Blood Draught

Unread post by Tenebrosity »

Hello,

The title say it, my issue is with the feat "Blood Draught" from the Blood Magus PRC. if I understand, the feat is supposed to work as if it was a "Brew Potion" except the result can't be traded. I have been trying to store 2th circle spells into a magic bottle (Which is stated in the description to cast a spell up to the 3th circle and it should work with a price to magically pay) and it tells me that I don't have the feat required for it.
Hidden: show
Blood Draught
Type of Feat: Class Ability
Prerequisites: Blood Magus 4th level
Specifics: The blood magus learns how to store spells of up to 3rd level in his own blood. Effectively, he gains the Brew Potion feat using an alternative medium. All rules, XP costs, and expenses that apply to Brew Potion also apply to this ability, with the following exceptions. Once "brewed", a blood draught remains in circulation within the magus's body. The maximum number of draughts stored at one time is equal to his levels of blood magus plus his Constitution score, but if he is slain, they are all immediately ruined.
Use: Selected

Note: These are effectively potions but they cannot be traded.
Am I doing it wrong? If yes, I'd like to know what is the issue :) If not, then that is something that should be looked into, if not already.

Regards,
Tenebrosity.

You activate the blood draught ability and cast a spell. Then it is stored on your inventory. There is no need for empty bottles

Question, Why is it that scarifications are removed upon use?

The mechanical reason is that it would be too powerful if they didnt.

I see it as those scars need to be fuelled with magic, so once it's used, it need to be done again... At least, that would be the logical RP reason, I believe..

So instead of writing on your flesh for a temporary, single-use spell... why not have a level cap of the scar and have it usable 1 time per day with a max of 3 scars at a maximum circle of 5 or 6?

Or, ONE scar, usable 3 times per day? maximum circle 5 or 6?

Do you realise how powerful what you are asking is? Scar gets full CL so they are like a spell but better, since they are uninteruptable and cast faster. Is there anyother class ability that allows you to cast spells so many times?

In conclusion, BM is the most powerful arcane PRC. Scars play a part in this. Nothing will be done for that PRC to empower it further.

If it's so overpowered, why not replace Blood Draught with another blood-related and blood-like feat?
-Maybe one to give/steal blood from another?
-Maybe one that uses your own blood as a shield (DR 10/magic for 10+(Blood Mage levels) rounds)?
-Maybe one that can hurl your own blood at a target for pretty good damage?
-Or maybe one that can bend the blood of a target to temporarily be dominated?
