothin'. Claimed 'e could'n' even open the gates an' let us in for a little talky talk. Lyin'? Hell yea, he was lyin', sure as 'is mother done for a thousan' sailors on leave!" the man laughs loudly at this and looks to the bartender. "A roun' of drinks on me. Whiskey one an' whiskey each. If I fin' it watered I'll drown ya in ya own keg! An' I'll be pleased if ya try an' say no!"

The man produces gold coins by the handful and drops it on the bar. As they get served he continues.

"The Coven they're called. The Coven o' Darkness. Yea, ya 'eard rightly. Kinna name a child'd come up with. You oughta 'eard 'em. Even claimed they killed the one tha' caused the trouble. Not a one of us fell for 't. This magus, the one scried 'em b'fore, led us to 'em, 'e led us away in the after, hopin' t' get right inside their hideout. The deal din' work. Bu' we met this knight 'long the way....Wilhelm was the name. Man outta Cormyr an' a man out for vengeance 'gainst the very folk we'd been huntin'..."

"Now...won' say we din' make our point to these skinny gals held up in the fields. The magician with us, 'e called flamin' boulders, the likes o' which ya never seen, straight outta the sky an' all over the buildin'. The roof din' cave in but sure as hell they felt it" he laughs. "An' they'll feel more before the end too."

"At one point a fella appeared an' spoke but disappeared just as fast. can't say why, he never said. Fearful's my bet an' smart. He'd no frien's 'mong us. This knight, Wilhelm, he claimed 'e was gonna make a parlay with Eltan, a Duke of the Gate. Gonna raise a group to bring the whole place down. If he does, I'll be there. No idea what come of 't all. After some hours passed I made my leave as did many. I know some stayed though. If ya hear word, lemme know. I bet they're still holed up with their skirts 'tween their skinny knees!"

The rowboat reached the DragonWing, shrouded in the thick morning fog.
A single male, presumed by most who'd seen him to be a sailor, climbed the ship's
ladder. A silhouette could be seen, likely the Captain's, came to greet him.
Whispered words were spoken.
A bag exchanged hands. A small box exchanged hands.
And so he departed...

*Rachel had been a maid once to a gentle family of merchants in Baldur's Gate. But trades go up and down and when the families luck ran afoul of the fall of Triel, Rachel lost her position and her livelihood. For a year now she had been in Roaringshore and though the pirate town had little use for maids her youth and beauty found her alternative income. She was happy in her way.

Night was the best time in terms of business but brought dangers too, however, her thin bladed knife had seen her through a few unpleasant incidents. When the cowled figure approached her through the mists one night though her senses screamed at her to run and hide. She fought down that fear though and gripping the handle through her skirts turned to face the figure.

"Need some company?" she asked.

The cowled figure did not respond but moved fluidly toward her and then past. Rachel turned her head to follow him as he passed by so close she could smell the heavy scent rotting, cursed flesh from under his robes. She didn't see the hand dart out and strike the spot under her ear but felt herself swoon as the black of unconsciousness swept across her vision.

Later that evening, in a darkened cell, two cowled figures kneel beside an altar. A silver dagger, etched with symbol of Bhaal, rests upon a blood red velvet pillow. Rachel lies upon the altar itself.

"Master, we ask you hear our words this night. May the blood offered to you this night soothe your eternal thirst. May the soul offered to you this night feed your eternal hunger. We ask you guide us in our efforts to come..."

One figure reaches for the dagger as the other continues the intonement to their Master. The night passes very slowly for Rachel once she is woken.

Those boarding the DragonWing from the RoaringShore soon learn
that the crew is temporarily forbidding passage to the Baldurs Gate harbor
due to the quarantine in the Gate's dockward.

Some may also note supplies being brought into the ship's belly,
as the ship prepares for an upcoming excursion.

*High Captain Ambrosio left the Broken Goblet, returning to his ship accompanied by the nervous kow-towing of the Roaringshore residents and a small number of armed guards. He seemed to be in a good mood, waving and smiling to those he passed.

As he reached the harbour-side itself, instead of returning directly to his ship he marched along a pier and took up station at the end. He then produced his spy-glass and trained it upon the waters of the harbour, scanning carefully over the gentle waves. With a loud guffaw he laughed long and loud, slapping his armed crewmen on the shoulders and shaking his head with merriment... then returned to The Black Stag, and his quarters.

A few curious residents of the 'Shore ventured down the pier to see what had amused the Captain so much. Searching either with eyes long used to crow's nest duty, or with glasses of their own, they spied the source of the High Captain's humour.

Five buoys bobbed on top of the waves and affixed to the top of each was a severed head...*

The Master fed well this day.

The sounds of cheer and merriment rose from the
DragonWing as she sat just off shore. The even beat of a maritime drum unmistakable as
the crew ran drills and enjoyed a night of food, festivities and fights!

A very weary and road worn traveller slowly pushes himself off the back of a newly arrived wagon out of Soubar. He waves off the man driving and tells him he's done as asked.

Slow of step, the rather brawny fellow known to many as Ang, the first mate of the privateer, The DragonWing makes his way to The Broken Goblet. He gives little heed to the guards as they warn him...as always of bad behaviour and its implications. Inside he squints, scanning the room before making his way to Captain Pike at the bar.

"Gimme two bottles 'f whiskey an' gimme a bottle 'f wine, Captain. Thanks."

He makes for a table, back against the wall. Quill, ink and paper are produced as he pens. One is to be announced, the other is sent to his ship...

"Be it known, this day, the ship named The DragonWing no longer traverses to the harbour of Baldurs Gate. The privateer is docked and her crew savvy of the seas. So are the words of her Captain, Desrah Asher.

First Mate of The DragonWing,
Ang."

A tall, broad shouldered bearded man with blackened red hide plate and a maille hauberk seen wandering from tavern to tavern in the Roaringshore. He has a dour look on his face and a serious glare given freely to any he crosses. As he moves along, he questions various patrons and staff is they've seen any arrivals from the Moonshae Isles recently, easing tongues with gold when needed.

It was an unusual treat to see the DragonWing pull so near to shore.
For hours workers on smaller ships ferried cargo to the docks, which was then carried to the Grotto.
Rumor began to spread. Some whispered of a delivery having been made to the ship from a Waterdavian
vessel. Others speculated that the crew had just returned from a profitable endeavor. Other
still claimed to have caught whisper about an upcoming public feast within the mysterious
Grotto. None seemed sure which rumors was founded in truth, and which were simply locals with
nothing better to do than speculate..What all seemed sure of, was that this was, thus far, unusual
activity for the DragonWing, and an interesting break from the norm'...

The OOC:
Festivities will begin on Sunday at 1600 hours and will go on until RP dictates. (Likely until things begin to die down).
The Grotto is located in the northern end of the docks in the RoaringShore in the cave entrance.

In the early morning hours, the harbor sprang to life as the DragonWing docked.
A rare sight for the ship that most oft remained anchored some three knots out from shore.
Crates and barrels of food and supplies were carried aboard.
The crew's mood lifted and their pace steady.

Shortly after a public call was sent out as they sought hands for hire.
The DragonWing was to head North to fetch healing supplies for the still suffering
Baldurs Gate Harbor. A voyage funded in full by the Captain herself..
Several answered the call, as departure time grew near.

A few locals gathered along the cliffside to watch as the ship sailed off into the distance.
A sight they'd not seen but a few times as the harbor's newest vessel ran test runs,
preparing for this day..

Image

It was by the Queen's will that the DragonWing's voyage near to Waterdavian
waters and back was without incident. As she neared the Gate's harbor the steady sound of
drumming could be heard from her deck. Docking, the crew was split in two. Half escorted
the forty nine crates of healing supplies to the Temple of Ilmater, leaving it there for their
High Priest, Ameris.. The rest remained behind to guard the ship, following rumors of riots in the quarantined harbor.

Once the shipment had been delivered the majestic DragonWing made her way home...
The night was filled with the sounds of merriment coming from the DragonWing's Grotto.

Kheeldriver emergency relief force

*frantic scribbled notes start appearing all over the coast*

The undead force outside of Kheeldriver is expected to reach the village of Kheeldriver tommorrow!. I will be forming up a relief force of whoever is willing to fight for the town. We will teleport north from the Boarsky bridge in the morning. You can expect bad odds, and most likely we will be defending walls.

Initial scouting reports indicate the attacking force will consist of large numbers of mindless undead, zombies, skeletons, and large golems. There is a heavy taint of plague in its wake.

Sani

ps: You may have had disagreements in the past with me. I am willing to overlook those and work with you in order to save this town. I do not care who you are, if you are willing to try and stop the undead, your welcome. However, no summoning undead, demons, or turning into demons etc. Use your common sense on what skills you have that we will not be forced to react negatively to.

((( event is 15 GMT, 10 AM CST, Saturday 4/18
