The Day the Spider Came

Breaking the monotony of just another day at the docks, slowly, screams started bellowing from the alleys of the Baldur's Gate Harbor. Soon, people were seen running through the streets... followed by several giant spiders, wrecking havoc upon the harbor.

Rather quickly, several local adventurers and the stouter and surlier harbor workers started to band together, slashing, piercing, and bludgeoning the creatures to death with whatever was available. The smaller and less stout, various cats, chamber maids, wenches, and other less capable, would fall prey to the creatures. After a few hours, the Flaming Fist are sent through the streets in force to clean out remaining spiders and secure the streets. The Flaming Fist compound remains closed to any visitors for the remainder of the day.

Rumors quickly spread regarding the sudden infestation of Giant Spiders. Ranging from a remnant of the plague, to demonic worship, to some dark relic tampered with by nobles, to a punishment from the gods, to the work of foreigners...

Following the discovery of some spider nests in the cities interiors, The Flaming Fist quickly issue a bounty to local adventurers (low level parties encouraged to partake, setup till server reset (should be good until around 0:00 server time) Post your screens and stories in Elfsong... RP fights with spiders if someone cleaned them ahead of you), to scour the city and destroy any remaining spider presence.

In the north ... Scouts report a large mass moving from the rumored necropolis in the Troll Claws to the East. It is a slow moving mass, and reports state it is composed largely of slow moving mindless undead, zombies, skeletons... and large golems?

Regardless, such a slow moving hoard should be easy enough to track, by the pestilent effects upon the land it traverses.

The Pestilent March, Pt 2: To Kheldivver

Several Adventurers teleported into Kheldivver as the shambling undead hoard approached. Towering above the pestilent clouds kicked up in their wake, large adamantine golems of exotic design.

The adventurers went out to defend the outer palisades as the undead army marched through the fields, spreading disease in their wake, and felling any brave farmer or militiaman who would engage them. The adventurers held their ground at the outer gates. Wave after wave of mindless undead crashed upon them, and the destructive golems plowed through. They held for a time, but eventually had to fall back to the inner courtyard of the small mountain town.

As they fell back from the endless assault, suddenly, the undead and golems stopped advancing. They... just... stood there, motionless and silent, save the occasional twitch of zombie tendon. Half in the city, half still outside the gates, the undead and construct hoard just stood there, and waited.

As the hours passed, several adventurers started to construct makeshift barricades and siege equipment from the materials to be found in the inner courtyard (trees and local housing). Meanwhile, the hoard just stood there...

An eerie silence fell upon the town as the residence huddled within their houses or the town hall, undead waiting patiently in the streets around them. The silence only broken by the occasional hammering of siege craft from the adventurers in the square, and the sounds of terrified mothers stifling the whimpering of their children.

The Exchange, Part 10: A soul plucked from the web
A lone elf ventures into the flaming fist compound in Baldur's Gate. He leaves after a short time, clandestinely, leaving behind a look of relief among the remaining mercenaries and officers.

--------------------------------------

****note: all the following is OOC information****

In Sshamath, a traitorous acolyte of Lolth makes her play against her Yath, leaping ahead with her plans in order to steal the glory. She makes her way to the surface with a handful of guards, taking with her something of great value, in the hopes of exchanging it for a powerful artifact of her matron mother.

---------------------------------------

In a dank watery cavern somewhere in the Sword Coast, an exchange is made, a soul restored... but not entirely....

----------------------------------------

As if from the shadows, the elves of Doron Amar and their cohorts emerge, seeking the final component of their ritual to destroy the accursed Lolthite artifact which has wrought so much havoc upon the sword coast, turning brother against brother, lover against lover, sister against sister and threatening to devour all in the chaotic web it has woven.

Having overcome their trials, and loosened themselves from the tangled web, the party descends, deep below the earth, to a place of flame and destruction. There the ritual is performed, 7 drops of blood, and 6 guardians. Finally, overcoming the will of the Dark Seldarine, the relic is destroyed by one of their own, trying against all hope to right all the wrongs of the others.

----------------------------------------

In Sshamath, a treacherous acolyte returns thinking herself victorious, having upstaged her Yath and recovered a powerful artifact of their matron mother...

The false relic shatters as it is cast upon the floor of the temple of Lolth... Guards seize the stunned acolyte, and take her away where she will wait... to face the fury of the Yath she so wronged, and the matron she has failed.

The Pestilent March, Pt 5: The Misty Forest

The elves of the Misty Forest hold council with their allies, preparing defenses as the the undead and exotic golem hoard marches on towards their village. A scout approaches, and informs the council that the hoard has simply stopped marching, and are just standing there, scattered among a nondescript portion of the old forest in their circular formation.

The elves and their allies go to investigate. They find themselves face to face with the hoard, who appear to ignore them completely, until they try to enter their midst, at which point the undead and golems close ranks to bar their way. An elven scout is sent in, while a druid in dragon form flies overhead helping guide the scout to the hoards center, where a tunnel is found. The party decides to traverse the hoard shielded by divine sanctuary, and enters the tunnel.
---------------------------
Sometime later, the ground emits a low rumble. The undead masses of the hoard collapse, and are slowly consumed by the earth.

The great exotic adamantine golems remain however, littering the ancient section of the forest in a circular formation, evenly spread apart, all facing north, motionless, unresponsive, immovable, as if they have always been there.

Black Orc Warbands: Scouts

A group of adventurers answers the call and seeks anyone leading the organization efforts in Soubar. The party scouts the region for signs of Black Orc Activity.

Hidden: show
DMogorgon wrote:BlackOrc War bands have continued to coalesce around the lawless northern town of Soubar. Caravan movements have ceased due to the a substantial recent increase of attacks, and several roaming bandits in the area have retreated to the town due to the increased Blackorc presence.

In desperation, local leaders send missive to nearby centers of civilization calling for adventurers and aid against this mounting threat. Meanwhile, they struggle to organize the ragtag populous in attempts to prepare some sort of defenses, should the orcs organize and threaten the lawless tradeway town.

DMogorgon wrote:The Blackorc war bands - pale remnants of the once mighty hoard which had held much of the woods of Sharptooth and sacked the now desolate town of Triel - have begun migrating out of the hills and forests to which they had scattered throughout the north. Pushed out by fear as a darker presence has descended upon the reaching wood and cast its shadow among the whole of the northern Sword Coast.

Caravans and smaller settlements struggling to eek out a living in this harsh lawless land have seen an increase in blackorc raids over recent weeks, as desperate migrating war bands seek new resources and new dens.
