Not a bad idea. I'll bring it to QC.

That's actually a decent idea.

100% up to level 20
and 50% uncapped past level 20 would be quite manageable.

constant 100% is a bad idea. There will be chaos, you know - you can create easy exp class, lvl up fast, rebuild on a super uber build you always wanted and don't exp it with all it's difficulities.

Second thing - you can exp, kill and do whatever you want and if something will go wrong - hey ! you can always rcr and be someone else!

It's like changing personality 0.o you see a guy...then you never see him cause hes a warlock now.

50% is awesome stuff...Or maybe a 100% once per character after reaching 15 lvl.

Id welcome that concept.

It still needs a bit more restriction though; as it has been said before one can be a level 19 druid and be known on the server as one, then poof! Suddenly his a blackguard, and with free reign this can go on, and on, and on, and on.

I totally agree with the 100% up to level 20, but I also agree it should only be allowed once every x days (month) or once per character.

Lets weigh up the argument for and against this:

For
- Player friendly
- Encourages creative builds
- Another chance if you mess up
- Peace of mind

Against
- Room for abuse (players can change race, class etc...)
- Nexus spam (adds to lag)
- Players can create a new character from thin air; with a high advantage without even earning it.

Overall, with some further limits on when it can be used, I think it is a good idea, but even with 100% till level 20 - its going to cause a lot of chaos, and should really only be used once/twice to allow a player to rebuild a character if they mess it up.

I know some may argue that players need to plan ahead, but it is easy to put a point in the wrong place or a select a wrong feat - to me - the 100% refund was a blessing! However ever since the Nexus has become a horde of players all rebuilding their toons, some to start fresh others because they have had enough of their class, this is not what we want - if it is to stay it needs to be limited to 100% till 20 / once or twice per character.

It's a weird assumption that people think players are going to rapidly RCR into new classes and epic new characters repeatedly.

The reality is, it's probably a small group of people whom have this behavior, and they shouldn't be punished for it. This sort of thing is out of character, and has no meaning on how they role-play. They could perhaps be the best RPer on the server, who knows.

The people whom would rebuild their characters repeatedly, already are doing this. So the argument against the 100% is kind of moot, because it already exists. The only thing the 100% RCR would alleviate is those specific people having to grind all over again, thus making them NOT RP. I'd much rather see someone else RCR and immediately jump into the RP.

I played here for nearly 5 years and only have a level 21 (My highest yet). Because I mostly RP, and I find grinding to be awful. While I likely won't use it on my high level, it punishes people like me whom are slow to progress.

I find it odd though how a lot of the people whom oppose grinding, also oppose the 100% RCR, considering it would lead to more grinding.

I think in the end due to people becoming attached to characters this system is primarily going to be utilized by people around levels 5-20, which many still don't know all of the systems, and thus gives them leeway to make a mistake and not feel like they spent 50+ hours on a build they dislike. People that are level 30 most likely already have their preferred builds, and are experienced in the system.

Also if I had a level 30, and wanted my character to die for plot reasons, because it somehow furthered the story for others. I wouldn't want to be punished with another xx amount of time grinding. Just seems petty.

In the end I think this thread wouldn't exist if XP gains weren't so rough, which I think is the root of the problem which should probably be identified first.

I think 100% RCR would improve RP. It would basically allow people to actually die, and not come back. Without involving DMs. That would be a good thing.

CommanderKrieg wrote:As someone who plays more casual these days, I can admit that I'd like to see the XP rates raised a bit. Perhaps have the XP peak for the first 2 hours of gameplay, and then resume lower standard rates? That should encourage some group grinding, and give incentive to cool off and RP some.

Most of the friends I have recruited to the server have left due to the full time commitment of leveling a character. Its true you dont need to be level 30 to have fun, but these poor guys have been playing on BG for 2 years casually and are somewhere between 10-15. Its sad for me that I cant bring them to the epic spots and share that RP.

thats just my opinion :)
Paws was level 21 for five minutes... and had truly needed RCR for a while (due to character changes)
... To date he is my only character that made it to epic levels.

I have no epic level characters.

More to the point: at the 23xp/kill he can get (in areas where he doesn't die), and in general my inability to be around for DM quests... xp has always been hard to come by for less-optimized (generally RP) builds. Had to rely on the maltz quest and finding the key for most of my characters.

50% RCR with lvl20 limit was perfect i think. 100% makes alot of classess really easy to make. I remember making my tiefling kaze no kama with 40% penalty exp. That was pain in the ass to level up but in the end i felt satisfaction and i knew it was worth all the time. Now ppl can easily make this toon up to 29 or 30 with just rcr a lvl 30 FS or whatever. It's just not fare. Keep the 100% RCR but put back the lvl 20 limit. Best option that.

Atlas wrote:I wish it would be left how it is for all time.

But here is my compromise idea:

Checkpoints at milestone levels.

At level 10 you reach your checkpoint, and can rcr as much as you want and receive all experience back up to that level.

At level 20 you reach your second checkpoint, and can rcr as much as you want and receive all experience back up to that level.

At level 30 you reach your final checkpoint, and can rcr as much as you want and receive all experience back up to that level.
Struggling with the logic in this. Just makes it painful for everyone who isn't level 30, while leaving all the possible exploits open.

I would kind of hope that the tail didn't start wagging the dog, i.e. that staff desire to run metaplots doesn't start to colour decisions made about how BGTSCC works.

Hah. keep your level 30's, and miss the joys of exploring the new lowbie areas.

If you're going to have 100% RCR, make leveling harder. I mean, there are already way too many level 30's running around. It seems the server is always half full of +++'s.

I've always thought that low level stuff is more fun. But I'd day exactly the opposite, if anything - make levelling easier but take RCR out altogether.
