Jessica Jones. Plot: great, actors: even better. After DareDevil Netflix is leaving Arrow, Flash and Agents of Shield clearly behind. Of course they cater to another public. Well, somehow.

Edit: Sry, wrong topic heh. Hoihe make the title clearer, if it's about youtube videos :)

This is the first episode of the new Syfy show The Expanse, available early. The series itself will start mid-December. I haven't actually seen it yet, but I loved the books it's based on, and the authors did a good job keeping me hyped for the tv series. I'll be watching it myself sometime tonight.

Has there ever been a SyFy show that didn't suuuuuuuuuuuuuuck?
I'll give it a try, but I reserve the right to look down on it until it changes my mind.

After the atrocity that was The Golden Compass movie, His Dark Materials is getting another chance. And it's on BBC.

From the articles and trailers I've seen, it sounds like Syfy is aware they're bad. This is the show they're starting with to try to get back on track, to recapture the magic they had with the Battlestar Galactica reboot and the like. I like to joke that they're so serious about this push for a new direction that they even hired Mike from Breaking Bad to make a cameo so he could appear on the trailer. Anyway I'm aware Battlestar Galactica wasn't everyone's favorite cup of tea, but it's probably one of my all-time favorite shows, so if that's the look they're going for, I like their intentions, at least.

But I'm also biased in my hope that the show succeeds, because one of the writers under James S.A. Corey is my favorite author.

Oh, I forgot about BSG. I didn't like it that much, but the production on it was top notch. Miles ahead of the usual SyFy stuff since then.

It's not the wrong topic, we are hijacking this one!

I'll just use this thread from now on to occasionally dump a number of things I've watched recently or started watching recently (movies, tv shows, documentaries). Which is what a thread named "what I'm watching" should be used for anyway!

The Expanse - saw the first 2 episodes, it's not bad so far.
The Avengers: Age of Ultron - it was sleep inducing. It's no where close to the first movie.
The Martian - not bad. I know some people have complaints about it not being as good as the book, or complaints about the technology, physics etc. but I have not read the book nor do I have any actual knowledge about space travel in general, so for me it was an enjoyable feelgood movie.
Show me a Hero - If you like David Simon's work (Homicide: Life on the Street, The Wire, Generation Kill, Treme) you'll like this one as well. An excellent 6 part miniseries with Oscar Isaac in the lead role.
Sicario - I still have catching up to do with the last year's movies, but so far this has been THE movie of the year for me. Most people would likely call Mad Max as the movie of the year in 2015. but Sicario left a much bigger impression on me. The person who did the soundtrack for this deserves an oscar, it was so masterfully incorporated into the movie.

During my catching up of last years tv shows and movies, I decided to throw in a couple of documentaries that I've heard nothing but praise for.

The Jinx: The Life and Deaths of Robert Durst - an interesting 6 part documentary series. I wasn't overly familiar with Robert Durst's case(s) before seeing it though, so that might have made it more interesting to me.

Making a Murderer - I was brought to the point of enragement towards the american judicial system many times over during the ten 50 minute episodes. At times it was excruciating to watch, and all of this while keeping in mind that the netflix documentary series is probably not overly objective either. If someone was telling this story to me I would have likely told them to piss off and take off their tinfoil hat. After watching the documentary I can't honestly say that I'm convinced one way or another.
