Half-Orc Wizard Help
I really want to play a half-orc wizard. Not sure of the viability of caster wizards at higher levels here since i never seem to get there, know how to play a gish. just looking for options and suggestions. And yes, I am aware they suck statwise, favored classwise, and rp wise

You're dc's aren't going to be good, but I'd say as much INT and maybe get the spell focus line for your favorite school to help mitigate the poor INT. Also make sure to take spell casting prodigy at level 1

Re: Half-Orc Wizard Help
I was thinking playing a DC caster was probably right out. Maybe gish, or blaster?
Edit: or a summoner, or palemaster.

Dont be discouraged.
An Orc or HOrc will only be down by 1 DC from their human counterparts.
You can get a DC oriented mage from a HOrc. And those folks who abused Practiced Spellcaster by having a caster level 29 and taking it, and having a CL 33... well that is over. So you could develop a pure mage caster and be up to par to other mages, just not shadow adepts or Red Wizards.
My Orc wizard actually dominated a higher level wizard than himself. Dominated, as in the spell. So it is very viable.

Anybody have an idea for PRcs or level splits for a half-orc on bgtscc? I have pretty much only played fighters and warlocks for the last few years

Wiz/archmage/frost mage sounds fun...turn all your spells in to cold spells...

Archmage and Frost mage dont have a good synergy. Mastery of elements does not work with piercing coldchad878262 wrote:Wiz/archmage/frost mage sounds fun...turn all your spells in to cold spells...
Wizard10/palemaster10/Bloodmagus10 would fit a half-orc perfectly RP wise. It will be good defensively ( High AC, high HP, immunities ), strong pale master summons and high enough CL to make up for the loss of INT because of race.
Specialise in necromancy ( school specialization and epic school focus ) and take advantage of the great necromancy spells on each level. Vampiric feast should be a must.
EDIT: Here is teh build - http://nwn2db.com/build/?235033
It was made in a way to acquire full PM as soon as possible in order to get the critical immunoty and to use the pm summons as early as possible for easier grinding. If you spread the PM levels more you can save more skill points and use them on craft alchemy or on disguise when it goes in. Personally i would do that.
The empty feat on lvl29 is epic ruin, Starting con should be 16 ( on bg halforcs get +1 on CON. You get another +2con from BM and +4 from bears for a wooping 22CON )
The numbers should be 29+spell level for Necro spell (38DC on Wail 36 on fingers ), 46AC, 370hp, 32CL with bloodseeking spell on.

That is a cool build. I have never really played a non-gish wizard in NWN2, how do you kill things? Don't you run out of spells. Using summons?

Re: Half-Orc Wizard Help
mrm3ntalist, I think you have to use the blood letting as well to get to 32 CL with that level split.
You are CL29 starting. Loss of 4 CL with PM and 1 CL with BM.
But yeah that is a very solid build, and beefy since you will autostabilize, have a huge amount of HP, and while you are recovering, your summons should be helping you out until you get back on your feet.
As far as spells running out... use the buffing spells on the summons, then you will still have like 10+ spells for damage. You'll be fine.

I suppose I could go gish of some type as well. I guess I don't trust vancian casting (and look at me wanting to play a wizard!) because i am not sure how you last without being able to blast if you don't have groups much. Also, a gish might lend itself to less "evil" half-orc roleplay, could find more opportunities to rp as part of a faction

Extend Spell, as many buffs as you have spell slots. Even caster wizards are gishes while grinding. Although this server has Reserve Feats, which gives a casting option (essentially a weaker Eldritch Blast of varying types that you can pick, which scales to the highest level spell of the element the feat uses).Kanada wrote:I suppose I could go gish of some type as well. Sleep is also rather powerful at low levels (except at the graveyard). AOE spells are good once you get them if you have the AC/Concealment/Mirror Images to safely gather up a bunch of mobs around you and nuke them all down at once. It's quick and efficient, but rather risky. Summons do decently if buffed, especially since they last a respectable amount of time on this server.
I can't really speak for epic levels, that's not an area where I have much experience.
Also, at first level, pick up the Backpack of the Hearty from Maltz. That extra 10 hp is a godsend for the early wizard levels.

Re: Half-Orc Wizard Help
you could use one of the reserve spell feats too... Use your buffed up summon and then just save a high level spell for the reserve RTA of your choice. Yes they are Underpowered in high levels, but they also never run out so if you have a strong summon buffed up you should be fine with doing a bit less damage.

Re: Half-Orc Wizard Help
I had thought about maybe waiting for the thaumaturge change to go in to make all Summons count for the level 5, and maybe go with a conjuration wizard instead of necromancy.
