Permitting (Quarter)staves in Cities
So this is something that has annoyed me for a long time. Could quarterstaves please be added as the single exception to the 'no weapons drawn in cities' rule & their corresponding guard scripts? Or is that too difficult a request?
My Mystran, Aeili, has a staff that grants 3 bonus spell slots that I pretty much never fill because I know as soon as I go through the next 2 transitions there will be a town where I am guard-moded into having to put said staff somewhere other than in her hands!
I'm sure there are other wizards who use the Wizard's Focusing staff that get irked by losing their spell slots after every second transition. And this would prevent the foolishness of the blind man being arrested from repeating itself. . .

Surely you would permit an old man his walking stick?
Seriously though, I agree totally. Even though I was a sorc and it wasn't as bad as having to pick my spells every time, it was still frustrating.

I've been on the opposite end of this spectrum. Quarterstaves are just as deadly, or moreso, then a sword in the right hands, and are wholly different from a walking stick, even if they can serve the same function.

Although I support Tsidenku's point, I do wish to confirm Holy man's point too!

Re: Permitting Quarterstaves in Cities
I never disputed the point that some people are superb quarterstaff fighters, or some wizards use staves to harness their magical power.
My point is that with all the hundreds of people coming in and out of the city all day, are the guards really going to tell every old man, woman, blind beggar, vagabond-with-knapsack, farmer, traveller, etc., to leave their walking sticks at the front gate because they are 'weapons'?
Why not just a warning?
Flaming Fist Guard: "Oi! Cause any trouble 'round 'ere wid tha' stick o'yers and I'll be stickin it up yer nether region. Got it? Gud."

Walking stick / quarterstaves same thing basically... ...and most people who walk long distances through any kind of hilly terrain use a walking stick of some sort. Especially older people, i think they should be allowed.

Maybe in real life a quarter staff is more dangerous. Welcome to dungeons and dragons. Make a quarter staff weapon master and pit him against a falchion weapon master. How many times will the staff guy win out of ten?
Wirg to Pug: "Iz lat dun?"
Pugratix to a snarky militia man: "Mmmm. Not yet. I will live for hundreds of years and be heralded as one of the greatest forces of destruction on the face of the world. The only thing you can destroy is the outhouse."

I agree with NeOmega
There is a big difference between the quarter staff and a wizards staff.
Quarter staves or "bo staves", are a melee weapon used by super ninjas (such as Napoleon Dynamite) to kick your arse.
A wizard staff is a walking stick for long beards and/or sickly pasty faced finger wagglers.
Allow the wizard staff's in cities - how do you expect those flimsy casters to support themselves- they are tipping over, all over the place!
Bo staves or any mop or broom handles need to be kept out of site because a big stick in your hand is sooooooo much more dangerous then walking around with sheathed sword at your waist.

Simple poll added for 21 days!
I also want to say this: if you use the bonus spell slot daggers. . . too bad!

Re: Permitting (Quarter)staves in Cities
I'd be up for allowing quarterstaffs in cities for two reasons:
- Bonus spell slots
- Quarterstaves aren't particularly dangerous in NWN2
I must confess though, that it's not particularly high on my priority list

if you wanna run around with big sticks then you need to overthrow your governments and replace them with an arcane council... like they did in sshamath
otherwise no... big stick dangerous
