Lol! Right?
I am extremely thankful our ud hub is less yath occupied than others. Boot kicking is still op however.

I'll see you outside of the city limits.Thids wrote:In Sshamath, as a male, you deal with the yath by spitting in their face and laughing.
(just make sure you never ever leave the city)
Anyways as a drow, you will end up in PVP. It is almost inevitable. You have to get up and try again however, because back when the UD was super populated I can't remember how many times clashing with Aelcar got me beat up or killed. It is also how my PC landed on the surface for a while, because Greyfang tribe don't play! Hostilities in UD are inevitable, you can never please anyone. I spend every moment in the UD on edge when dealing with someone, ready because I am expecting something to go wrong.
We need more players who can cope with this, and DM's that don't mind it. Void was.... rough. Very rough. Very very rough. But he did make the UD fun and a lot more hardcore of a setting.

Well, my own opinions that PvP in this game is lame, aside - I think the conflict is a big draw. Conflict does not equal PvP however. Plenty to work with without flagging hostile.
Just remember even in the underdark the rules apply. If you are griefed, make a huge stink about it because that seems to be the only way guilty parties will learn. I feel bad reading about things like the guy above posted. That's not how it should have been.

To be clear I did not see it as griefing. The player sent a tell indicating his characters intention. My point was simply that bloodlust was willing to expand the story from that initial background event he ran and I was trying to build rp for the city as well. However, the IC decision to kill that pc stopped that story line. As a player the decision can be made to take the pc prisoner, keep him from the conclave and learn more of what he knows, which would have continued the story. By instead killing the pc to Rob Sshamaths conclave the story simply ended.
I only brought it up to show that at least some of the lack of dm support and lack of consistent players in the underdark might have to do with the decisions established ud players make in regards to their characters actions.

Ah gotcha, to me it sounded pretty terrible. Like you mentioned you knew something about an arc and you were just sort of summarily executed.

Re: Drow Exile?
I havent been to the Underdark for 5 years at least, since I was Matron of Mori'hyanda back in the early days. But it seems to me one of the issues is that the most interesting aspect of playing a Drow or any other UD race, is the high intrigue level. Sadly a lot of people lack creativity to make that really interesting outside of the stereotype characters and as a result back then, you had all these Llothians who might have been played correctly, but at the same time didnt really have the freedom to do so, given that Sshamath is such a unique city.
So outside of the city lawlesness ruled, as it should in any part of the Underdark, but it also increased the amount of PvP you might encounter on an average session online. Now as said, I havent been there for many years, so I dont know how it works now. But PvP in this game is really lackluster to be honest and I think RP is far more exciting, but others might think differently and if theres this huge gank fest syndrome going on still, its not enjoyable for people that are individuals and unassociated with "the cool gang", whomever that might be at present time.

Re: Drow Exile?
About attitudes toward Lolthites, isn't the quote about "spitting" a tad extreme? I know the clergy is relegated to a lesser role in the City and/or ignored, but I also thought they were not openly ridiculed, belittled etc? These are quotes from the BG:TSCC Underdark guide:
Since the Illithilich War of 1348 / 49 DR or 4220 / 21 SC there has been a marked increase in the amount of devoted worshipers and regular worshipers of Lolth. At the same time there was also a very slight rise in those who pay her lipservice. This means that overall the Spider Queen has gained a modest amount worshipers, compared with the total population, and that her worship is the largest in the City by a wide margin. However, the worship of Lolth does not dominate the city, though the majority of people are certainly ill at ease ignoring or angering her. The worship of other deities hasn't been severely affected.
Maybe I misinterpreted what was said, in that case, ignore this comment. In Menzoberranzan all males show extreme deference to all females of equivalent rank. However, in Sshamath when passing a priestess of Lolth in the street a male does not bow and scrape, or avert their eyes. Instead a quick nod or or no response at all is normal behavior.
