Goroth Druum: The Black Notes

Journal: The Black Notes

Image
The journal itself looks like a heave, leather-covered book, with a symbol on it, made of iron. Symbol represents a snake and a skull. It was one of few empty tomes, which Goroth took from his father corpse. And he decided to use this one as his journal, to write here about his travels.

Entry 1

*Page torn*
Curses upon this sun! I spent a few hours in tent of some local, which left somewhere. Only after this i can write again. My eyes are still hurt. Do not know, how much longer it will be possible for me to remain on surface.
I decided to use one of the books of my father Olgoth for my personal writings: old fool should be useful even after his death. Perhaps, when I will unite hordes of my race under one banner, this book will bee a part of the history of my people, making others fear only a mentioning of it.
So, I finally reached a place, that locals call "Soubar". The first thing I noticed, it is that no one tried to kill me on sight, and i can endure tolerate their suspicious looks on me for a time.
I observed the area, and found nothing to do here: my supplies are coming to an end, and i see no possibility to safely kill some local, or rob him for food. Therefore, i should move somewhere, where i can earn some gold.
It looks like it is a lucky day for me: i found a caravaneer, who just wanted to depart, and he agreed to take me with him. Old man demanded fifty gold from me, and to protect him as well! Yet, he was easily scared, when i took my helmet off, and instantly agreed to make his price lower.
I am getting bored, while this ride. Perhaps, I could use some sleep, since I am tired. When i was sustained by a demon, it was not a problem. And I hope to fix that soon...

Entry 2

Nothing interesting happened during this travel. Merchant said, that his route lies trough Roaring Shores. A place, full of "open-minded" people, which i should visit for sure.
And here I am, sitting in local tavern. A lovely place, I must say: it was an easy thing to make some gold on brawling bets. And I bet on myself, of course. Strange, but few of these fools actually tried to beat me. I doubt that their crushed bodies will survive this night.
People here are talking about a place, named Bladur's Gate. They say, that Gates itself, and all region around is an interesting place, full of opportunities.
Where are opportunities - there are people. I will easily manage some of them to serve me, or perhaps I will start a bloodshreds for my own amusement. Anyway, I need to make a profit, unless I want to end up like killing people here, or in some town, when I will be out of food and water again. My equipmentalso takes a lot, to be upholded in usable shape.
It is set: I will board a ship, that will take me on Gate's borders in two days.

Entry 3

We docked in some cave, not far from the city. It is time for me to explore the local lands.

It is almost impossible to write under the sun! I had to return here, in cave. I guess, no one minds aganist me beign here. Unless he wants to be drown in his own blood.
I was attacked by bandits in first hours of my wandering there. Weak humans. But i can say, they are tasty ones: it was foolish decision to waste my supplies, when i could save them for later, and eat some flesh. Sadly, human flesh becomes not aviable for eating quite quickly after their death, otherwise i could stock it somewhere.
I reached some forest with people in there. Surprisingly, but there not tried to burn me alive, and even gladly agreed to start a bloodbath: forest is full of lizardfolk, and I could use these humans as a temporary servants, with a dwarf, tagged along them.

Entry 4

Eventually, my tavels led me in some ruins, infested by a kobolds, nearby the Balur's Gate. It is far enough from the bridge, so i could move unnoticed by the guards. I cannot fight entire army of Flaming Fist. Yet.
In the deep part of this ruins, I found a room, that belonged to some sorcerer or an alchemist. Most thing left untouched, despite owner left long ago. According to one of Duran's books, I can use my knowledge of alchemy, that i learned from my foolish father, to brew a special elixir, that will affect me permamently. It is mentioned about entire sect of "heretic" warriors. who learned how to use secrets of alchemy for their own benefits. If they could, I will be able to do it as well... The door is heavy enough to hold that creature back outside for a time. Because I need to be caraeful with ingredients. The book also describes some oils for covering blades. I should try to brew them as well. This place deserved to be mentioned, and I must return here, to brew new oils and elixirs: the book describes many, yet they cannot be drank at once.

Tonight i woke up with my heart beating intense... The elixir, Duran described, seems to start it's work. I can't say about feeling bad, even more: it feels like adrenaline. My eyes are in pain, because I have not slept yet. Seems like my body refuses to rest for now.
I decided to hunt some more bandits, and some of them ran away with fear... But before the fight evenn started. I do not know, at that moment, I literally felt my blood boiling. Is it effect of an elixir, or something more?

Entry 5

I can rarely sleep, and feeling my self on edge. Still, I somehow feel tired. It is hard to describe. Some sort of intoxication, maybe. I continue to take new doses of elixirs, as book suggests.

Traveling south, not far from a town of Beregost, led me to a goblin cave. I met some humans, that i already know. They do not even deserve to be mentioned. I were starving, and they informed me, that there is a cave, not far from here, full of goblins.
The feast was excellent, but I must to write about more interesting event: the cave was a sort of mine, connected with some ancient ruins. While exploring one of it's part, i felt it again: my blood boiled again, and somehow Shadow Mastiff arrived from nowhere. And he was not agressive to me, and followed me instead. Such clever creature knew, who my enemies are, and teared them apart. He spilled much blood before his sudden disappear.
