Nomster wrote:I think many have forgot that this server has been running for over five years. People come back to it, likely due to its simplicity. To therefore change the mechanics so drastically is of course going to upset people. How can it not, when things have been a certain way for years and the whole server has been built around that way? A lot of the upset is likely due to the 'unknown' and uncertainty. I myself am not that upset, I am mostly just a small sigh. I am at loss for what to do with my character. Sure, I could increase CL but what is the cap for Dispels going to be...? I feel like I cannot really /plan/ without knowing that and I think I need to know what happens to Bardic Knowledge and Lore overall. Do I need to put qualification Lore all into Lore:Arcana or... urgh. I do not even know. I will just wait.

I think with things as they are now, an Assassin's and Blackguard's spellbook are entirely useless. Forget about relying on wands in the epics. I am not sure I can think of one epic area which does not have Dispels added..? UMD should be a viable option without getting 10 Dispels thrown when walking around a corner. Maybe not a "win" skill but it should be viable. Mixing classes should be possible without needing 27-28 CL. Many prestige classes are not so generous with spell progression.

Maybe too much focus on PnP. NWN2 is not PnP. It cannot be PnP.
You're right, it can't. And I don't think it was ever intended to... that is, if the hundred or so times I've read or heard a DM over the last 4+ years say "This isn't pen and paper" is to be believed.

And as much as I want to complain about how hard the changes hit my main character, at least as far as low CL, wands, and UMD are concerned(he is literally doomed in events now... I think), and after reading Nomsters shpeel, I feel absolutely terrible for players who have been playing non-30 CL casters long term. And while there may be some validity to the argument that dispel now works "properly", the AI most definitely does NOT work properly. Mind you, I'm just some guy whose character is sitting on about 200k worth of wands that were crafted by level 30 mages/priests(plus about another 100k worth of consumables) which will now be stripped by a single CR 12 orc shaman! Sounds kind of fishy to me, but what the hell do I know about dispel working properly??

"Aeili... these wands you crafted for me seem to now be rather defective all of a sudden. You may wish to consult the weave or Mystra when you get a moment. And... erm, would asking for a partial refund be out of the question?", he makes a grabby hand motion towards her.

Sounds like FUN to me. Oh, the joyous RP opportunities that await... /sarcasm

Anyhoo, As I said to another player today, and IMHO, the top three things that need to be addressed ASAP are:

A. remove the obstruction system. Gone. Bludgeon it with a hammer. Kill it. Burn it. Then flush it down the toilet.
B. Adjust the AI so that dispel spamming is corrected.
C. ... work on all the other broken feats/classes/spells.

My 2 cents to make things more "fun" for all.

I've been coming back to BGTSCC every now and again since the server first opened years ago. I never had as much fun as I am now with the latest updates. It's buggy but I can live with that. I can't wait to see what will come next.

Are you having fun?

Yeah I like most things

If so, how?

Well, RP is still RP and I like it very much. There is a group of people I enjoy playing with so for me it is not a real problem to find RP.
Also, after the bugs are fixed, things sorted out, the update will bring new content I guess.
And my main got a slightly "buffed", yay?

If not, why not?
-

What do you like/dislike about the update?

Like: New things, bugfixes

Dislike: Bugs. Really bad ones. I had to wait about 2 days (about 5-6 hours standing in the Nexus), so I could properly RcR (good old archmage feat). Also RWoT's second prohibited school is still broken.
And languages. Somehow I have six "arcane" language, and I could choose three more? Heh? (I had arcane, common + 6 other before the update)

On a scale of 1 to 10, where would you currently rate things on the personal fun-o-meter?

A solid 7 I guess

The orphanage thing is not the only thing that's going on, but it appears like it is because it's the only thing that seems to get posted. Only a few DMs actually report their events on the DM forum, as well. I know there's a ton of Ebon Blade stuff happening, there was the Crow archer thing, there was Toecutters, and there's a spider thing going on in Sharptooth. But none of that except Toecutters has really gotten posted about here.

I will agree that I'd like to see some adventure. But I'm still new to the server and still getting ICly and OOCly established so I don't want to presume anything. I would imagine though that the DMs are still kind of taking a breather after last year's metaplot, which seems like it was pretty huge.
I know DM Dialectic has put effort in trying to get people to post in that forum when it was put up. Most people dont enjoy forum rp, I'm not a fan of it myself, but if things truly are happening then it should be more represented in those forums. I don't read the Elfsong Tavern or the dm forums anymore when I want to get a perception of our world, I go to the campaign forums. I'm not trying to bash anyone here, I'm just saying, we should put more effort into starting things up and seeing them through both player and dm side.

It's come to a point where it feels like the server has turned into a social network more than an emulation of a D&D game. I swear at this point people just roll their eyes and say "oh look, that guy wants to become a demigod some day. What a nerd.", making any sort of idea of GREATNESS in this kind of environment seem unattractive. People seem to have stopped playing challenging, willful and overall interesting characters, or they do so very rarely. This kind of ruins immersion for me.
I have been playing my rather infamous character for more than two years now, and I am sorry to say "what a nerd" is what I get when I'm lucky (some refuse to even RP at all). People began to play "shy amateur 3" and "dirty peasant 2", caring to show everyone how utterly unremarkable they are, lest the "Holier-Than-Thou" RP elitists come tell them IC and OOC how disrespectful of the setting they are, and subsequently hiding behind OOC etiquette and PvP rules to get away with the stuff they say IG.

I've got a rather thick skin so I have no trouble keeping at it, but I certainly don't blame anyone for not wanting to deal with that crap on a daily basis, when the game should be fun for every RP archetype. Only a couple of dozens of active old timers (like you) are mature enough to handle that kind of conflict, or even relish it (as it should be).

But don't worry: plenty of people will come here, and cry because there's "lack of conflict"...RRROFL!!
I understand that reaction people have. They focus solely on the arrogance of those type of characters, forgetting that the arrogance is supposed to be a byproduct of that characters experiences, interests and abilities. Most people dislike arrogance IRL, so their reaction to it in a game can be a bit on the strong side. Hell when I meet an arrogant power hungry character in game, my first thought is usually "WHO THE %*#$ DOES THIS GUY THINK HE IS!?" :D . Ofc if every character was like that it would be kind of silly. I guess it's all about avoiding the extremes, as it is with most things. But even without the classic power hungry arrogant mouthy aholes... where are the knights in shining armor? Or similar archetypes? IDK maybe BG doesn't provide a platform to RP those type of characters anymore? Or maybe people feel as if those things are "overdone". But to me they are essential to a fantasy experience. Even the grittiest of the gritty fantasy stories have those who rise above the regular peasant, one way or the other.

On bgtscc? ...no, otherwise ... yes

If so, how?
... to paraphrase The Bard, "There are more servers in heaven and earth, than are dreamt of in your philosophy."

I'm not having fun on bgtscc because my server account was unexpectedly banned back on January 17th.

What do you like/dislike about the update?
I've not played with any of the updates yet, but if the ban is lifted, I will probably log on and check things out.

On a scale of 1 to 10, where would you currently rate things on the personal fun-o-meter?

No. I dont log on anymore.

If so, how?

void.

If not, why not?

Just got tired. I am a child of consumption, and we are many.

What do you like/dislike about the update?

Seems interesting. Maybe I'll try it out one day just for kicks.

On a scale of 1 to 10, where would you currently rate things on the personal fun-o-meter?

Zero. But I had tons of fun in the past. Then I became a better RPer and it was time to move on to better pastures. No amount of interesting and well thought technical updates will let me stomach 50 % of the player base run by me without saying anything.

Those archtypes do exist and are out there. The problem is that it often feels like there's little incentive for the various different types to interact with each other. I'm around several proper priesty/knights in shining armor types, but I've not had much opportunity to RP with much in the way of other types. I more or less avoid FAI as a rule except for when I'm by necessity passing through, and that seems like the only place where different groups tend to run across each other right now.

The best RP, in my eyes, is when there is conflict and things at stake, raised (IC) emotions. I feel the current state of the metaplot, as a time of recovery, seems like it is limiting the amount of such conflict and significant interaction. There's fun stuff going on, but it all seems very isolated. Guilds and groups are off doing their own things, with the occasional but rare interaction with other guilds.

It feels like we're in that time period between campaigns.

This is just the perception I have as a new player.

Are you having fun?

Yes

If so, how?

The new spell abilities that come in make me feel that my ranger class has some interesting options and from what I have heard and seen there are plenty of other great new spells some of which have fantastic and interesting RP potential.

New skills When working correctly I can't wait to see how players use this in game and witness as characters become more diverse such as experts in arcane or experts in nature.

New Classes While I am sure there are power builds out there who can't wait for the new classes to come in and see what whacky crazy build comes up I like the RP opportunities that come from new classes, I know some people have mentioned prestige classes that I had never heard of like Bladesinger and the RP concept of these classes in my opinion awesome!

If not, why not?

So lets talk about the negatives that are bothering me at the moment.

The new disguise system abused like crazy, every time I've logged in what I have seen are players who have named their characters ridiculously with half orc raider or DM bloodlust and seeing that stuff in the Nexus the moment I log in makes me roll my eyes, it really knocks the wind out of my sails as I'm about to step into the game. On top of that it seems to of broken more than a few characters making it impossible to send tells to players.

The cover system Everything about this just seems like a bad idea and completely out of place from what the game is, not necessarily the PnP tabletop version, but quite frankly when I play nwn2 I expect the game to behave in a certain way different to the tabletop version. I look at my character sheet see my AB and expect that to be the result ((ignoring the flank bonus)). Cover just adds more complication and doesn't seem to be working as intended and is currently in my eyes completely broken, it puts me off grinding or logging in on any character to do so.

Dispelling So before the update had even come in I found walking into areas appropriate to for my pure cleric to go grind, I found the dispelling to be biased in the dispellers side, by time I was no longer getting stripped naked by dispellers was when they were no longer a threat and I had moved on 2 or 3 areas.

What do you like/dislike about the update?

listed it above really.

On a scale of 1 to 10, where would you currently rate things on the personal fun-o-meter?

I'm at around 7.5, once some of these broken things get fixed

I feel that this thread is missing a category

What you would like to see in the future

I would like to see more customisation options in game, the ability to change armor with more appearances and the ability to change each limb like other servers have.

I would like more XP for grinding, and not just solo but even more for being part of a group the bigger the group the bigger the bonus, it encourages a togetherness in the community more characters interacting with each other.

Remove the limit on party number and it removes a way of excluding players, this way we have a server being more inclusive than exclusive, raise the level cap of the party to 10 level difference as well.

but maybe that's just me.

A big thanks to the DM/Staff/Dev team on the server were going a rough patch but I know you are doing all you can to fix this and alleviate the problems as best and as quickly as you can.

Hope you guys listen to what the majority like and dislike about the update.

Also could we get a heads up about these big changes before they hit? A lot of it was unexpected and the bugs that come from it made the change unsettling also.
I play Medune I think? maybe? probably? I'm not really certain.

I know this is slightly off-topic but:
but I've not had much opportunity to RP with much in the way of other types. I more or less avoid FAI as a rule except for when I'm by necessity passing through, and that seems like the only place where different groups tend to run across each other right now.
It is more often the case than not, that one cannot find online the leaders or even members of various guilds and factions. On one hand, it makes a lot of sense, because the most powerful "groups" are those that log in during the same hours, most likely in the same timeline. It's really a numbers/population game—the more Players/PCs in a group, the more attention, the more investment, the greater reaction by both other Players and DMs.

On the other hand, there is nothing stopping anyone from sending out a PM or Rumor or whatever IC/OOC message needed to get another's attention. I have to do it all the time, because people can't read my mind, can they?

As an added note: I too enjoy more the "conflict" role-play, with protagonist/antagonist elements, heavy with risk vs. reward, and consequences. However, it is my experience that BGTSCC is a "light" Server when it comes to this, becauses Players are far too attached to their Toons—as fantasy versions of their Wish Selves—to risk the Game Over aspect of Video Games. Unless it is completely volunteered action, which isn't very consequential. I don't think the above is wrong, it is just boring.

Simply put: if you the Player are not willing to put your PC's fate in the roll of the Dice, you are not playing D&D.

Anyway, just dropped in to see what condition my condition was in...yeah, yeah, oh yeah....
