As the elven woman was already for different reasons at the temple outside, she made a small stop, speaking with quiet words to Sister Rachel. Asking how long estimated the recovery would take, and on the mans general condition. She'd leave the room as soon as her answers were given, thanking the sister again.

There seems to have been some disturbance in the temple of Ilmater two nights hence.

After a sharp discussion with a bearded visitor, Dorne, Telia and Brother Ameris were seen leaving in much tension, and heading towards the harbour.

They returned later, accompanied by Eldarian, Berea and Aeric; with Ameris supporting a seemingly injured Father Marcus into the infirmary. There, Eldarian and Berea were seen helping treat the priest.

Conversation took place between Brother Ameris and Sister Rachel, with the view being expressed that Ilmatari priests should not leave the temple unaccompanied, either moving in pairs or asking for a Brother of the Radiant Heart who happened to be present to accompany them.

Ameris makes sure to share this conversation with the other Adorned, making clear there is a risk of kidnapping.

A bright young human has been attending the morning service the past week. When he is present at the temple he is found to be devoting himself to prayer and intercession in the chapel more than serving the kitchens or infirmary - as if he is preparing for some arduous undertaking or bares a great spiritual burden. His clear, choir voice may be heard six times daily singing traditional Ilmateri chants in the chapel.

He introduces himself to the general congregation as "brother Sigma", a missionary from Neverwinter.

Backstory
Hidden: show
This meek man confesses integrating himself with a tribe of orcs - no doubt a lengthy process and one hard to imagine for this tonsured youth. He admits being beaten, strangled and caged on his first arrival, and that his not being killed outright was by the grace of Ilmater rather than by his meager knowledge of their language and culture.

The young priest is under no illusion that the orcs are a war-like and savage people, the cause of much suffering in the realm. His conviction is that their slavery to barbarism and the communal suffering that results from such violent tribal culture matters in the eyes of Ilmater, and that their mortal souls be of equal significance to that of any created being. Therefore, he has much love of them, and much desire to see them liberated and converted.

Sigma lived among the orcs some months preaching the Lord on the Rack and setting forth the examples of mercy, compassion and endurance in all his dealings and counsel. He healed the battle-wounded and helped some orcs pray in their own language to the Crying God for salvation mercy on their death beds. Without a shaman leading the tribe in the way of Gruumsh there was less conflict than there otherwise could have been and, over time, Sigma became relatively accepted in the tribe.

But Sigma never saw the good fruit of his efforts. Unexpectedly, the tribe was attacked by a rival orc warband over a dispute about hunting territories. Sigma could only watch as his congregation was decimated. He was captured alive during the vicious fighting and prevented from dying with these orcs he had come to know and love.

Finding himself a prisoner of war Sigma was dragged for many months behind the nomadic warriors who, having witnessed his healing power, spared him as a miracle man and used him to heal their injured after raids. Several times Sigma was traded from one warband to another as warrior groups mingled and split. Eventually a warband's numbers were thinned out enough that a band of elven adventurers who had been tracking them for weeks were able to launch a successful ambush and rescue Sigma.

They escorted the priest to the nearest city - which was by this time Baldur's Gate - and it is here, at this temple, that he began his recovery.

A letter is left in the temple of Ilmater boasting the official seal of the Song of the Morning.

The outside of the letter is addressed to "Brother Ameris."

Ameris is a regular sight in the infirmary, as usual, but also seems to be focusing as much as he can on home visits to those with chronic sickness, the elderly, young families, and those known to be poverty stricken or experiencing social problems.

Such visits are a long established practice for the young priest (and other Ilmatari), especially since the temple began keeping detailed records of diseases and patients treated at the suggestion of Laitae Lafreth. However, the crises of the past few months have meant that the day to day comfort of long term patients has often taken second place. The priest appears to be doing his best to make up for that currently.

His time is stretched, of course, by his duties in the infirmary, and the need for him to be present at Pathfinder's Hall each morning, for a time in the afternoon, and at night. His focus is likely therefore on the most vulnerable first, and likely on those in the East Gate given the likely better knowledge of those in its immediate vicinity.

An Acolyte of Candlekeep arrives at the Temple of Ilmater; she has clasped within her hand a missive that has been sealed with a simple wax seal that bears the symbol of the Broken God. "Do pardon," she kindly directs towards the robed woman she encounters near the foyer. "I have a letter from Miss Sylvi to Revered Sister Juna. With whom may I leave it so that she receives it?"

The scribe good-naturedly chuckles along with Adolina after the woman's comment. "Gratitude for the directions! Enjoy the rest of your day."
Alexandra respectfully dips her head towards the cook and then makes her way towards the indicated building that serves as the orphanage.

After hearing of the arrival of several diseased adventurers, Priestess Aeili immediately sprang into action. She found the trio recovering in the Temple of Tyr and insisted that they transfer to quarantine in the Temple of Ilmater for special observation. Even the Ilmateri register of patients had been filled out properly. A report was left for both the duty nurses and the temple priests.

The following was recorded in the register of patients.

First Name: Amano
Surname: Hime
Age: 28
Occupation: Adventurer
Next of Kin: N/A
Place of Residence: N/A
First Name: Alcarin
Surname: N/A
Age: 23
Occupation: Songstress
Next of Kin: Elrie'wien of Doron Amar
Place of Residence: Friendly Arm Inn
First Name: Faye
Surname: De'Lynne
Age: N/A
Occupation: Priestess of Tyr
Next of Kin: N/A
Place of Residence: Temple of Tyr.
The following report was left for the nurses and temple priests.
Disease Quarantine Incident Report
Date: 9th of Tarsakh.
Patients: Three, female. Refer to register.

The three adventurers were battling sickly trolls and undead in the Troll Claws, not far from the settlement of Kraak Helzak. They reported some kind of dust cloud which was present in the Troll Claw Hills which they breathed in which may have been a contributing factor.

Symptoms: Intense fatigue, aches and pain over the whole body, accompanied by muscular weakness. Reported vomiting of worms or maggots, followed by shortness of breath.

Treatments: They were administered initial curatives by the druidess Onna'Evatril in the hills before they made their way to the farmlands of Baldur's Gate, after which they entered the Temple of Tyr.

The three were cured by a Paladin of Tyr and transferred at my insistence to the Temple of Ilmater for quarantine and observation. Patients treated with a lavender and olive leaf extract aromatic baths to keep their heads clear and extremities clean of disease.

Discharge Orders: Patients are to bathe twice per day with five drops of olive leaf extract added in order to avoid potential spread.

Visitors permitted, but only medical staff permitted within 5 feet of patients.

No restrictions on food or beverage intake.

Discharge after three days if no further symptoms develop.

Signed,
Priestess Aeili
Temple of Mystra.

Ameris is seen accompanying the Ilmatari shopping for the food provisions for the temple's soup kitchen, in order to purchase a small supply of salt. This salt, and a handful of coins, is used in a series of rituals over the deceased gnomes held within the temple, preserving their bodies while a further ritual is prepared.

Another step is added to Ameris' daily routine. Either before he leaves for the temple in the morning, or before he arrives back at Pathfinder's Hall at night, or at some point during the day (but usually before or after his quick afternoon visit), the priest dons his armour and heads off in the direction of the nearest sewer entrance. He would invite any of the other defenders of Pathfinder's Hall to accompany him, if they were available. He would emerge from the sewer some time later having wandered the tunnels beneath the east gate, and cleanse himself in the Temple; disgruntled a little, perhaps.

Most of the priests would remember Rico, the old farmer who hid out in the temple during the Blight. A short time ago, he vanished, saying he had things to do.

The past few days, he has reappeared, assuming some priestly duties. He doesn't stay long, but he always makes a point of talking to the injured when he is there.

Brother Sigma, the missionary from Neverwinter, comes to recognize a routine in the temple of Ilmater. Night after night, Ameris returns to the temple having acquired a demeanor and a smell as foul as each other. After the third occasion, the young man has become intrigued and concerned enough that he determines to inquire as to what burden the man of Ilmater has taken upon himself, and whether he might be able to walk with him in it.
