Counterspell

Counterspell still isn't working for my sorcerer. Rolling always 0 on checks.

Additional feedback:

Shouldn't the use of counterspell feat be made instant and animation free?

Right now it takes a round to target someone by using the feat, then a round of attempting to counterspell if target casts and another round to cancel the counterspelling... It's so clunky and the animation ("I counterspell YOU!") is completely OOC.

Despite what the patch notes say, counterspell is still not working on my sorcerer. Caster check is still always 0.

And reserve feats stop firing once character fails to counterspell a mord.

Could this be something that affects sorcerers only? The OP's character is a sorcerer too.

Counterspell still doesn't seem to be working correctly. It drained greater dispels and mordenkainen but not normal dispels (4th circle). Maybe something was blocking them as I had constant checks with very low CL (even some negative rolls: "-2 (me) vs 30 (opponent)") after my Greater dispels and Mords were depleted.

Improved Counterspell doesn't seem to work:
Hidden: show
When counterspelling, you may use a spell of the same school that is one or more spell levels higher than the target spell.

I agree that Counterspell should be animation free and also have no floating text message. I consider it a defensive ability but if you use it in a PvP situation, it can be seen as an aggressive act when it is just basically like a fighter turning ICE or IPA on.

From what I understand from the few D&D books I have read by Ed Greenwood, counterspells are always a surprise. There is no cue giving away that a character is going to counterspell.

Err... as far as I know, most builds with ICE/IPA build don't treat toggling those abilities this way. Those abilities are very close to being OOC action (like toggling hostile), and pretty much there so you won't need to tell the game each round that you're fighting defensively. Fighters that rely on ICE heavily sometimes ALWAYS have this ability on.

Now, floating message is bad, but treating it as hostile action is overkill.

Just managed to log on to test the recent counterspell fix.

Caster checks seem to be working now. Managed to successfully counterspell a mord. (Though I did not counterspell long enough to experience the additional bugs matelener posted above.)

BUT invisible needle still breaks after the act of counterspelling. Log says I do not have the requisite spell to trigger the ability. :?
