I am curious what happens when you use a heal kit in combat. From my testing it seems that there is no attack of opportunity, but it does render the toon flat-footed.
Potions appear to work the same way.
Can anyone confirm/deny this. I've tested both healing kits and potions in JEGS and neither seem to provoke attacks of opportunity. I had heard that potions provoke them, but this appears to be incorrect.

potions do yes, kits dont
custom potions may not as they are basically spells and not actual potions you drink

Yes, potions should cause attacks of opportunity, but sometimes it doesn't. That's because of how the game handles time in sequences. If lucky you time the heavy potion drinking just as the blow has hit, or is still in the last sequence, at which time the attack of opportunity won't occur. Otherwise it will.
Healkits provide no attack of opportunity.
Neither of them make you flat footed. Well, if the player is looking through his inventory for just the "right" potion or healkit, they might stand idle for a second or two, and during that time they're flat-footed. However, if you just spam that healkit quickslot, you won't be. Flat-footed is basically when you're not doing anything. Always run around in circles even when at the FAI campfire RP, and you'll never get caught flat-footed
Contrary to popular belief, even healkits cancels defensive stance. It won't appear as if it does, since it is still active, but the bonuses are lost. It's an annoying bug.

Re: Potions, Heal kits, Attacks of Opportunity, and Flat-foo
My main, Ashe, is a dex based monk fighter. Almost all his AC is based on dodge, dex, and other AC that is lost when flat footed. Any time I try to use healkits during a fight he gets hit way way way more than he normally would.
Same with Durin. I can be tanking a boss and as soon as I start using healkits I start getting hit much more.
I always thought this was due to losing dodge and dex AC while using the healkit. Maybe there is another explanation?
Regarding potions:
I tested in jegs with potions of aid and potions of lesser regeneration. I chugged them constantly an never suffered an attack of opportunity.
I guess I could do more testing on the healkits to see what attack roll they are hitting me with when I use the healkits.
