Bracers with spell immunity not working

Unread post by Hisoka »

Hello,
I recently purchased these bracers from the auctioneer but it is not working as intended.

I cast cloudkill and go stand in it then my constitution is drained to 0 after a few rounds.

Items cannot give you immunity to AoE spells unless they are cast directly on you. If they are cast on the ground, they can still affect you.

Meaning that, if you had an item with Spell Immunity: Fireball and someone cast a Fireball by targeting your character, you would absorb the spell and take no damage. If the caster targeted his Fireball on the ground beside you, the blast would still deal AoE damage, ignoring the immunity.

I think that's how it works with most AoE effects, but I heard there may be exceptions, can anyone mention any?

Also, don't forget, spell immunity is essentially a kind of spell resistance, it still runs through the spell resistance check (like mantles, and spells like globe of invulnerability, which provides spell immunity to level 4- spells). Cloudkill has no SR check on this server, and consequently, I do not believe a spell immunity item would make a difference, even if it did target you.

Its always been that way, in D&D and (to my knowlege, and to nwn2wiki's knowlege) in nwn2.

I am pretty sure I used my fireball immunity belt without damaging myself and not targeting myself. Even passed that belt on to fighters so I can safely use fireballs. It wasn't repelled by some other wards either. Cloudkill immunity items however never worked for me.

Just saying and wondering about it...

The reason is, Spell Immunity works just fine with AoE spells (Fireball, Ice Storm, Horrid Wilting and whatnot).

It does not, however, work with CLOUD SPELLS (Evard's, Cloudkill, Grease and many more).
