I don't even know where to start. I tried the server out while Bioware was still operational, though had a hard time finding people to interact with and couldn't decide on a class. (( Plus I was generally unfamiliar with the lore of just about everything, still am for the most part. )) Returned several times since then, but never long enough to get into my character or the game. Eventually I decided to go with a sort of summoner/conjurer type of character as if fit my sit-back-and-do-nothing play style. However, after returning I've noticed new changes to conjuration and summoned creatures/minions in general.
The summon creature spell now gives me an option to choose a different type of creature to summon. First off, bravo. I've always wanted this sort of control while playing this game. That being said, I don't fully understand the changes that would really impact my character and how I play as they were brought in after my gfx card went belly up. Honestly speaking, I'm trying to decide if starting a new character is the best thing for me given the many new spells and changes I've noticed.
I have so many questions that I don't know what to ask first! What role does character alignment play in the spells I use/choose/learn? What spell(s) should I not learn or use, or is it if it's available, I can use it and not be Killed On Sight?
I'm just so lost!
Here is my build in case anyone is curious.
I've returned, but everything's changed!

your build is fine and casters still do great on BG. 100% RCR is available until further notice if you would like to redo your character and/or try out new spells.
Evil spells are anything with the (EVIL) indicator in the spell description (vampiric feast, undead summoning/creation, etc.). I would be careful with something like Vampiric Feast and certainly would not summon undead or a demon or anything where anyone can see unless you know them and they wouldn't be opposed to such IC.

Would seeing someone with a summoned skeleton be grounds for a kill on sight play style though? Or is it really unlikely that a neutral character would practice necromancy?chad878262 wrote:your build is fine and casters still do great on BG. 100% RCR is available until further notice if you would like to redo your character and/or try out new spells.

Re: I've returned, but everything's changed!
probably unlikely as neutral generally "prefers good over evil" (after all it's better to have a good neighbor than one who wants to run over your cat..)
I suppose it depends on your backstory and RP though as far as if you would summon undead and under what circumstances (there is difference between doing so because you're out of spells and happen to have a scroll that you either use or die vs. summoning them on a daily basis).
If someone see's you summon a skeleton, depending on the character, it could result in PvP (a Paladin witnessing an evil act must IC'ly destroy the undead and the summoner) so it is best to use caution. If you are out adventuring and walking around with an undead the same thing applies, though I do believe you are still required to be given an RP out in that case.
"what me? I didn't summon that thing, it just wouldn't stop following me!"
