Both the newcomer and the 'lurker' would no doubt notice a subtle shift of activity within the Docks recently and, despite their use of the shadows, a feeling of being intensely watched. If they had been listening to the rumors they might have surmised this to be a by-product of the recent murders that took place in the area.

A second pair of eyes, ones shrouded within a black hood and peering over a tight mask, would also curiously observe the newcomers penchant for side streets and shadow. When the newcomers 'lurker' would move to follow him, the eyes would glint and narrow, their owners lithe and shrouded form moving warily from his shadowy nest... the same he had been frequenting for days. Tongue clicking in silent disapproval at the lurkers activities, the figure would press himself to the edge of a building, arcing his hooded head skyward.

A series of hand signals is flashed towards a nearby rooftop by the shrouded figure, and a whisper passed to a tall pedestrian wearing leathers. More hand signals would be passed in the next long moments before the shrouded figure slipped of in the direction of the lurker.

Job offers are posted around the city for capable hands to help with minor construction projects, mostly renovation of the rooftop and the facades of the Thayan Enclave.

About 10 elderly men and women are hired at 1 copper the hour to polish and clean the fences, the door and the exeterior walls.

The scafolding rises high, as it reaches the roofs and a douzen children of no more than 10 years old are seen working hard under the blazing sun under the orders of a much older man. The task seems very dangerous for such unexperienced people. They recieve, though, a FAIR pay of 2 copper coins the hour.

The Enclave announces it will hire more poeple as other working opportunities are possible. Having the population working is important in this dire time of need and uncertainty!
A priest of Ilmater from the local temple - a young man of Tethyrian extraction - approaches the enclave. Perhaps he saw one of the notices, or heard a rumour from one of the patients whom attend the Temple of Ilmater.

He would spend some few minutes watching the workers about their tasks. It would soon become apparent, from his furrowed brows and beetroot red cheeks, that he is in high dudgeon.

It would take a few more minutes before he is able to ask politely (his anger thinly veiled) to speak with the Khazark at his earliest convenience. He would promise to write a letter, before stalking off back to the temple.

A letter is indeed delivered, bearing the seal of the Temple of Ilmater.

A Girl's Night Out?
Image
Rumour has it that two women had been seen making conspicuous stops in and around famous locales within Baldur's Gate. They were described as wearing dresses or robes in red and orange colour, young adults dark in hair with southern bearing. Lucky Aello's and the Seven Suns Mercantile Emporium were amongst the witnessed locations hit.

"They bought out my entire stock of blue dresses," one merchant witness working at the Seven Suns at the time would later report. "They've been sitting in our inventory for years. Never thought we'd see the day when we no longer have to look at those gaudy eye sores."

The pair was later seen exiting Zachery's Beauty Parlor, where eyewitness reports claimed they looked well groomed and quote, "extremely confident." Sources are still unclear about what set these two women in motion, but investigators claim they are working to get to the bottom of it. These events may be related to the rumours of concerned Baldurians calling upon Duke Eltan to create a new branch in the Flaming Fist Militia, dedicated to overseeing crimes against fashion.

The short one paired her bright blue nails with a maroon red dress. "They might have worked separately, but together? I didn't like it. It didn't work at all," said a concerned citizen close to the scene that night.

My ship plowed through the storm.
Looking into the waves, I grew dizzy,
for I glimpsed the chasm between myself & the infinite.

Oblivious...no... perhaps uncaring of the regular citizenry milling about the docks as the sun sets, does a figure stand in the last moments of the golden rays atop a roof of a well used warehouse. He leans, large gloved fingers gripping the edge as he gazes down at the stragglers of dockworkers. Done for the day they give farewells or in silence meander to points unknown. For some the solace of family or friends, for others no doubt, a bottle of hard drink in silence as the tallow burns low, the reek of it another mere sign of home to those that live there.

The man watches from behind a macabre iron skull mask as the padlock is snapped and checked by the foreman. Light now fades swiftly, the city going dark as lamplighters do their duty, hurrying to their task and eager to get off the streets. Robbery for those that tarry is not uncommon, nor is that knowledge. It has been uncomfortable for some which is bad enough for most and has been downright deadly for others, a fact not unlost for these men and women who dare the dark for their hours time.

The streets seem to empty but for the eyes behind the blackened skull sockets, life does continue. A small quiet foot pauses midstep as a tiny figure gazes to and fro. Crossing the street unmolested he pulls a key and unlocks a door. Opening it slowly the figure glances back and forth before signalling. The door is pulled open and several more small shapes race from shadowed hiding spots through the it. The door is pulled tight and, if one had not been there to see it, it could surely never have happened. But it was seen by one.

The large man is gone now but the door opens and is closed again so briefly. In the quiet of the warehouse are the voices of hushed children as they banter softly, even as a shadow comes closer...

*An explosion rocked the Sorcerous Sundries this evening in Baldur's Gate. A petite Elven woman in robes was seen scurrying from the tower and on to the street. She proceeded to summon the elements to keep the fire under control.

The Flaming Fist arrived to check on the situation. The study on the second floor of the Sundries was riddled with scorched marks, broken glass, and in serious need of repair. When asked if he would press charges against the woman, Drin replied that if she would pay for the damages there would be no need.*

Passers by reported seeing flames begin to billow from the upper storey of Sorcerous Sundries and a blue-robed, blonde-haired elf materialising out of no-where and tumbling onto the street. She then conjured an immense water elemental which entered the building and proceeded to extinguish the fire.

She was seen to have re-entered Sorcerous Sundries after the fire was extinguished and emerged some time later, weeping profusely and running off towards the Temple of Mystra.

A group of four of the adventurer class are seen exiting from the northern gate of the Palace District—three men, one woman, all human, or so it would seem—a right Company. Though not showing any particular nor great camaraderie amongst the whole, they seemed to show a willing spirit, as they embarked and did not look back as they past the small bridge into the farmlands.

Any regular eyes upon that particular gate would not recognize them to have returned, for a few days, and counting....

As it is with so many of their class, it would remain a momentary mystery as to whether they would return...all, or none at all.
As J.G. Ballard has said, "It's a mistake to hold back and refuse to accept one's own nature."

An Ilmateri stall was set up near the Elfsong tavern, where pamphlets were given out protesting against the Thayan Enclave's use of child labour for hazardous tasks. A petition was being signed by a number of people.

A raven haired sorceress known to many as Telia Navra was seen visiting the stall. After some time of just standing about and reading a pamphlet, the sorceress calmly walked inside the Thayan Enclave, seemingly without speaking to the priest on the stall, Ameris Santraeger.

This same priest is later seen pacing around outside the enclave, with a worried expression.

Many hours later, Ameris is met at the doors of the enclave by the Khazark Kahanak Habdilof himself. The priest is attired in armour, as if for battle. He enters the Enclave behind the Khazark after some hesitation. A few minutes later he is seen calmly carrying out a limp, lifeless body in a torn dress whose green unseeing eyes staring eerily at the sky. It would be recognisable as the sorceress Telia Navra.

The armoured priest would be seen to embrace the body as soon as he stepped across the gate in the fence surrounding the Thayan compound, burying his face into it.

An elf joined him and together they were seen walking to the Temple of Ilmater with the priest continuing to carry the body, grief more evident with every step.

At midnights apex three pairs of eyes peered from behind masks towards a candle-lit effigy.
The constant creak of the walls to echo in their secreted away sanctuary of shadows.
A lithe figure adorned entirely in black moves to humbly offer his tithe.
A murmured prayer in a whispered and muffled rasp floats out from behind his mask.
A few short moments later, a shroud of darkness seeps from the Shrine to slowly envelope the room.
The three visitors stare on in muted wonder as mystical shadows inch slowly along the walls.
The shadowy embrace then receding silently back into the Shrine.

Three pairs of eyes now lower, their mutual gaze to linger on the now vanished tithe.

The Lord of Shadows, on this night at least, seems pleased.

With the comings and goings of the Thayan Enclave and the attention draw to it, those passing by might notice the near-constant presence of a hooded figure lurking in the shadows of the vicinity; sometimes seen... often not. The truth of the matter being no recent development, brooding gray eyes often keeping attentive watch on it's activities.

In the evening Sveta returns to the temple of Ilmater to take check on the body of Telia while dressed in her full battle regalia, perhaps for appearances or more simply she has duties to attend to later. Should the Sisters present condone it, she would take a few artifacts left by Telia, most notably a rope, and a dish-pan, assuming they were still present. After spending a few minutes within the halls of the infirmary transcribing a letter for her own personal note keeping she departs first stopping by the Temple of Helm before approaching the Flaming Fist Headquarters.

There, Sveta maintaining her rigidly formal stature presents two papers to the front desk, resting her gauntleted hands behind her back in attention as she speaks.

"Hail, I, Sveta Asperan Head Watchknight of the Everwatch, stand in reporting of the torture and murder of the resident of Baldur's Gate, Telia Narva, within the Thayan Enclave. While I have no account of the legislative privileges the Enclave possess such an action cannot be condoned by the Dukes of Baldur's Gate, if not considered a direct act of war against the people of Baldur's Gate.

The first paper I present to you is a report of the state of Telia's body in which it was presented to Ameris at the Enclave. By the oaths I have sworn to the great guard I can attest to the faithfulness of the descriptions written by my own hands, however my personal opinions of the interpretation of the state of Telia's body and what occurred to her are only my professional assessments of the scene. Should it appease the Fist I could send for confirmation of the faithfulness of the report by Dawnknight Al’maire and Priestess Aeili who were both present during the examination. Telia's body is still present at the temple of Ilmater, however it has since been groomed in preparation for the ritual to see her resurrection.

The second is a written statement by Ameris Santraeger of what transpired that evening, along with notes of past history between Ameris and the Kahanak that suggest motive.

I will attempt to retrieve written statement from the lady Alika mentioned in Ameris' report."

Should the receptionist hold no questions she would half bow respectfully before departing with the final words.

"Helm's guidance."
