What exactly *is* the controversy? I've gotten pretty far in the game so far, doing pretty much all the optional content. The only 'SJW' thing I've found is the cleric of Tempus, and the two quests that involves them are optional. So far it seems that you can play the entire game without even talking to them. Is there more?
Calantyr Thantos - Wandering Sellsword, Helaeya Tor - Accidental Warlock
Saerin Hrathan - Thing Knower, Ysrai Rikharr - Gray Wolf Uthgardt Warrior
Vicaeria Keniryn - Unsheathed Blade, Rikvi Stalvaskr - Falling Paladin
Rhaeya Koadessin - Netherese Survivor, Thokk - THOKK SMASH!

The big kerfuffle and whine-fest was over some transgendered merchant, and something about Minsc saying a line of dialogue that was intolerant, or perceived as out of character for him. :o Talk about game breaking! Apparently some people get bent over the dumbest shit imaginable.
There are no level 30's, only level 20's with benefits...

Not exactly Snarfy. For me it was the changes to the personalities of well established characters to fit the whim of the writer. The commentary I read in which every female character now had the same personality, namely that of the lead writer, and that the writing was amateurish. Also, the childish way the Beamdog staff reacted to criticism, ultimately putting in IG comments from Minsc about game critics. Seriously, the stuff I read from the staff makes me never want to buy a product from them again. But yes, some people do get bent (out of shape) over the dumbest shit imaginable, including Beamdog and his staff.

The controversy is overblown. The GG have a somewhat valid point, but then they blow it out of proportion with 10 different accounts to down vote the game and troll n stuff. I'm not surprised by the result, considering it's shared work.

The writing is a notch less good than original baldurs gate. The transgender npc is political, yes, but it's just a 10 second out of how many hours total until you finish the game? Mincs' line didn't faze me one bit. Just some wink wink line I couldn't even tell if it was good or bad. The original baldur's gate game is so old, I couldn't tell the changes in personalities.

I never understood this gamer gate thing. Wasn't there when it happened. Wikipedia speaks of "whining on forums", "posting personal information of game journalists" and "online death threats". Considering the very small proportion of people that did these online threats and doxing thing versus the huge amount of people just annoyed by political messages in new games, and the apparent inability to dissociate the two ( it's like saying all blacks are criminals or all asians practice kung fu or whatever ), I just can't take this "gamer gate" thing seriously.

The game has a few bugs here and there. My Lawful Evil character with 3 reputation could only recruit good and neutral toons before moving, not the evil ones like Tiax. I guess that lawful aligment counts for a lot! But beside these little flaws here and there, which makes the expansion a notch less good than previous Baldurs', they did a good enough job to make me wish they'd make another, a new one rather than baldurs gate, with the same graphics.

Starting to see the flaws of Beamdog. I really hate that Dorn Il-Khan dude. He's clearly the favored of Beamdog, with twice as much in game comments and quests related to him, yet half his sentences starts with I and the other half are how pimp he is or insults / degrading comments. He's like the least interesting NPC to have around.
