Thanks for the link! I actually did read that, but I couldn't re-find it in my quick search through the forums. And while that does help, I still had some other questions. Let me try clarifying my question a bit more.

Most of what that post talks about is devils, feys, or some other extra planar being granting warlock powers to someone. You need to do something for this being, and in exchange you've got your powers. And if you ever do anything to displease them, they can yank your powers away in the blink of an eye (essentially resetting you back to lvl 1).

That part I understand, but I was hoping to be able to play my character in a slightly different way.

The thread also mentioned that it's possible for one of my ancestors to have made such a deal in order to give one of their decendants (ie: me) such power. I suppose I could go this route......

However, is it possible for my character to simply have his warlock powers? I'm thinking similar to a sorc, who is just born that way, can a warlock just have his powers and not really know how or why?

Basically is there a way to be a warlock that doesn't involve any devils, feys, ect?

If it's not possible, I could go the amnesia route. My character made a pact with a devil, and then lost his memory. The only problem is I'm sure that if that happened the devil would be more then happy to reappear to remind me of our agreement. Or just give up and take my powers away. But it'd be tricky to explain why he would let me wander around, growing in power without ever fufilling my half of the bargin.

Oh, one other thing. Assuming that I do go with the "I made a deal with a devil to get my powers" background, what exactly would such a deal involve? If someone could give me a few examples so that I know how to play my character, I'd appreciate it. (Like, would I have to assassinate someone? Steal something? Kick a dog?)

Ok, so that was more then one question...........

Usually, when you are dealing with the devil, you just need to sign up a contract with your blood. He'll grant you powers just for that, of course in return he'll have your soul, sooner or later.

Or he might start giving you little tasks, starting from kicking the dog or granny and ending up with slaughtering an entire village or forcing someone into signing up the contract.

------------------------------------------

That aside I have a little question of mine own.

I love playing sorcerer chars, but truth be told I still know little about the origins of their powers. No matter where I search I always get about the same thing, "sorcerers are born with magic, no one knows why".

So from where so sorcerers gain their powers? Besides the most common belief that it come from the dragon blood in their veins and besides unnatural heritage, I've only found some references to death slaad embrios being injected into a pregnant women.

But I've found none confirmation about such things, neither examples.

So can somebody help me out with the origin of sorcerers's power?

since there isnt any requirements for the RP, and i havent heard of any DM inforcing the pact on people, i think you can go the way you want to.

sorcerer:
http://forgottenrealms.wikia.com/wiki/Sorcerer

The sorcerer is the arcane antithesis of the wizard. Wielding raw, barely contained magical power, sorcerers channel bursts and blasts of arcane energy through their bodies. They gain their power not through rigorous study of esoteric tomes, but by harnessing magic in their blood, waiting to be tapped and shaped. If wizards wield magic as fighters wield swords, a sorcerer's magic is the arcing greataxe of a raging barbarian.

You might be a proud dragonborn scion of ancient Arkhosia, calling on the draconic power of your heritage, or perhaps you were bathed in dragon blood as an infant to fill you with that power. You might have been born in a place where planar forces converged in strange eddies, infusing you with chaos, or perhaps you survived implantation of a slaad embryo, which left the taint of chaos upon you. Magic pulses through your veins, calling on you to give it expression. As it grows ever stronger, will it consume you or transform you into magic incarnate?

Sometimes they take their powers from the wild magic, when the Weave is damaged or distorted. But this could only happen after the Times of Trouble and Spellplague.

Is there anything related to 3.5ed or earlier editions?

I know this is probably a silly question to ask, but I didn't see it answered in the first few pages so i figure I'll ask it anyway...

1) How far from the time of the original Baldur's Gate does this server take place?
2)Will we see or meet the people from the original Baldur's Gate? (Possibly in DM event type deals...I know its probably not a good question to ask in this thread, but figured I'd attach it anyway in case ;) )
3)Would people be speaking of some of the events that took place?
4)How widely known would the lore behind these events be to people of the region?
5)Are we likely to see any reprocussions from the heroes adventures?

Will we speak of some of the events that took place? (Obviously not if they haven't happened yet, but figured I'd ask anyway.)
How well known would the heroes deeds from the original Baldur's Gate be understood by the people of this particular region along the Sword Coast? (If they had happened already.)
Are we likely to see any reprocussions from the heroes adventures?
The server is set in around 1345 - 1349, or about ten years before any of what happened in Baldur's Gate occurred. I'm not sure if the staff here is going to implement such characters, but it has been discussed before and was shot down.

As for repercussions? Few, if any, have occurred that have given a lasting effect to the PW as we know it besides the NTE and the Nashkel Mines.

Nope its Bhaal's avatar that I'm talking about, For some reason I thought he was named Severoth. :( He's known as Slayer though, so that's not so far off.

Ah. Okay!

Either way, I don't think the odds of a BG character showing up are very high.

Here's a link I found recently. It's pretty much the timeline of the Forgotten Realms. It can be interesting if you feel like reading it.
