Dervish regions
Are there specific regions from where a Dervish can originate in FR settings?

Re: Dervish regions
Good question.
The short answer is no. There is no lore requirement to be from a certain place.
Are there places which one might expect to generate more dervishes? I am aware of nothing printed. Zakhara has dervishes but they are divine casters.
Brainstorming: guesses would be variants of barbarian tribes that are less brute force (you know, the same RP territory as whirlwind frenzy. Think the riders of the Shaar, perhaps, or the raiders of the Calim desert. Rashemen perhaps as well, or other nomadic barbarians not from the northern Sword Coast. I suspect its a local practice or choice to focus on mobility in combat to such extent.
In my opinion its as likely to be linked to faiths in FR. Think Lliira, Sharess etc. For non-humans: Eilistraee? This agian is just brainstorming
By way of factions, perhaps also Harpers might have dervishes amongst them. Again, brainstorming
But the reality is those are just RP hooks, not DM expectations. Its a bit of an open book in FR

Based on what I read on the net, Shaar might be a good choice, but I'm not sure what is the state of the Shaar during server's time. In online maps it is listed as "Desolation of Shaar", which is a post-spellplague desert.DM Golem wrote:Good question.

Ideally I would need a region where Akadi is known, where planetouched are possible, and (ideally) at least SOME sort of elven settlement.
If I'm not mistaken Shaar borders Mulhorand, holds (desolate) shrine to Akadi, so it would fit.

In this timeline the Shaar is a large, verdant plain that stretches a long way. Here is a link for you which includes a map! http://www.realmshelps.net/faerun/shaar/index.shtml
The humans of the Shaar include nomadic tribes that serve Akadi, and gather for worship at a hill called Blaskaltar
Genasi are plausable here. Not least because the Northwestern Shaar (the "Border Kingdoms") are Calisham's old colonies from the time of the Shoon, and the relative commonality of Air and Fire Genasi in Calimsham could feasibly lead to these bloodlines spreading into the Shaar from the Border Kingdoms. Of course, the Akadi link as well could justify such genasi
The Misty Vale has a xenophobic, isolationist population of Wild Elves within it. Its not too far from the Border Kingdoms and from Blaskaltar.
Hopefully that helps!

That does help, but the character is a tiefling, not an air genasi.DM Golem wrote:In this timeline the Shaar is a large, verdant plain that stretches a long way. Here is a link for you which includes a map! http://www.realmshelps.net/faerun/shaar/index.shtml

It still sounds somewhat plausible, though, given the geographical location.
