The reclusive wizard of the High Hedge Estates has recently aligned his research and personal zodiac position in a way which has allowed him preferential facility in accessing the outer planes. In taking advantage of this temporary opportunity to glimpse into the planes, he has taken to hiring 'research assistance' (read, guinea pigs) to aid him in his research. Of course he takes great care to avoid peering into dark and dangerous planes such as Baator or the Abyss (blows on the dice for luck).
He eagerly awaits any 'returning' research parties to take down testimonials of their experiences.
