Monk of Tyr

Unread post by Grinning »

Can I get a ruling on whether Tyr allows for monks? I've done a bit of research and can't seem to find a published order of Tyrran monks, and without the basis of an order therefore would it be possible to be one? Would a monk find his way into the Tyrran faith and adapt or just become a cleric?

Any help would be appreciated!

I'm not aware of a Tyran monk order - you might however get some luck if you post in Tips and Tricks from the player base at large (as this is the Questions for DMs thread) - we have some very knowledgeable players amidst the player base. Alternatively one of my colleagues may be aware of one.

Generally though, we do not have any mechanical restrictions on playing a monk of any faith. Some make more sense than others, I happen to think Tyr is one that makes sense. It would be valid to have your PC be an unusual Tyran monk even if there was no published order. Either you can home brew an order, or he can be a convert from a Triadic background or elsewhere.

Thank you very much for the answer DM Golem. As far as I'm aware there is no published order of monks for Tyr in any edition, which is an odd oversight considering the prominence of Triadic monks overall. Regardless thank you again for all your comments here.

Link and quote below for the order of the even handed. Have fun!

Tyr – Even Handed Order (LG)

- Monks of this order are usually found keeping records for city authorities. Some even serve as police or judges. A very few go on quests to avenge wrong doings.
- May multiclass as Paladin, and or Justiciar of Tyr as long as monk level is equal or higher than Paladin level. For all monk bonus feats they must take Sacred Vow feats (from the Book of Exalted Deeds). At 4th level they receive the Blind Fighting feat for free.
Chord Silverstrings - Bard and OSR Squire / Tarent Nefzen - Arcane Wand Merchant and Master Alchemist / Irrace Arkentlar - Drow Adventurer / Finneaus Du'Veil - Gem Merchant and Executive Officer of SCCE
