Background:

Tabetha was born in Amn. Her father was a member of the Shining Hand monastic order and her mother was a seamstress. At a young age her father's order detected the celestial blood that had awakened in her and began to groom her for a life in the order; however, Tabetha showed only minimal interest in their teachings and marginal martial skill. When she fell in love with a farmer's son, Henry Webb, her father agreed to release her from the order. Henry and her purchased a small farm of their own in the Umar Hills.

Only a short while later Tabetha gave birth to her son, Timothy. She was relieved to find that the celestial blood which defined her childhood laid dormant in her son. She wanted him to live a simple and peaceful life, and together the three of them did for many years. Timothy grew up to wed the daughter of a merchant based out of Athkatla and moved to the city to work for his father-in-law. Only a year later, Tabetha received news of the birth of her grandson, Aldin.

Tabetha and Henry made plans to visit the city and their grandson after the season's harvest, but before the season's end, Aldin came to them with a unsavory looking man delivering dire news. The father-in-law's merchant company apparently had some unfortunate dealings with the Shadow Thieves and Timothy and his wife became casualties of their falling out. The man was a member of the Shadow Thieves, but could not bring himself to harm the newborn child and agreed to deliver the baby to his grandparents as a last request. Tabetha was devastated by the death of her son, but allowed the man to go in peace as gratitude for sparing her grandson.

Tabetha and Henry took in Aldin and tried to give him a peaceful life, but as Aldin grew, he exhibited traits of celestial blood even more so than Tabetha. While Tabetha's celestial traits were subtle and unnoticeable to most, Aldin's were readily apparent. This led to him gaining an almost mythical status among the local community who saw him as blessed by the gods or even part divine himself. Tabetha tried her best to keep the boy grounded, but he quickly developed an inflated sense of purpose and self. When he turned 18, he claimed he was destined to become a great dragon slayer and left the farm, leaving behind only a note with a promise to write.

With no way to find him, Tabetha had little choice but to wait for the letters to come. And they did; every few months a messenger would arrive with a letter detailing Aldin's adventures over that time. For the most part he was working simple jobs far enough away from danger; unloading ships or serving as a courier. Occasionally he'd find work guarding a merchant, but Tabetha was simply content that she had heard no more talk of dragons. That was until he heard the stories of Tiamat's rebirth and the dragons that appeared around Baldur's Gate a few years past. His last letter detailed plans to travel to the city and at last find a dragon to hunt.

Tabetha received that letter over a year ago. She worries that her grandson finally found the trouble he'd been seeking. Unable to wait for news any longer, she sets out for Baldur's Gate herself to find her grandson and bring him back home.

Goals: To find her grandson or what happened to him.

Possible Plot-Hook Ideas and Misc Facts:

Trained as a monk, Tabetha is more than proficient in hand to hand combat; however, concerned that her aging body can no longer handle the impact of unarmed strikes, she prefers to fight with a quarterstaff.
