Knighthood and the Anointed Knight prestige class

Unread post by Calantyr »

If you take levels in the Anointed Knight class are you considered to be a knight or squire for roleplay perposes? To take the Original Campaign as an example, could an Anointed Knight be afforded social and legal priviledges that benefits the knightly caste?

I'm thinking that my character is a combination sell-sword and hedge knight. He travels the land earning his keep, and while he keeps to (some) knightly traditions he has no formal master. Would this be permitted or do I *have* to join a Knight guild in-game?

And on that note, how do I learn more languages? I would like to pick up a few more surface dialects (I already have Illuskan and Chondathan) but I don't see a method in-game.

Rhaeya Koadessin - Netherese Survivor, Thokk - THOKK SMASH!

new languages can only be learned with +2 INT per language. I believe it has recently been ruled even DM's will not give out a language.

A noble title, including knighthood, has to be earned through roleplay. Taking levels in a class or writing a background story is not enough.

The appellation anointed knight is similar to the class name of Paladins. Some Paladins are knighted by secular authorities while others are appointed by their churches or religious institutions.

The difference is that noble titles have a place in the sovereign hierarchy of a state or nation. A knight has formal rights and privileges, as well as duties. He exerts some formal authority over common soldiers and citizens. On the contrary anointed knights and Paladins appointed by religious institutions only have moral authority and whatever respect their cause and virtue(s) engender.

If tied to an institution an anointed knight level implies being appointed by a religious authority. Not by a secular authority unless a DM fiat is given for a noble title. I am not saying that anointed knights must be appointed by a secular or religious authority (as Paladins are). It is conceivable that they can be anointed by a lone cleric or even a favored soul, or other Divine servant.

Thanks for the heads up guys.

Just a clarification for the languages. If I increase my INT post-character creation, will I automatically get a new language? For example if I go from 15 to 16.

And just so I don't need to create a new thread, has Finder Wyvenspur levelled up to Godhood yet? I love his portfolio (life cycles, knowledge, artistry, and hand-and-a-half swords).

1: Yes, you get the language screen on level up if it is available.

2: No, and there was (may still be) a statue to him in WMT, but it's not supposed to be there.
