Template For Character Creation Reward:
First Name: Deyla
Last Name: Mist
Appearance: Tall, thin, lithe build, Deyla seems agile and fast, though she has some strength in her otherwise slim body. Her thin, orange hair is finely medium cut - though she usually hides some of it underneath a berret or a hat, which also conceals her slightly elongated ears. Her orange eyes are warm, wide, and peer around curiously. One can tell when she is cunningly plotting by the way she narrows her eyes and her lips curl into a smirk.
Deyla's slender shoulders and arms are slim, but strong. Her tall body is narrow with small curves. Her skin has an orange tinge which immolates into a soft red color when embarrassed.
When her head is uncovered (which it is not, most of the time), small reddish spots are seen on top of her forehead, indicating her Abyssal inheritance.
She is typically seen with a scimitar hanging on her belt, though she seems to prefer using words over her sword.
Deyla has always perfume on her to suppress the smell of sulfur.
Race: Tiefling (Mother, a tiefling; father, a human)
Age: 28
Height 5'9"
Weight: 106 pounds
Eyes: Orange
Hair: Orange
Facial Hair Style: n/a
Personality Profile: Deyla Mist is a fair woman who loves adventure, good company, food, and strong drinks. She seems at first insecure, but only when found off-guard. She offers a smile to everyone on a good day, to most on a fair day, and perhaps also on a bad day. She is curious, adventurous, yet also mysterious and sometimes seemingly perceiving. A friend might call her loyal and trustworthy. A foe might call her deceiving, selfish, and reckless. However, a casual, neutral observer would call her an opportunist.
General Health: Healthy.
Deity: Shaundakul
Initial Alignment: Chaotic Neutral
Profession: Sailor
Base Class & Proposed Development: Scimitar-based dexterous fighter
Habits: She has some bad habits like overeating, burping, and generally forgetting to be civilized. Also has habits of speaking her mind - even when it's not appropriate. Good habits includes politeness and a good choice of words in conversation (if that is considered a good habit, even).
Hobbies: Fishing, Drinking, Eating, Walking, Swimming, Dancing (especially in the rain).
Languages: Common, Abyssal, Draconic, Infernal (with a heavy accent)
Weapon of Choice: Scimitar
Background: Deyla Mist is a curious, polite, friendly-to-most tiefling who's had her share of adventure, yet she's far from done.
Her story really begins with her mother. An Abyssal tiefling, like Deyla, her mother Meleya Mist fell in love with a Waterdhavian man.
And Deyla was born. They lived in Waterdeep, until her mom took off without a word. Jack, Deyla's father, would raise her. But when the young tiefling was just thirteen years old, her mother returned as suddenly as she had come. Meleya took Deyla with her, allowing no arguments (not even a word) with Jack.
The next several years of Deyla's life could be explained as daring, adventurous, and chaotic. Meleya would no longer speak Common to her daughter, ensuring that Deyla would not forget their native language, Abyssal.
Together, they traveled throughout Faerûn. Deyla was still too young to understand her mother's urges to suddenly venture off to the corners of the world. And even beyond our realm . . .
Indeed, Meleya sought out her ancestors and had a taste of the Abyss along with her daughter. Deyla's knowledge of the Abyss and that world grew.
When her mother's urges had been fulfilled, they left as suddenly as they had appeared, seeking out new adventure.
Meleya consulted with a group of dragonslayers. When her curiosity was stronger than her trust (if there was any) for this group, she betrayed them, killed them all off in their sleep. She took it one step further - Meleya took off their heads and brought them to the dragon they were currently chasing.
Surprised by the rash tiefling's action, the red dragon allowed Meleya and her daughter to stay with the followers of this dragon.
And this is where Deyla picked up the Draconic tongue.
Again, Meleya had sated her hunger for adventure for now, so they left, this time with a proper farewell (as she wouldn't dare betraying a dragon or its followers)
Deyla picked up the chaotic behavior, and she got used to not staying too long in one place.
At the age of nineteen, Deyla decided to stand on her own and leave her mother. She returned to Waterdeep. Her father was starting to get sick, but he never stopped hoping for the day he'd see his daughter and wife return. At least Deyla returned, and his life was fulfilled that day Deyla found her father.
They embraced each other in a hug that seemed to last forever.
Deyla spent a few years with her father. It was a time of relief for Deyla, not having to look after her chaotic mother all the time.
However, the tiefling loved both her parents. She didn't tell her father of all the incredibly stupid things her mother had done - the old man had enough to worry about already.
One night in Waterdeep, Deyla received a note. It was from her mother and it read: "In two nights, stay ready. We're going somewhere."
Frustrated, Deyla did as her mom stated in the note, and sure enough, Meleya came for her daughter. Jack was sleeping, and when he woke up to see his home empty, he wasn't surprised nor angry. He simply smiled and nodded fondly, "Just like her mother."
This journey would change the relationship Deyla had with her mother.
Meleya's curiosity and lust for more excitement brought her to a horrible place (at least for Abyssal tieflings), The Nine Hells . . .
At first, every devil snarled at them, caused their blood temperature to be hot. But Meleya was not stupid. She had made a deal with a certain fiend who could get them in. The enraged devils could not harm them . . . much.
Despite their Abyssal blood, the devils saw great potential in the two tieflings, especially in Meleya. Deyla's mother was, at this point, obsessed with power and sincerely believed that the devils were much stronger than the demons, and thus she believed joining them would be the strongest thing to do.
Over a few years, Deyla learned to speak in the Infernal tongue, although not fluently.
This life became too much for her, so with her mother's permission, Deyla returned to the Prime. Her mother still loved and accepted her own daughter.
She wanted a more or less honest way to make her living. Meleya had ties with some sailors of the Sword Coast, sailors transporting goods, so Deyla was gladly received aboard, while Meleya returned to the Nine Hells.
This is where Deyla eventually found her true self. She loved the ocean - despite the many sea-sick days -, she loved the crew. Out in the open sea, no man or woman had any prejudice against each other. For two years did Deyla sail the waters of the Sword Coast.
When one time they ported in Waterdeep, Deyla took the chance to visit her father, who was dying now from his disease. He still loved her and her mother, and even forgave Meleya for leaving.
On this occasion, Deyla surprisingly ran into her mother that same week.
Her mother had changed. All she could talk of is how cursed her blood is. She wanted to join the eternal wars against the Abyss, and she wanted her daughter with her.
Deyla saw no reason in her mother's cause and politely refused. This angered Meleya greatly, but there was nothing she could do to convince Deyla to come - the sailor tiefling had found her place, and it was not with her mother.
Deyla and Meleya argued for a long time, and their loving bond, it seemed, was broken. From this day, Meleya held a hatred to her daughter, seeing her as a "traitor", "Abyssal spawn", and what other words she could conjure.
When those two years of sailoring had passed, Deyla decided to settle. It was the curiosity inside her that brought her to Baldur's Gate. While she had been docking in the city plenty of times, she'd never seen the actual city from inside.
Deyla took residence in Roaringshore and would stay there for some time, making friends and acquaintances, before daring out on perhaps an adventure in Baldur's Gate.
Goals: Deyla's main goal is to one day captain a ship and obtain a crew. Her lesser goals, which will alternatively aid her in attaining her main goal, include (but are not limited to): adventuring, collecting a fortune, attaining fame, learning to dance, learning to fight, learning to combine those two somehow, slaying a dragon (she really doesn't take this goal serious).
Possible Plot-Hook Ideas and Misc Facts:
- Her mother Meleya coming back for her, trying to make persuade her to come back to her. Deyla has a necklace on her (in inventory) which her mother gave her -- this could eventually be used as a magical necklace for Meleya to find Deyla.
- Old friends she used to sail with needing her help with something.
- Devils and/or others wanting to kill her for being an Abyssal-blooded.
- Paladins and other fanatics who chase demon-spawns (tieflings) could try end Deyla's life.
