Dwarf Cleric
I'm thinking about rolling up a new character when I rejoin the server in a week or so, and so far I've decided to go with a dwarf. Dwarf culture has intrigued me for a while now and I thought it was time to explore it a bit. I've also never been a cleric either, so I'm going that route after hearing all the cleric talk on here lately. With that said, I'm thinking of a martial cleric that isn't so focused on DC spells and relies more on buffs and the occasional healing. I'm just trying to decide at the end if I should take the extra damage reduction or epic spells? So far I'm leaning towards the DR to end me at 9/- DR, but no epic spells. If I should reduce the DR for an epic spell, which should I take? I've been back and forth over Mass Heal.

Re: Dwarf Cleric
I would rethink the 9DR. Clerics get 10dr by casting stonebody or by using potions of stoneskin.
Being a martial cleric you can either up your strength or go for EDM.
Finally dont write off caster clerics. Even clerics with 14STR are decent in melee, they have powerful spells with good DCs, excellent healers and epic spells make sense on them.On top of that the character will have a feeling of being unique since as far as i know there is no other dwarven caster cleric.

Well, I didn't realize they had DR open to them already, so that changes things a bit. I originally chose to add 7 Dwarven defender for the defense the PrC adds with Practiced Spellcaster. Should I rework the character entirely or just my feat/attribute selection?

I have to make clear that the 10dr is a 6sec/CL spell.
I dont know what you have done already, nor what in specific you have in mind for this character. If you give us more details i am sure many will helpcrimsonrain15 wrote:Should I rework the character entirely or just my feat/attribute selection?

Re: Dwarf Cleric
Well, now it seems I've decided to go a different route (build wise anyway) and try and get some decent DC's instead of just buff and smash. I've made a few DC wizards/sorc, is it much different? Any advice to get some decent DC's would be appreciated if not.
Here's what I have so far, but it might be scrapped

I made the build with Mithril Fullplate in mind without having to buff up dex to benefit, if anyone is wondering about the dex. The rest should be somewhat self explanatory.

Re: Dwarf Cleric
- For that specific build if your start attributes are CON16 WIS15 you will save one epic attribute feat.
- The epic DR feats are a waste on this build.
- To be a DC Caster you need Wisdom as high as possible, epic feats, and school focus.
Are you interested in focusing in a group? Implosion the spell that can get the highest DC is evocation, so generally speaking evocation is a good school to focus

Re: Dwarf Cleric
Anymore, at least. There have been numerous amounts of them, I've even played one myself into level 27, back in the day. But, caster clerics lack some customization that arcanes have, and it's not a popular choice even as an aasimar or gray orc.mrm3ntalist wrote:On top of that the character will have a feeling of being unique since as far as i know there is no other dwarven caster cleric.
I would redo your cleric crimsonrain15. I would take into account to not abuse practiced spellcaster, and think a bit on the Hierophant class, both changes not too far off.
I would consider the hospitaler class, if it fits you. The only advantage clerics get with more class levels is after all turning, and dwarves are typically poor at it (not to mention, most undead have turn resistance or blanket immunity to it on this server, which makes turning even less useful).
Something like 10 Cleric, 10 Hospitaler, 10 Hierophant could be nice. In the chance that the Hierophant update is drawn out and doesn't come into the game in 2016, it's all about abusing PSC with 27 cleric, 3 dragonslayer, or 26 cleric, 4 warpriest. These work as caster clerics, but even melee clerics benefit from a higher CL as spells last longer (particularly the dragonslayer variant).

Re: Dwarf Cleric
I think this is what I'm going to go with for now. Its a rough draft, of course, and RP may alter it in the future, but this is the idea now. Any tweaking advice is welcome also.

Edit: The hospitaler class seemed interesting, but not quite what I was looking for and I didn't think Dragon Warrior would make much sense... I couldn't find any information on the hierophant class though to make a decision either way. This build has a few less AC, but I think it'll be ok. I'll probably test it out this weekend.

Re: Dwarf Cleric
That is definitely a possibility to be looked into... once its released. I'll probably just RCR and go back or see about reducing my level (whichever gives me the most XP of course), assuming I've reached a point where I wouldn't be able to take the class before they release it.

Re: Dwarf Cleric
As it stands, with 20 Cleric and 10 Hierophant, my CL will be 29, correct? Is it worth taking practiced spellcaster for the 1 CL gain?

Re: Dwarf Cleric
I thought 1st level of Hierophant reduced it, or is it just spell progression? Or did I completely misread it?

Re: Dwarf Cleric
Heirophant has full caster progression. With spell power 3 you could actually have CL 33.
