1200 DR, Founding

The Balderden Clanhold was founded in the year 1200 DR, in the mountains northeasterly of Mirabar, just north of the lurkwood forest. The hold was located on the southern side of the spine of the mountains. The small clanhold specialized in mining and stonework.
The mining community was mostly made up of ex-mirabar miners that grew dis-heartened by the mixing of the dwarven and surface races. Feeling persisted that the constant scheming by the longlegged races was eating away at dwarven culture and values that was once prevalent in Mirabar.
The Clanhold did mostly trade with dwarven contacts located in Mirabar, shipments of ore, percious gems, and stonework were floated down, or sent by caravan to Mirabar. Since the clanhold was located far from the city of Mirabar more undiscovered and unclaimmned right to previous gems were available.Life seem pleasant and consistent within the Balderden Clanhold for the next 200 years, life went on in the normal dwarven way until....

The dwarves and humans of mirabar started to refuse or impose heavy taxes on the balderden clan goods. Trade fell sharply, and the clanhold suffered greatly. Food that the balderden's relied on were no long being supplied.
Relationships were strain with mirabar and the clanhold started to become more and more isolated from the outside world. As the main supplier of weapons from mirabar were halted. The dwarves of clan Balderden were hard pressed. The orcs of the spine, were watching and waiting...

Trade with Mirabar halted all together, starvation and famine was becoming prevalent within the hold. The dwarves of baladerden under the banner of now chieftain Rhem began to devise a counter attack to end the orcs once and for all.
Dwarven scouts were sent out to find the location of Grimiligish encampment. After a few years the information was gathered and discussed in great detail. The war plans were set, and the dwarves prepared an all out assault.
60 dwarves set out from the balderden clanhold, The march was long and hard to the orc encampment. When the dwarves arrived, the were met with fierce resistance from the orcish horde.
The battle lasted for 6 days and when the smoke cleared 40 dwarves remained alive. Though they were victorious the death of so many dwarves left the balderdens weakened and demoralised. The orcs were slaughtered, their numbers unknown.

1330 DR, The Great Betrayal
Unknown to the Balderden's their victory over the orcish encampment was small. The encampment was just one of the many encampments of clan Grimiligish. The Horde leader now turned his full gaze on to the small clanhold and decided that enough was enough it was time to remove the bladerden's once and for all. He would send the full fury of the orcs against the dwarves, but before that he would have to acquire the weaponry for such a task.
