A wandering priest’s trinkets

"Alms! Alms for the poor!"
♊ Minotaur Labyrinth Maps
A ragged priest wanders the roads between Baldur’s Gate and Nashkel, collecting alms for the needy and distributing food and aid where he can. On his travels he also reveals detailed and carefully scribed maps of what is said to be the minotaur labyrinth in the Cloakwood forest. Offering them to the occasional adventurer and experienced looking traveller, in exchange for donations to the church of Ilmater and alms for the poor. Rags is said to carry around a small bundle, containing only a limited and ever dwindling number of such maps. Each map appears marked and numbered in a special way.

♊ Netherese Ruins Map
On his travels, the ragged priest either explored the Netherese ruins or found a map detailing their secrets. For he is seen asking a considerable donation in exchange for such a map. The priest makes clear that, to his knowledge, only one such map exists. From what can be seen at glance, the map marks a dizzying number of portals, doorways, and rooms within the confines of some maze. A path also appears to be marked across the maze, leading up to some untold destination. Before anything else can be learned from gazing at this map, the priest would roll it back up and place it within a wooden case.

In his travels, the ragged priest met with an experienced outdoorsman who showed interest in the maps. After a lengthy conversation, and following the priest's reassurance that the map is legitimate, the outdoorsman finally decided to acquire the map in exchange for two gold bars and a holy pendant. What really convinced the man was that the coin would go to feed and clothe the impoverished, and that Ilmater has no large and rich temples in the area.

While collecting alms at the Friendly Arm Inn, the ragged priest met with a cheerful Silvaeran student of the Lady's College. Her merry humming caught the poor priest's attention, and with the Moonmaiden's blessing she donated 2000 gold coins and received a map of the Cloakwood labyrinth in return.

*Sitting on a bench in the courtyard of the Friendly Arm's Inn, Shandril gazes over the map as the light of the nightsky above glistens in her hair. She lifts her eyes a moment to take in the beauty of the scenery and smiles happily as Selûne makes her journey across the heavens she ponders if Avariel elves would view the world bellow much the same way, then shrugs and begins studying the map again.*

"Very thorough work there sir Rags! This shall help me a great deal in filling out the blanks of my map."

*She hums a light and joyful tune to herself as she places a peculiar lantern on the bench next to her and becomes fully emerged in the study of the map and synchronizing it with her own, hasty scribbled notes on many papers fill up the vacant seats on the bench as she spends the entirety of the night emerged in study.*

*a well dressed Human pauses as he notices the map collection*

Ahhh map making, such a lost art these days. For the map of the nether ruins I shall extend an offer of ten thousand gold. The name is Rellon Maize my good man. I hope we can come to an agreement!

The ragged priest finishes talking to some messenger. He then turns his attention to Rellon Maize.

“Ah, I am afraid s-someone has already outbid your offer of 10,000 b-by tenfold, friend. I w-will have to accept this offer soon, before this m-messenger departs... unless you or anyone else w-wishes to counter the offer w-with a higher b-bid?”

The poor priest is seen conversing between the messenger and the mysterious woman, his ears turning from one to the other as they both seemingly vie for the same map. At some point the priest's eyes widen greatly.

"F-four hundred thousand?!"

The priest appears to collect himself for a moment, before continuing in hushed tones.

Tired of all the cloak and dagger, the priest decides to hand the map to one of the anonymous parties and receives a handsome sum in return. The stranger even purchases one of the labyrinth maps.

A handsome middle-aged man garbed in plain travel-worn robes approaches the priest and asks, "Good day to you, holy one. My Order would like to purchase a copy of your detailed drawings of the ruins deep beneath Durlag's. If your only copy has already been sold, we would like to commission you to produce another copy, a feat I'm sure you are more than capable of doing. We will match the price you've previously sold it for and add on several bags more as a gesture of goodwill." He gives the priest an appraising look and awaits his response.
