Half Orc RP advice?

Unread post by FlippinFerrets »

So I'm currently searching for a build to play an unarmed Half Orc, and really want to get into his character. He's going to be fairly low intelligence, or I'm hoping so. Not really sure how to go about acting as a Half Orc barbarian. Do I absolutely have to act a certain way, or can I just do some uneducated speech patterns and get away with it?

Something like; "So me see this bear, right? And me thinks, 'I wonder if bear is strong?' So me run at bear and punch it in face! Bear didn't like that, so I punched it again."

Is that about right, or should he sound dumber?

I think "RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWR!" Would suffice.

Oh, for sure! I'm going to do plenty of screaming. Just wanted some input on conversations that he may or may not have to be in. Speech mannerisms, etc.

Nah, his name is gonna be Gruk Gruk the bear biter. He got that title by biting a bear back once after it bit his arm.

Look forward to the story when it's fleshed out.

For sure. I was thinking the same thing.

I've never had to rp a stupid character before.

Maybe I'll just make him drool if people ask something a bit too complicated.

Rping stupid characters is easy... basically speak as a caveman would and act even worse when it comes to social interaction. Just be careful your speech does not end up becoming potentially weird... I rped with an orc once who kept asking me to make him hard, obviously he meant strong but that statement could be construed quite differently.

Hah! That is funny.

Now if I could only find a viable unarmed barbarian build.

Like half elves, half orcs may have strong human or strong orc features in their appearance. This may play into the mentality of the character, how others perceive them, how they have been perceived and how they view themselves.

Promise of the Witch King by RA Salvatore does showcase Palischuk, a half orc village in Vassa. A gauntlet of different types were presented, definitely colored how I viewed half orcs.

Low intelligence also doesn't necessarily mean they end up a brute as well. Perhaps they are easiliy tricked but fiercely loyal to their friends.

One of my all time favorite RPG characters was Daelan Red Tiger from NWN1 OC. A good natured, troubled spirit who never really fit in. That is one way to portray an Half Orc. You can do a classic brutish criminal on the other side of alignment specter, or a mercenary for hire if you are neutral.

Also, dumb doesn't have to mean socially awkward either. Social interaction and grace is a function of charisma, not intelligence. He could be polite and friendly, well mannered even, if you wanted, and have an INT of 6.

i just brought my half-orc to the server and there's a lot you can do with them they don't need to be stereotypical. sure they look orcish but i've seen them with dignity and strength like Arkaine Half-orken. i've seen them hilariously stupid to...play how you want and i will say my Orc is like a Onion. it has Layers
Clint James: OSR Knight Warrant
Throg Teethnasher: Half-orc Fighter
Bob Ratchet: Bob, Glitch and Frank can you figure out who has the intellegence in this trio, Gondite Inventor and Golem Addict
