Volomirror Aleksys memoirs

Unread post by Mustang »

It is a dark night outside in Baldur's Gate. A peasant-looking figure appears at the gate of the city and has a smile on his face of finally reaching his destination. He is still very new to this adventuring deal, not sure where and what deeds he will accomplish, but he is looking forward to his adventures on the Sword Coast. He begins walking towards the city, and while the heavy rain might annoy others, this one is not distracted by it.

Such begins the story of one named Volomirror.

Still a newcomer to Baldur's Gate, Volomirror has been looking for work. He found a store named Sorcerer's Soundries (or is it Sorcerous Soundry's? Volo can never remember properly, 'tis a place with magic). He got himself a few potions there to treat his wounds on future adventures. He was then seen asking around the streets for some work around town. Luckily, a passer by noticed him and pointed him to the Torgeir Mining company and Maltz' shop. There, Volomirror found some work.

The one named Maltz has tasked me to deliver a package to Beregost. I do not know of this place, but I will ask other travelers outside of Baldur's Gate to point me in the right direction. I left the town and shortly met a friendly hafling named Sylvia. She was very kind to me and helped me find work outside of town as well. This farmer lookin' for wolf pelts. Sylvia then helped me to hunt a few of these wolves in the forest to the south. They are quite dangerous, but I think I can handle them.

I have trained more in the arts of the wood ranger. I now have my own animal companion. It is a black panther and I called him Raven. He is very loyal to me and will be of great use on my future adventures.

In regards to the work I have been 'ired for, a knight named Temis has helped escort me to this southern city named Beregost to fulfill my work for Maltz, I am very grateful to him.

I have also met a few other adventurers, one of them showed me this cave that is full of kobolds. Foul creatures they are, one of them can even practice magic! I do not yet have any close friends, but I still remember that lady Sylvia that helped me when others would not.

I have recently became acquainted with a man named Colt. He was threatening two other fellows by the campfire that he would roast their pets, as well as mine. He has a lady that follows him around, seem to go by the name of Kichigai. This man seemed very rude, showing off his big axe and threatening our animals. Eventually, he got distracted by something else and ran off.

Also met an orc that serves for good, his name is Tarnok Deadbane. He is very powerful and seems loyal to his cause of protecting good from evil. I am still unsure about how I feel about all this. I could be a good doer, but I also want to make some coin for myself. We will see how this goes..

Also met a fellow ranger that goes by the name of Taven. He has told me I need to follow a deity. I am not too knowledgeable in this, but I found a note from my late mother that said Grumbar, this must be the path she followed. I have traveled to Candlekeep and found out more about this. It seems to be a supreme earthlord of some kind. This will be the path I follow for now.

As the days and weeks passed, so did Volomirror become more adept and advance further down his training. He has ventured with other travelers to the kobolds, even further south to what he calles the Gnoll Keep. Oh foul they are, those dogs with man bodies. Almost scares away Volo every time he ventures there. Recently, Volo has ventured further. There is a forest to the east, goes by the name Cloakwood. Volo met some adventurers that took him there and they hunt lizardmen. They are not as intimidating as the gnolls, but some of them have magic which can intimidate Volo sometimes.

I have not made any close friends as of yet on my hunts of the gnolls and the lizardmen. There are a few names I can remember now from my hunts such as a lady called Janine and an elf fellow named Ryll, as well as a elf lady named Roxy, but I am not too much of a close friend with them. Two that have been closer to me are a mage called Rosk and a dwarf named Modre. There is also a pirate named Veil, he seems to think everyone is a goblin. Quite odd he is..

Lately, the fellow named Colt has been assaulting me, claiming I am his hostage and trying to make me write some songs for him. I have been deceiving him, telling him lies that I have been working on his play, when in reality I make jokes about him behind his back. Hopefully, he will not find out or he will spin his flail on me into oblivion.

I also ran into a drow in Beregost just the other day. The drow female was trying to defend her presence against the orc named Tarnok Deadbane, but he would have none of it. Father did warn me of the drow and their evil, so I am glad this one was discovered in the middle of the town.

The most interesting event that has happened was a 50 foot golem that assaulted the lands north of Beregost. I was there with Rosk and Modre, we saw this dwarf and undead army working together to take down this giant golem made of rock. The big golem nearly run over me as he come down the hill, but I made it out safely in time.

Just when I thought those golems were gone, I ran into this druish lady on the way back to Baldur's Gate who confront that rude man Colt and turned him into a hafling! I speak to Colt for a while after this happen and he told me he burned the forest and needs to remedy his problem with the druish lady. He also seem to no longer travel with his lady friend, apparently she betray him.

I have recently run into this moon elf lady. I am not sure what her name is because she does not speak common or elf. She seems to speak in some strange foreign language, but I cannot understand it. She does not behave like other elves do, she has a evil looking worg following her and she devours her prey after she has killed it which is quite disturbing. There is something about her that keeps bringing me to hunt with her however. She seems to share a common goal of ridding those foul lizards from Cloakwood and to destroy the underhulks in the mines. After a few hunts together, she seems to acknowledge me and thinks of me as a friend, but I still do not know for sure what I am getting myself into.

On one of the recent hunts with her, I have met another lady elf that goes by the name of Elvaene. She seems to very proud of her heritage and has a very strong soul. I think I am making a close friend with the two elfs and hope to meet others like them.

I have hunt a lot as of recent with Elvaene and the feral moon-elf lady. They are both good company and I am glad to have them as friends. More recently, I have hunt minotaurs with the ranger named Taven and his friend Jael. Hunting with Taven made me feel alive again and I have chosen to visit Candlekeep again to learn more of deities to follow. After doing so, I have ultimately chosen to be a servant of goddess Mielikki and become a protector of the woods.

During one of my recent hunts in the lizard forest by myself, I run into Colt's lady friend named Kichigai. She seems a bit crazy and very odd-speaking, but there is definitely something interesting about her. I will have to follow her around a bit to find out why she is not around Colt any more.

Recently as well, I have been on a hunt of a goblin cave north of Beregost with my friend Elvaene and some others such as Roxy and a fellow named Ryll that I had met previously. Things got some what out of hand at one point, but we all managed to stay together and chase out all the goblins from that cave, at least for a short while. Afterwards, I found out that Ryll too is a ranger and follower of Mielikki. He shares the same goals as me and I am glad to call him a brother of mine. He seems to be more skilled than me, knows a fair amount of magic and can pick open those treasure chests too. I will have to do some training myself on those treasure locks for future adventures.

Weeks have gone by and I am still seeking to find my previous friends Rosk and Modre. I have not seen them around the sword coast as of recent unfortunately, but I will still try to find them.

Recently, I have had some very dangerous travels. There have been drow on the trade route near the Gnoll keep and more rumours of some disease spread by the day. Two drow nearly assaulted me by the forest south of Baldur's Gate, but my survival instinct has managed to keep me alive for now. The Fist took away the feral elf-lady saying that she some drow spy, but I think Elvaene got her out of Fist jail. I have not seen or hunt with the feral elf lady since then... but I do miss her. There was a certain spiritual bonding between us for a while there.

I have been spending most of my travels with my friend Elvaene and as of more recently the elf ranger I met called Ryll. They are both close friends of mine, at least I think so and very strong souls both of them. I feel safe when I am deep in some nasty underground cave fighting dangerous foes when I am with them. They both watch my back and I try to watch theirs. I have also had some hunts with the one named Jael and I have also met this elf named Ka'rai. Ka'rai seems to be a bit different than others, mostly keeps to himself, but we have several common goals, so I believe we will be good friends soon.

Another friend I have hunt with often lately is Colt's lady friend named Kichigai. As I have previously thought, there is definitely something wrong in her head, but I am still very intrigued by her. She may be odd and different from others, but she seems very wise as well. Recently, a fellow asked her why she has a mask on and to take it off for a moment so we can see her face. She replied to his inquiry by saying that we all wear masks, just some of us have them more visible than others. Sort of made me consider what secrets I have of my own that I keep from others. I will keep following this Kichigai lady, she is different but she seems to be a close friend of mine and someone that is very trust-worthy. She also watches my back and keeps me out of trouble on a common basis. Hopefully we can learn more from each other as time goes by. There is most definitely something special about this Kichigai.

Since his arrival on the Sword Coast, Volomirror had learned a number of useful techniques and skills to help him on his adventures. He was now adept with firing several arrows in a short time with his bow, as well as opening locks and making himself unseen in the shadows. He had now started to maintain a number of close friends unlike his previous travels and he was very pleasant about this. Volo looks forward to what his future adventures hold for him as he has a company of friends to tackle it on with.

It has been several months since I met that friendly hafling named Sylvia. I have not seen her since nor have I seen my friends Rosk and Modre for a few months as of now. I do wish I would encounter them on the trade route some time...

I am still hunting in the woods close to the trade route with my friend Elvaene, Ryll and Kichigai. However, trouble is roaming in the south. There is a disease originating in Beregost it seems and it has killed several towns folk. Apparently the water supply near Beregost has some foul treachery in it causing folks to get a mortally wounding disease. It must haf sumthin' to do with those nasty goblins that roam near that river. I have been patroling this region for a while now and helping a few passer-bys from encounters with those evil goblins. I will try and keep out of contact with the Beregost townsfolk, at least for a while.

In my previous memoir, I mention one named Ka'rai. We have become good friends me and him, he is very friendly with me and fights for a good cause. We have hunt and run off the orks in a forest to the east with much sucess. I am happy to call him a good friend.

More recently, my adventures have taken me to south of Beregost to a place called Nashkel. There is a long and distant plain there where giants roam. They must call t'em giants because they are so tall and powerful. Me and friends have been hunting them recently to try and chase them off from the ruins of Nashkel. I have learned from Elvaene that good leadership is necesary on a big-game hunt like these giants and I try follow her advice on these ocassions. We recently hunt these giants with a man named Besh and another one named Dante as well as some others I have encounter in the past such as Roxy and Janine. They all seem like good folk, thou I am not all too fond of the tactics that Besh uses. Alas, he prove to be useful in our latest hunt, but he did not seem to watch each others back like I am use to with Ryll and Elvaene. Dante is an interesting fellow, a practitioner of the shadow arts just as my own, thou he is considerably more skilled than me. He is friendly to me and I will see if we can become better friends.

After our last hunt, we had a potentially disastrous encounter with two drow. Heading north from the giants field, we made a campfire near Beregost and sharing stories with Roxy, Ryll and Besh and my good friend Kichigai. Roxy shared a most interesting story about sum dragon that eats virgins. My friend Kichigai seemed to understand the story, but I was not sure what the meaning was. One day, maybe Roxy will explain it better to me. As it happened, our campfire was interrupted by two drow just as daylight approached. Roxy immediately went to summon the Lathander guards in Beregost, and I sneaked into the forest to seek the aid of my panther. With the towns folk nearing the border of the city, the guards alerted and my panther, the drow walked away without causing us any harm or challenging any of us. We may not have been escaped from this confrontation where it not for Roxy's quick thinking.

Following this near confrontation with the drow, I have learned to appreciate the more pleasant parts of my travels. I am very glad to have Elvaene, Ryll and Taven as my closest friends and I would do anything to keep them out of any trouble or harm. I am also growing fonder of my friend Kichigai, I Really do wonder what face resides behind that mask, but she wont show me. I have also been trying to have her make me some fire-tipped arrows, but she nearly set me on fire when she tried to do so. I told her thats not how its done, but she does not quite understand. Alas, I am very glad she is different than other folk and will see where our friendship goes in time. With some hope, we will not encounter any more drow for a while and this nasty disease in Beregost will be short-lived.

More days and nights pass and so Volomirror`s stories continues. He has been patrolling the trade route for some time now for any wrong doers and travelling with his close friends on adventures around the Sword Coast.

I have had a run-in with one of the orcs that has been robbing unsuspecting travelers on the trade route. I attempted to take her head off after she admitted to the evil doings, but was unable to do so due to her strength. She nearly mashed me to bits.. but here I am, alive and well. All thanks to this cousin I met recently... He calls himself Seadin. I am unsure of what type of adventurer he is.. but he definitely saved my life that time. I will try to become better friends with him in the future.. he may be a very useful friend to have.

After this.. I decided it was time to see a more familiar face and take a rest from all the hunting I have been doing. I travelled north east of Baldur`s Gate to my father`s farm.. The old man still goes outside from time to time to get the milk from the cows... but he stays in the safety of the house most of the time. I told him he should hire someone to do the work for him, but he won`t have it any but his own way. I keep telling he`s too old for it.. but he won`t listen to me. Maybe I can talk some senses into him if I bring a friend next time to talk to him.

After discussing with my father, I left to head south to meet with my close friend Kichigai. Together, we hunt ourselves some giants at the plains near Nashkel. Apparently.. they make good shoes.. or that`s what Kichigai said. She keeps telling me she must make shoes because we need to find out if the gods have feet. Her quest for shoes seems rather strange... but at least she not robbing innocents like those nasty orcs. I find myself spending most of my time with her in the recent weeks that have come to pass by. Most recently, we discussed what the meaning of life is... she seems to know much about it than me and I need to find the answer myself. I will try to see if I can get the information out of her sometime in the future.

Ryll has recently introduced me to a friend of his that goes by the name of Zaimon. He seems like some sort of prankster mage to me. I have trust in Ryll that he would not be friends with an evil-doer, but I have some suspicion on what Z's intentions are. He offered to sell a fancy magical sword for me for a certain amount of gold after hearing I was looking for one. I told I was not in possession of that many gold coins, and he said he would give me the sword for free if I sold my soul to him and did him some favors. His offer seemed absurd and I quickly voiced my refusal.

A few weeks later, while travelling to meet up with Kichigai, I ran across Zaimon near the Kobold cave and he was once again up to no good. He told me how his imp was a slave and I told him he should show more respect to the animal. He then proceeded to summon an undead being of sort. Immediately upon seeing this, I took my leave and ran into my friends near the city and told them of this. Zaimon then made his arrival in an invisible form and proceeded to say he would report me to the fist for threatening him and that I had made up the entire story.

After this encounter, I told Ryll I would never travel or jouney alongside Zaimon's presence and that he (Ryll) should watch his own safety around the necromancer.

I have had an encounter with Zaimon since that last one.. where he proceeded to threaten me and he acted surprised that I was still alive. I do not know what he is up to.. but I have a suspicion he intends to do harm to me.

I have been helping Kichi find the key for those haflings in the mines just north of Beregost. Those two hins sure talk fast and know the cave well.. but they do seem to lose their key every time I pay them a visit. We searched the entire mine a few times, but we were not sucessful in finding the lost key. We nearly got in trouble in our encounter into the goblin shaman.. thankfully Kichi saved me and blew up the shaman with her fire blast. I let her have all the treasure in the mine.. and asked if she would finally show me her face.. but I was not that lucky. She did however share with me what she believes the meaning of life to be and it was very beautiful and wise. This saying that she told me will hopefully stay in my memory forever.

It has been over a month now since I last saw Kichigai. I have looked all over the Swoard Coast for her, but I have not had any success. It is not clear to me where or why she has left.. but I know that she is not to be found.. at least for the time being. After I exhaustively travelled all over the forests and towns that I know of, I have chosen to take a long break from my ranger training and seek some answers at my father's farm. It seems to me I cannot find anything by looking for her, so perhaps if I stop looking, she will come to me. Maybe that's just dreaming.. but I still have hope.

I am currently on my way to the farm as I write this. Pop will not be too pleased to have to deal with me being around again, but he will just have to deal with it. He probably still hasnt hired someone to help him.. that old coot drives me mad sometimes.

If pop wakes me up before sunrise again, ugh.. I don't even want to think about it. For his own sake, I hope he does not do that again. It feels like I have been on the farm for really long now, even though I am pretty sure it's only been two months. I've actually forgotten some of the things I previously learned.. wonder if I'll ever be able to do that thing again...

Well it doesn't matter, I probably won't ever need to use it again. I practice all day with an elven bow, and getting more and more better at it which is promising I guess. I have no idea when I will be able to get the effort to go back to my old ways. Right now, just helping around the farm with various things.. and when I have spare time.. I put some time with my longbow.

I wonder if my friends will remember me.. it's been so long since I saw them. I really miss them and I wish could go back to my old ways, but just don't feel like it anymore. Sometimes I sit by the fence watching folk go back and forth from the town. I keep hoping that I'll spot her on that road, but that has yet to happen and probably never will happen. I won't even try putting into words how much I miss her.

More time has passed and I have finally started training in the shadow arts again. It's pretty hard since I have forgotten most the things I used to know by staying on the farm for so long, but soon I will be ready to leave pop. I have already arranged to get someone to watch and help him, even though he is strongly against it. My longbow precision is now better than it ever was in the past.. I cant wait to use it against some unsuspecting hill giant.. oh that will be a good day.

Soon, not much longer now.. I will finally be ready to head back on the road.
