Server down again, got "Server is shutting down now!" message though. So doesn't seem to be DDOS.

Server started to slow down again, then the message popped up in the log "Server is shutting down NOW!" Then booted.
I'm guessing this is part of the new anti-DDoS tactic? Rebooting the server when it detects sudden lag spikes?

Thursday was silly, my work gave us hams for Easter. I had to cargo net a ham to my hog.

We're currently working on a fix. At the very least, though, today and part of tomorrow may still be kind of frustrating if the attacker is totally intent on ruining your weekend. So please don't bank your weekend plans on having stable server access this weekend.
Still, I'm kind of excited at the prospect of having a better idea than ever before on what's going on. Feeling cautiously optimistic -- but not a five-minute fix, so expect conditions to continue as they have been for a little while longer.

Server just crashed at 1:20 AM EST but came right back up. No lag really.
