Mages of Note

Unread post by Planehopper »

Hello all..

I posted a thread like this a few years ago and was pleasantly surprised how well it went, so I am hoping we can update this a bit?

I was wondering if you all could help me compile a list of regional mages of some notable power or renown. I am looking for PCs here, but will take NPCs as well to make it more 'real' and expansive.

They do not have to be epic-level powerful, though I'd suspect if they aren't known for their mastery of the Art that they are well known for some other exploits (events, RP, etc).

Long story short I am looking for a core list of "known mages" that one may acquire if time was spent asking around the various cities, villages, towns, and haunts of this server's region. If any of you have read the Forgotten Realms hardcover source book from back in the day, this would be similar to the "known mages" section.

These can be your characters or another's if they are known as mages (do not metagame names, only share if the knowledge could be easily attainable IC).

EDIT: link to old thread.. my guess is most of them are no longer active. http://bgtscc.net/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=39614

From that old list, Kael is still active I think, as is Telia.
Kahanak Habildof is the Khazark of the Thayan enclave in BG.

I am not opposed to those being listed, and in the end I will make a separate list for them.

It should be made clear, however, that these lists would likely be very regional. That is, one would need to be very well known to have renown in both Soubar and Beregost, for example. It is almost impossible to fathom an UD mage being well known anywhere on the surface, ya know?

A list of notable mages starts with- Charraj- The Calamity

Elias Goodmane- Leader of the now defunct Weavemasters
Selengil- Selengil is notable for things other than being in the Zhentarim leader
Aeili Azenci- The priestess of Mystra. There may be more one day, but right now this is it.
Myhun Kren- He's done almost everything.
Any Khazark- This includes Selah, Dmitri, Kahanak. Khazarks tend to be the public face of the Red Wizards. That Khazark that attacked the Gate with an undead dragon would be here too.
Rhys- The First Archmage of the Doron Amar. Responsible of a lot the wizardry stuff in the Doron Amar and negotiations with Baldur's Gate.

I'm probably missing a few villains.

There are quite a few wizards that are/have been popular in lesser spheres of influence. Example, being around Candlekeep, you would know of Laitae. If you venture to the Elven settlements of the North, you would learn of Kael. They wouldn't be regionally known.

In the Underdark- Mainly Seventh Circle head mages
Ilphryssin Arkentlar
Valshar

Where are they known? Would they be limited to a specific area (see above) or region wide?

my sorceress attacked the gate with an army of undead and dragons, then blew up half of the palace district resurrecting tiamat... does that count? :P

tho she was very good at staying off the radar, so few people back then knew her

Lol. I would think that would put her on the radar if it was ever connected to her?

Is she still active? I can put an "assumed dead but still known" section?

Ok, so I broke it out into a few regions. Please correct any wrong assumptions. I erred on the side of caution and put most into localities rather than saying they are known far and wide. If anyone needs represented in more than one area, or moved to region-wide, please just let me know.

All listings are open to final interpretation by the player of the character, and the DMs, but I would love suggestions from anyone that make sense IC. Thanks.

Ambrose Valexus - the armored sorcerer who officially held the rank of General during the retaking of Darkhold, and could be considered the brains behind the operation. The right hand of every Dreadlord who operated from Darkhold since its retaking. Also, the only non-cleric PC (afaik) who was officially inducted into the clergy of Bane by Fzoul Chembryl himself, taking on the self styled title of "Autarch".
