Love the new feat idea! Rangers could -really- crank up that DC if they wanted to against favored enemies.
Could something similar be made for shield bashing with Heavy and/or Tower shields once things work out for this feat, I wonder?

I never play with shields. Except in my new class of genasi builds. Two handed weapons get rid of the threat faster.Atlas wrote:
But then two handed weapons are inferior to one handed weapons in this game unfortunately. And you need to play a very specific power niche combination of classes to make them work.

The problem with two-handed weapons is that they lack any statistical representation of the benefit they're actually supposed to have: reach. IMO two-handed weapons should carry an AC benefit just by themselves, with more AC the longer the weapon (though they should lose the AC if using Monkey Grip and a shield).
And bludgeoning weapons should have some AB or damage benefit against heavy armor. Heavy Armor Specialization for example should be 3/bludgeoning, not 3/-. Weapons like maces and warhammers were designed for fighting against armored opponents and were far superior to swords for that purpose.

Hey! Good to see another fan of the HEMA youtubers.
Giving weapon types specialize bonusi does sound like a way to make otherwise uninteresting types more useful.
Spears, save for being difficult to carry around in everyday use, are amongst the best weapons one can get.

The game has reach. Use a large weapon, and stand directly behind a party member who's engaged with a monster. You can hit the monster from there, while someone with a medium weapon cannot. The same applies for large monsters, who can hit you from a certain range while you need to move closer to hit back. It's not much, but its there at leastRhifox wrote:The problem with two-handed weapons is that they lack any statistical representation of the benefit they're actually supposed to have: reach.
True, but then again they're worse against unarmored foes and one would have to implement that too then. It would be ideal if armor provided damage reduction and bludg weapons bypassed some but did less damage than blades in general. Oh well, NWN3 maybeRhifox wrote: And bludgeoning weapons should have some AB or damage benefit against heavy armor. Heavy Armor Specialization for example should be 3/bludgeoning, not 3/-. Does it have reach? I use a spear on Tarina and I find I can't hit anything unless I close to point blank with it. If someone is in front of me, my character will try to run around them before she can get a hit in. This is backed up by the NWN2 wiki, which also says that weapon size has no effect on the weapon's reach and that all weapons have to get to the same distance. The only pnp-style game I've played where I remember reach actually being implemented was Pillars of Eternity, where I could position a tank in a doorway and have my spear user stand behind them and still get hits in.
And yes, I agree with what you say about weapon damage profiles. Slashing weapons should be best against unarmored and lightly armored opponents, piercing weapons best against medium armor (thrusting through the rings), and bludgeoning against heavy.

Reach is a quality of specific items: Glaive, Guisarme, Lance, Longspear, Ranseur, Spiked Chain and Whip.
None of these exist in NWN2.

In PnP, yes. Realistically speaking, DnD handles reach and other weapon properties rather poorly, overall.

Hrm, alright. To be fair, I've only tested the greatsword on reach and it has reach. I assume the other large weapons do as well. Reach is evident with monsters. Like, hill giants can hit you at a certain range where you can't hit back, so you've to step up right next to them.

Spears have longer reach than most weapons. Reach does exist in the NWN games. But its often not noticeable, since you just run up to the target and start smashing.
It determines who attacks first. Sometimes it lets you hits through / over certain placeables and doors. Portcullis type doors is one - I think.
