Shei Bio

Unread post by PJtheFey »

First Name: Shei
Last Name: Kil (pronounced Keel)

Appearance:

A short skim woman with vibrant lightning colored eyes, and skin the murky blue-gray of a rising storm. Unlike most mages, Shei prefers robes that are suited more for comfort than ceremony.

Race: Genasi
Age: 26
Height: 4'11
Weight: Skinny - Proportionate to Height
Eyes: Light green (almost yellow)
Hair: Pale Blue with Dark Streaks(per the NWN2 model options)
Facial Hair Style: None

Personality Profile:

Shei's personality shifts between seeming aloof and philosophical, to celebrating simple joys in life. She also has a closet activist side of her personality that occasionally raises its head. Although she has a naturally good heart, her years in the Underdark have tainted her outlook with an edge of cynicism.

General Health: Relatively healthy, could stand to eat more as she is quite skinny
Deity: Agnostic (Her mother followed Akadi, but I'd like to have her learn about a surface diety in game. )
Initial Alignment: Neutral
Profession: Former wizard apprentice, student, budding adventurer.
Base Class & Proposed Development: Wizard... I'm currently planning a Wizard/Bard/Stormsinger/Frostmage build, but practically only wizard is decided.

Habits/Hobbies: Learning new languages, exploring
Languages: Undercommon, Common, Auran, Aquan, Draconic, Ignan, Terran, Elven, Arcane
Weapon of Choice: A well placed spell.

Background:

[[ I've decided to answer this using the character's voice so that I can get used to playing her. ]]

Where are you from?

"As far as I know I was born on the outskirts of Sshamath, but, as with all infants, I have no personal memory of this. The real adventurer title in my family belongs to my mother, who once lived on the surface but was captured by the foul Drow elves and brought into the Underdark. I don't envy her suffering, and can only admire her courage, as she was the one who made her way to Sshamath upon realizing that she was with child so that I might have a better future. She never gave me a blow by blow retelling of the tale of her escape as it were, and I suspect that it is because she didn't want me to feel guilty for her sacrifices. Still, I'm not blind, and they say that Ssamath is a kinder city due to trade. "

"I'm not blind." You say that as if you have a grudge.

"Hah!" The sound is filled with contempt and sarcasm. "Why don't you try living in a place that's filled with cursed elves that, every time they meet you, act as though you are already their slave. You know the feeling you get when a lusty human stares at you mentally peeling off your robes, and wondering what they could do to you and your exotic skin behind closed doors? Well, with the Drow it's like that, but ten times worse, because it's like they are trying to decide what kind of painting they'd like to make with your entrails to appease their dark goddess. Perhaps, if you're lucky they will see your elemental nature, and start plotting how you could be useful to destroy one of their enemies. It's just a fact of life in the Underdark. Who wants to be a resident when half the (bloodthirsty) population resents you for it? I guess it's better than being a slave.

Seriously though, cursed elves aside, a person can feel when something isn't right, and the wind doesn't belong in a jar. I've never seen the surface, but that doesn't mean that I haven't heard stories or speak their language. When I was little my mom used to tell me stories about these things called trees, and the fair folk who lived within. I'd ask her about what was above the trees, and she'd laugh and speak of space so far up above that no one could see the ceiling. There were no lizards prowling with their sticky little toes on the tops of caverns looking to eat you. Instead there were creatures she called falcons, and robins with feathery wings that carried them into the sky. I think... I'd like to see it. No... I'm meant to see it."

What was it like growing up?

"Aside from all the tails of mysterious plants and non-reptilian, or rodent flying creatures, mom was pretty serious about my education. We, or rather Mum, didn't come all the way to Sshamash for nothing. Not only was it a place where we could live 'freely,' but as a thriving center of trade, it provided opportunities for her to return to the surface. As soon as I began talking, I learned our racial language as well as important trade tongues that were common both to the world below and above. After that, she taught me how to speak what she called "magical languages," that would later aid my wizard training. By the age of thirteen I was casting my first cantrips with the help of her training, and once I became old enough Mum wanted me to enroll at the mage school. Her reasons, I think, were two fold. On the surface, she said that if I became a competent Wizard I could be hired to guard caravans, some of which might one day lead to the world above where I could then defect and establish a life in my rightful homeland. I think however the less optimistic side of her realized the social status of being a university trained mage. Why less optimistic you say? Life below is hard. All I've been raised to want is a chance to live on the surface again, but with her having lived under the drow, only to enter another city where we were considered second class citizens, I think part of the hope she had began to die. Eventually, contrary to her words, I think she had to accept that she or I may never see the sky again."

Where is your Mom now?

After I started my formal education, she too worked as a caravan guard. It paid well enough to care for us, but one month she left and never came back. The Illithid got her, or so I have been told. I tried to find her but, having not even finished my schooling at that point, there wasn't much that I could do to find her. It's been years now, and I've come to accept that I'll never see her again. The best I can do is continue my studies and hope to find myself in a position to make her dream, our dream, a reality. She always said that it was possible to live in a place where you didn't have to spend every day looking over your shoulder for the knife waiting to be stuck in your back. It's hard to believe its real, but if found I think I could come to like living in a place like that.

Goals:

- Escape the Underdark and live on the surface. (Realistically I plan to have this done on the first day of game play, as her in game story takes off when she's placed in a new world on the surface.)
- Establish a reliable coterie on the surface to depend on (possibly join a guild)
- Become a powerful mage and adventurer
- See the sky

Possible Plot-Hook Ideas and Misc Facts:

- She could be a good diplomatic candidate as she develops due to her exposure to a great many languages, and thereby the cultures associated with those languages.

Update

Shei has been IC now, but She wasn't started from the UD. A DM ported to her to a place near the UD but on the surface, and Bella along with half a dozen others rescued her from there while looking for a caravan. We RPed it as if she finally signed on to a duegar caravan headed to replenish supplies of surface goods like alcohol. she became a deserter only to be knocked out by a trap while trying to get to the surface solo. The pcs found her body, healed her and that was the start of Shei's icness.

She was told IC that most surface folk wouldn't take kindly to people from the UD so she has been telling people she comes from Koryo - her mothers homeland which she grew up hearing stories about. This allows her public RP to be UD light per DM Narshe's suggestion. Shei has Zero desire to go back to where she came from.

In the next couple days I will update her history with post arrival details based on IC stuff that has happened. She's already becoming involved with Isabella and the Candlekeep crowd.
