Surface half-drow?

Unread post by freekender »

After some months playing mainly in the UD I feel like I want to play a light realm char again. The issue is that my old toons there are a bit "flat", due mainly to a worse RP from my part in the old days.

So, I am considering some options, and one of them is a half-drow (good aligned). Is this possible? I mean, some races can choose wether to be surfacers or UDers (for example tieflings). And if so, I would welcome some tips about how to play a character like this and the relations (s)he could make and the general reactions I could expect. For example, would (s)he have problems in more populated areas or cities? Will (s)he be able to contact or interact with elves without no much problem? Or (s)he will be killed at the moment (s)he enters their woods?

Furthermore, (s)he is intended to be a divine magic user, and so very close to his/her God/Goddess. So, how will the other "diviners" be supposed to react in general?

Extra info will be also greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Half-drow are UD races and cannot be a surface race here. You can roll a half-drow and bring it to the surface but is is quite frowned upon to make a UD character with the sole purpose of being on the surface.

All PvP-rules specific to Kill on Sight apply to half-drow on the surface, I believe.

That said, it is possible to make a half-drow who does not look that drow-like depending on what their other parent was.

A half-drow brought up in drow society should still have a very drow-like mentality.

You could ask Storm Munin for advice. He has played something like this before but his character was still a UD character.

As for good aligned half-drow, there may be some around who can advice you on it but while it is possible, it can be hard to pull off in drow society. Evil is everywhere!

Thanks for the answer Nomster. I though it would be allowed, a pity it is not.

My original idea was a char that would be half drow and half elf. Not sure yet if an escaped slave or born in the surface because of a drow incursion plus a bloody time with an elf village plus... well, the obvious.

Taking this into account, would be "legal" to choose a surface elf as his/her race and RP him/her as having drow blood? And this includes his/her bio and appearance, which will make totally clear that is not a 100 % elf. If the answer is "yes", I will be glad if the questions from my first message could be answered as well.

Thank you!

You would need to send a PM to the DM team to be certain, but I think the answer is going to be "no" due to the "play your character sheet" rule. If the PC is a moon elf, then they are just that. Any Drow blood would need to be far enough removed (generation's, 1,000's of years possibly) that you would not be classified as Drow in any way.

Again, not saying this is final, but based on my interpretation if you want to be of Drow heritage you are an Underdark character...

chad878262 is correct, the "play whats on your character sheet" rule applies here.
