Server first loot - Better loot?

Unread post by Moltrazahn »

For a while now theres been this telling that "the first looting of any chest in the game gives better items/drop chances of items" - The same chests then decline in loot "quality" in the following 9 hour Runtime.

I was wondering if there is any concrete infomation about this?

I think it is an "urban myth." Or, no better loot ever got to me because I got to a dungeon first after reset.

However...what might be the situation is that the loot table works in a manner in which it only produces any 1 item TWICE per Reset, or, the Table itself resets at reset, thus, a Player has a better chance of receiving Loot that computes all the variables at a Reset, but slowly "checks off" those variables as the 9 hour clock ticks.

For example: if a mith plate pops off during a 9 hour session, it WILL NOT pop off again until Reset, no matter what (though it seems more often than not the RIG hiccups and produces 2 of the same wacky item—you will often see mirrored items for sale at Mudd's placed on the same day by different Toons.

This is speculation however because no matter how many times I asked Luna if I could clean up the RIG with a desire to rid it of the stupid crap output that is frustrating and unnecessary, he always refused me. :|

So yeah...there are Epic Empty Ale Steins!!! J/k

Having read the code that controls the loot system, I can say, conclusively, no. It doesn't matter how many times you have looted.

But dont let this be a reason to stop you from investigating. Perhaps someone was refilling chests right after reset. Did this happen during the holidays? ;) ;)

What I see is that the same item may drop multiple times in DIFFERENT dungeons. So for example. One week I was looting pretty heavily I found two +4 magic short bows in a short span but not in the same area but different area. It also seems that the loot generator has tiers that trigger during certain times so basically we are seeing the same stuff repeated from it but at different locations.

Now that we have regular updates and are pressing for more input from those that ACTUALLY play regularly it is improving but like Steve said there needs to be some house cleaning on the tables to remove some of the fodder that is causing only the truly dedicated grinders to get anything of real value.

Coincidence is part of randomness. A lack of coincidence would make the system less random. Right?

Urban Myth.

You have the same chances of looting everything everytime you open the chests.

The only difference is depending on which container you open, from places to places.

I've actually seen this. There must be a nugget of truth in that, as it's odd that the exact same "randomized" item show up on two different characters around the same time. Not to be confused with the auctioneer hiccup, where the same item is shown twice on different pages.

Engine's definition of randomess is a bit skewed as you might have noticed. Moreso, when it comes to multiplayer. I'd wager that there is some truth to random seed being duplicated in certain instances for different characters.

I just think that if loot system revamp ever comes around, it should use SQL random function instead of NWN's, because it is far more reliable than hardcoded NWN stuff. :P

In 5 years I have never seen a watchmans club. Last night I find one and walk to the auctioneer only to see one placed there for sale within 30 minutes.
