So in a complete 180, I think I'll go with a thaurmatuge. They're summoners if I read correctly. I think that would be pretty cool.

Figuring out your build is critical, personally, I won't touch magic or UMD with a 10 ft pole, so it was easy to eliminate most cases. After that, well, I adore swords, arming swords/longswords in particular and doing would let me use a shield should I ever truly needed one. I also wanted my character to wear enough metal to tempt dwarves into making a mine out of him. Another thing I liked was of fence over defense, as well as having my toon be extremely competent with his sword. WM/FB came naturally. I don't mind dump stats and I left his wis and cha at 6.

People need to stop suggesting Rogue, Assassin and Frenzied Berserker on a Knight build.
Personally, I would make a simple Fighter/Weapon Master/Anointed Knight and be done with it.
Most likely Falchion if you plan to never use a shield. Get Combat Expertise (required for Weapon Master) and maybe Improved Combat Expertise.
There's also the Man-at-Arms class that was based on the Knight class and is more tank-focused, requiring a shield for some of it's class features.
Though you could just not use a shield when you don't want to and have a Longsword or Bastard Sword which you use single or two-handed as you want.

You could have gone with a Hin. They can 2Hand a Short Sword and add Duelist for AC. Something like F8/SB7/WM7/Dl6 and stick the last 2 levels where you like. No reason a Hin can't be a Knight (in Light Armor). You could make an AK version too, e.g. F12/WM7/Dl6/AK5 or F8/WM7/Dl5/AK10 for instance.
Life is far too important a thing ever to talk seriously about it

I'd not think about viability at epics from the start
Start two-hander with good great sword 20 fighter/10 AoK if you like it. Walk the land, come to know it, gather gear, stash some gold. You can decide later
When you'll have knowledge and gear and friends, it'll be really easy to RCR (restart your game retaining half the XP) in anything and get back to 20 lightning fast. Comparatively to epics.
Fighters kind to be honest literally eat the gold, lots of it. Because good pure fighter benefits the most from the buff, but only can have it solo with lots of consumables,or and n/day items.
But it's fun in low levels and would be great in company at epics.
AoK may have some abilities that makes him less dependent.
