Re: Permitting (Quarter)staves in Cities
I'm surprised nobody have brought this up already.. All the trouble it may cause....
But yeah, seriously, I voted yes for roleplay purpose, sure it can be done through emote, but I've always been the sort of player that like visual. For example, I try to make an actual physical emote to everything my character do. So, having a staff in hand, for the simple purpose of a walking stick to a traveller, old person or a symbol of holyness to me means alot. I understand also it might be extra work through the script, but if it can be done, I support this

I don't really have a strong opinion on this, but to play devil's advocate on the issue: monks are required to tie their thumb to their belt upon entering a city. This is a bit of an extreme measure.
Staves can contain all sorts of magical properties, even if they appear to be a walking stick. The right staff in the wrong hands could be very troubling for the guards.
As I said at the start though, this isn't really a strong opinion of mine.

Not to mention a metagaming of the NPCs guessing because you don't have a weapon on, that means you're a monk. I am voting for it because it is the time when people walked everywhere... ..and go hiking, almost everybody has a walking stick. It is simply more realistic that most travelers who go long distances, especially if there is elevation gain, will use a walking stick or two.

It would then reason that all Large weapons be allowed to be "out" in Cities that have a weapon/jail script.
Cause I'm still trying to figure out where my toon hides that Halberd!!!

You don't hand it to a stranger when you enter the city? Or store it in an extra dimensional space? Well, I guess you're going to jail then.Steve wrote:Cause I'm still trying to figure out where my toon hides that Halberd!!!

I don't hear the guards asking folks to turn in their staves!

Re: Permitting (Quarter)staves in Cities
Hi players
We have considered this and we do not feel making an exception for quarterstaves (the weapons) is something we are going to ask the Dev team to look into right now.
While the weapons might be a slippery slope, we are considering instead asking for a walking stick VFX prop to be added, or a holdable. But these would be low priority things to ask about once the current large update project is out of the way.
Thankyou for the civil discussion.

What about a staff VFX prop (like the wine bottle, shovel, rake) for those who like to RP using a walkingstick or knapsack? That wouldn't be seen as a weapon by the arrest script.

Lotrik leans on his sword all the time, can he bring it in town, too?
Aurelien Amon: Human fighter, member of the Whitewood Vanguard, Hoarite
Lotrik: Not a wise Genasi, probably stronger than you tho, a master of longswords. Fully retired

No, it is clearly a weapon. It has a pointy end and everything. Someone could lose an eye.Bobthehero wrote:Lotrik leans on his sword all the time, can he bring it in town, too?

Re: Permitting (Quarter)staves in Cities
Not really, no.
Unless someone was to jump and impale himself on the blade. The pointy end's going to be a good 2.60 meters high. Bit less if you stick with the IG animation, still way above eye level.
People seem to RP like a character is swinging his weapon around when he's just holding it. And they also assume whoever use holds the weapon to be an idiot who can't control his weapon.
Edit: And you could argue that greatswords should be allowed in cities because of their size and the fact that people carried them resting on their shoulder, usually point down, not sheated (especially not on their back)

Do I sense another poll coming?
You'd also be surprised by the reactions of some villagers too.
