A slight digression - are there any good handaxes around? In loot table or somewhere to buy?

Very few people use handaxes so you can probably get an epic one for dirt cheap, i'd try the auction forum.
And yes weapon choice is extremely important for almost any build, let alone strength builds. Scimitar has a 5% higher chance to cirt then almost any other weapon. 5% is huge. In MMO's people hunt for entire gear sets just to get 5% higher crit and you get it simply by choosing the right weapon. That's why +4 Scimitar's are worth 200k and +4 spears are worth 4k :p

Yeah, it depends a lot more on the player, see Arkaine and his war mace. Personally, I'll stick with my longsword till the server goes ko.
Aurelien Amon: Human fighter, member of the Whitewood Vanguard, Hoarite
Lotrik: Not a wise Genasi, probably stronger than you tho, a master of longswords. Fully retired
Bob Thairo: Dreadknight of Bane, Back on the Coast, tyranning away with his wife

A scythe WM can kill frost giants in one flurry. It's pretty ridiculous. Ridiculously awesome, I mean.dzidek1983 wrote:not this game Lock...

well ever since they were given multi attack and monk speed you kinda need insanely high damage or AC to go mess with them

I'm thinking about this too and I might as well ask: What do you think is a good weapon for a STR-based ranger with PTWF (aka wielding 2 weapons, oversized two weapon fighting)?
I'm using warhammer but I'm considering if scimitars are better with their higher crit range even though the crit modifier and base damage is lower (have to find a nice and brutal weapon model to fit a tanarukk in that case though
).

Re: How relevant is weapon choice on a strength build?
theoretically if its good enough to use one at a time its good enough to use two at a time
the issue with TWF isnt so much the weapons but if you have the feats to support the style considering you are losing a good amount of AB
with PTWF tho... hardly matters, i would go with warhammers simply because most people already run around with 2 sharp objects, warhammers would be different without tryin to be snow flakey

I'd dual wield scissors, it means you get 24 APR (doubled for two blades), 25 with haste. And they have the most feared legacy in motherly folklore, nobody ever told you not to run with that "morningstar" or "scimitar".
Have you ever seen this guy dance?...

Though I mostly agree, if it seriously gimps your build, then it's a bit less fundzidek1983 wrote:take a weapon you like most, theres no fun at playing with things other people told you to
And if you're unable to find a proper weapon, then that kinda sucks too.
Off to greener pastures

Re: How relevant is weapon choice on a strength build?
I've seen a dual wield strength ranger with simitars. It is a lot of damage output. I would lean toward scimitars unless you just like the awesomeness of dual hammers.maseoo wrote:I'm thinking about this too and I might as well ask: What do you think is a good weapon for a STR-based ranger with PTWF (aka wielding 2 weapons, oversized two weapon fighting)?
