Tech Support aka what did I get myself into
So I just completed my first solo build and I am having issues getting the OS installed. I went into the BIOS and adjusted the priority list so that the computer will boot from the flash drive that has Windows on it, but when I restart the computer it still doesn't start up the Windows install screen. Anyone have any idea what I should try next?

What windows are you trying to install. Are you certain you set up the flash drive correctly?

Windows 7 and I believe the flash drive is setup correctly, I used it about a year ago to install windows on a different build. I will try deleting everything off of it and putting the Windows software back onto the USB

How do you put the windows software on it? You need to run a separate application in order to make the usb drive bootable. I can get you some links of such applications if you like.

I think you found the issue! I have put some files on the USB since the last time I used it for a boot and that may be affecting the startup. What application would you recommend? And thank you for your help Mentalist, very much appreciated!mrm3ntalist wrote:You need to run a separate application in order to make the usb drive bootable. I used a Microsoft program to convert the ISO file to the USB. But still not booting up when I set it first in priority. Any other ideas?

diskpart, select the USB disk, clean, create the partition as primary, select the first partition of the USB and assign as active before running a NTFS based format.
Then use the ISO's mounted boot directory file bootsect /nt60 pointed to the USB drive before you copy the contents of the ISO to the USB.

Ended up borrowing a friends CD drive so I could just use the Windows CD. Worked fine and is currently installing. Appreciate all the help Mentalist and Aspect of Sorrow!
