wands recharge

Unread post by freekender »

Hello all.

Although I've been playing here for some years, I don't know how does exactly the wand recharging work. Until now I used to play chars that autobuff him/herselves, but actually I'm playing a char which I think will greatly appreciate the help of some wands. Is it free? Does it cost gold? And if this is the case, how much?

Thanks in advance ;)

It costs money, depending on the wand it can be quite expensive. There is also a cumulative 20% chance the wand will break each time you recharge it.

Is there any way to know if an item has been recharged and how many times ? I'm asking since buying a "just baked" wand should be more expensive than one that is half of its life cycle :D

Yes, when you put the wand into the chest/box it tells you the cost to recharge as well as the destruction percentage. Just don't crank the recharge lever or it'll cost you! A brand new wand which has never been recharged before will have 0% as this initial percentage. For each full recharge thereafter the percentage increases by 20%. So a wand which has been recharged twice before will have a 40% destruction chance the third time it is to be recharged.

Also, it is MUCH cheaper to recharge an almost depleted wand back to full than buying a new one (eg, improved mage armor or death ward PC made wands cost around 30k brand new, but a recharge is less than a third of that amount).

Note that this same thing applies to rings, staves and amulets that can be recharged (eg. Ring of Nine Lives, Necklace of Fireballs). Some charged items cannot be recharged at all (eg. Gargoyle Boots, the old version with Stoneskin 5 charges/ use).

i knew that if you put it in the box it tells you how is the faliure percentage but i was wondering if there is an indication BEFORE buy it from the auctioneer for instance ... let say i have to buy a wand form auctioner: if i click view it just says me how many charges it has left not how many times has been recharged ... am i right ?

Also realize that the most you might be able to recharge a wand is twice. Many wands break the third time you go to recharge them....I have never seen a wand recharge past 40% break rate. That doesn't mean you just toss the wand once you have charged it twice over I still try and hope one day I can put a "OLD WAND" for rp in my inventory for fun that is at 80% break rate the next time I try........

Yeah unfortunately not, except that most wands on there tend to be new simply because they've either been recently crafted, or found in loot somewhere. Every wand i've bought off the auction were new.
