Hey everyone!
I finally was getting around to writing a character bio for Flynn (Air Gensai ...not Drow or Water Genasi, which I get called a surprising amount)
Anyway, I had a question about the origins of Genasi. Can human parents give birth to a genasi child? I mean can it be a trait that can lies dormant in a bloodline and manifests randomly in its offspring like Aasimar? I've been finding conflicting information about it, and it's always hard to tell what information is relevant to the server's ruleset and timeline. Any information would be appreciated!

Re: Genasi Origins
Air genasi are often born to unsuspecting human parents which cause a lot of issue sat times. Where this tends to happen most is in Calimshan where Air genasi and Fire genasi are at war with each other since the Djinn and Efreeti of the area have been battling for centuries. I would look into the history of Calimshan and all that for Genasi. It is a good read.

Re: Genasi Origins
Check out the book Races of Faerûn. Has a whole chapter on planetouched (basically genasi, tieflings, aasimar and fey'ri).

Re: Genasi Origins
The parent rules are the same for all planetouched. To quote from the Races of Faerun Deathgrowl recommended:
You (or anyone else looking to play races different than human) should really look into Races of Faerun, it's a great sourcebook that helps players a lot (I'd say more so than the usual sourcebooks which are made for DM's). It gives you a very clear look on the societies of various races, their usual outlook on the world, their habits and traditions etc. A lot of information packed in only 2-3 pages per race.

So a planetouched can be born from two "normal" parents, however they aren't exactly normal since they carry the planetouched bloodline. Most Air Genasi in Faerun come from djinn bloodlines established thousands of years ago in Calimshan. That does not necessarily mean that your character is from Calimshan of course since Air Genasi consider themselves children of the sky which is why they travel A LOT. It just means that the origin of your character's bloodline is very likely to be in Calimshan. Much rarer bloodlines come from various djinn summoned in other parts of the world or from a powerful mephit sorcerer who used to live in the Great Glacier. Another bloodline option is various air deities but the number of those bloodlines is very small. The offspring of a planetouched and a
normal creature of its type (such as the child of a fey’ri and an
elf) has an equal chance of being planetouched or “normal,” but
carries the potential for planetouched children in either case.
Sometimes the outsider bloodline becomes dormant for one or
more generations, only to manifest many years later.
