To our London players

Unread post by chad878262 »

You have a wonderful and beautiful city. Spent the past four hours walking around and I'm awed by all of the history here. Attended the Eucharist service at St. Paul's cathedral, walked across the London bridge and saw so many other fantastic architectural pieces of art and history. (I may also have taken a selfie beside a phone both that came straight out of Dr Who...)

It's great city, no doubt. Not many of us can afford to live there any more...

Hey, I'm just visiting on the company dime! ;)

It is definitely expensive. Basically everything costs in Pounds what it costs in dollars back in Philly, but seeing as Pounds are worth almost double...

It's a bit gray. And as a Norwegian, it is so weird to not see any wooden buildings at all.

One great thing about London, though, is that there's a pub at every corner.

London is a very beautiful city with beautiful historic sites. It's a perfect blend of modern megapolis with deep ties to its history.

IMO, Rome and London are the only cities, where it's totally worth it to just join some tour or visit all the famous locations by yourself.

However I have found the atmosphere and general attitude of people there to be the most hostile out of all the big cities I've visited, even Tokyo is not that depressing.

really? so far everyone I have interacted with (granted, this constitutes hotel staff, store clerks and bartenders  ) has been quite friendly. I haven't had anyone react rudely to me, though I figure that will change this morning in an hour or so when I head in to the office since my boss informed me that one of the head folks over here refers to him and american's in general as 'septic'... I'm thinking I'll introduce myself as the department of sanitation!

Well you're going to meet a lot of grumpy people on the tubes if you travel during the rush hour and probably at busy spots like Oxford St any time during the day. Otherwise, generally I've found that the busier the city, the less friendly it seems. You have to crack the ice, which can be difficult if you have no in.

To me New York felt a lot like London and I liked it, despite it not being as friendly as much of the US. A lot of US cities feel strange to Europeans, e.g. Los Angeles, due to the layout. I also recall being regarding as extremely odd in Dallas because I walked 300 yards to buy lunch (across all the parking lots), the locals all drove around the block and back (about a mile each way).

Cities from northern UK are far more interesting in my opinion. Glasgow, Edinburgh, Newcastle, Durham etc

London is too fast paced and the people too individualistic. It's fairly nice aesthetically though.

Got a burrito once in Camden Town (wife got the stew from the other stand). It had directions on how to eat the burrito. Hilarious. Did the whole "Globe Theatre" thing standing for four hours with a beer in tow watching Romeo and Juliet. It was acutally hilarious too. I think my boogers were black by the end of each day I went there.
