First Name:
Khudrû
Last Name:
Targu'Khagal
Nickname
Targu'Khagal literally translates to 'Beard of Blue' in some ancient and seldom used (or known) Dwarven dialect. Thus his official clan's name would be Targu'Khagal, but it is often colloquialised to the common dialect; Bluebeard. Being one of the last surviving members of this clan, he himself is mostly referred to simply as Bluebeard.
Appearance:
Race:
(at least part Shield-)Dwarf
Age:
His year of birth is long forgotten to all but himself, presumably born around the turn of the 12th century (1100DR).
Height
4’10 (Relatively tall for a dwarf.)
Weight:
210lbs (The weight can most likely be attributed to his excessive height as well as a few too many nights in the tavern. Possesses a stockiness somewhat atypical to his Dwarven heritage, although very solid, much more wiry than your average dwarf. Most of his girth, in fact, is tucked under his belt in his mid-section, and he's not barrel chested like many Dwarves. Still possesses excessive strength from a life of hardship and labour.)
Eyes:
Grey (Always sparkling with a hue of very light, piercing blue.)
Hair:
Greyish Blue, typical straggly dwarven style.
Facial Hair Style:
Long plaited beard & moustache.
Personality Profile:
General Health:
http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lxb40 ... o1_500.gif
Deity:
Devout believer and follower of the Morndinsamman, mainly calls out to Clanggedin for strength in battle. Occasionally cusses out 'Moradin's Beard' or 'Moradin's Hammer' which he always vows to rectify with his God in his next battle with the payment of his enemies' blood.
Initial Alignment:
Approaches life somewhat cynically and is often considered gruff and short-tempered (what dwarf isn't?) however his intense loyalty to his friends and allies and his hatred for things unnatural and evil, specifically Drow, paint him as a Neutral Good character.
Profession:
A retired blacksmith, a liberated slave and a decorated dwarven hero. An heir to Dwarven Royalty although his clan has dwindled too much to claim his title.
Base Class & Proposed Development:
Bluebeard was raised a nomad dwarf in his migratory clan, training in the stout arts of his people. As such, he can wield the weapons and armour he produces as well as any other warrior. (Fighter/Weapon master, may deviate with RP ((and a better understanding of NWN2).)
Habits/Hobbies:
Once upon a time, as are most Dwarves, he was a very proficient smith. He only smiths out of necessity now, though, for either self-repairs or a quick coin or two.
Enjoys, above all else, a quiet lake side day in the warm sun fishing, denying his subterranean heritage.
Fears, above all else, the dark as well as enclosed spaces, ashamed of calling himself a Dwarf for this very reason.
Always has one eye over his shoulder for something hunting him for seldom known past transgressions. It is unknown whether he is hunted by previous captors, assassins or bounty hunters, or even the law.
Calls on Moradin in battle, or his clan's battle cry; Khagal'Karzur. It's meaning is known to Bluebeard, but few others. The same saying is said to rejoice in victory.
Languages:
Common, Dwarven, hints at some knowledge of Orcish, secret basic understanding of Deep Speech, although he shudders at the very sound of it, especially when drawn from his own lips.
A specialty of his is an ancient Dwarven dialect; even he doesn't know its origins and can only speak phrases. His name as clan name is derived from this language, as well as the Khagal sigil and even one of his frequently used battlecries. His weapon’s name was also loosely derived from the language. It is possible that his clan was once prominent enough to deviate from Common Dwarven and invented their own dialect as very few are familiar with it, but these secrets are lost to the ages.
Weapon of Choice:
Without his trusty self-forged battle axe, he has had to settle for less durable and powerful weapons, although he still favours a battle axe and tower shield, with a full set of dwarven-crafted full plate mail.
Background:
He grew up around a score or more of his blue-bearded kin forced into nomadhood with the loss of their homeland, who migrated from battle camp to warzone in the lands of Narfell, travelling as far West as the borders of Anauroch. The clan worked as war smiths to the highest bidding army and such was their expertise that they rarely struggled to find work, contracts occasionally coming in from across the Sea of Stars. Rightfully the leader of the clan, in his youth and inexperience it was led by his Uncle, a decision that would see the clan disbanded and essentially defeated in a battle.
He has hinted before that he crossed the Sea at least once in his youth but it is unknown if they often crossed it for work on both sides of it.
He climaxed his craft with the production of a legendary battle axe which he named Ahakhud'Dhaer (nicknamed Gnasher), a weapon so masterfully crafted he often wondered if he would ever produce anything even close to its quality, a sensation that many Dwarves experience and some never overcome, abandoning their hammer.
His magical weapon was eventually lost to him when he was captured by his mortal enemies, the Drow.
He was enslaved by the Drow and subjected to Moradin-knows-what, until he escaped with the ultimate goal of somehow procuring his beloved axe, Ahakhud'Dhaer, an utterly hopeless cause.
Goals:
Bluebeard is a relatively simple man. He would be almost content smithing in Baldur’s Gate until his final days.
Almost.
He thirsts to sate his lust for Drowish blood & simultaneously recover his long lost axe.
He had a son, once, lost to him when he was forced into captivity. One day he hopes for a reunion but fears the worst. By the time he escaped his Black prison, the years had worn him down too much to find a trail.
Possible Plot-Hook Ideas and Misc Facts:
Clan Bluebeard originated as Lords over an ancient Dwarvish mine long lost to the world. ‘The furnace glows red and the Beards glow Blue, thus the steel rings true,’ is a roughly translated saying of the clan from their homeland. Bluebeard has always hoped to find his homeland which is long buried in ruin under distant mountains rendering his quest doomed, however he fears since his incursion to the Underdark he would not be able to set foot in the deep mines again anyway, sometimes struggling to even enter shallow caves.
Unfortunately, he possesses a deep seated insecurity of inferiority to other Dwarves for not being able to handle the depth of many Dwarven strongholds, although often blusters through to arrogance and an air of apparent superiority anyway.
Bluebeard is one of the last of his clan, dwindling even before he was thought of and even more so when he was finally born. Because of this fact and his once almost fluorescent blue beard, he is often called merely 'Bluebeard', a trait that he has more than accepted in his stride, even adopting it as his common name.
The blue of his beard and hair, his name sake, is fading to pure grey, a typical aging trait of his clan, although the blue is not fully diminished. Thus do not mistake his age for weakness; although he is not the picture of Dwarven youth, his swing has barely slowed since his fifties. It is a sentiment of the clan that until the beard is purely grey, the clansmen is as good a fighter as any other Bluebeard.
It is rumoured that young Targu'Khagal clansmen's beards shine a deeper blue than the Sea of Swords itself, a trait easily used among the Shield Brothers of the clan to identify one another.
His reasoning for his fear of tunnels, caves, confined spaces and the dark in general is not apparent to most people.
He has never shared the circumstances of his escape from the Underdark; few know he ever entered the damned place. Fewer still are privy to any details of his time there at all.
It can be supposed, however, that he went missing around 1325DR on the road North from Waterdeep and was not publically heard of again until he resurfaced looking for smithy work in Baldur's Gate early in 1351DR.
How much time of that was spent in slavery is unknown.
