Just throw good Wizard builds at me
As my main got permed, I'm looking for something new, but still a wizard.
I think I will stay out of the BM, PM classes, I'm still getting my head around it. I think I love the idea of an INT based caster. I do not think that I will go for a sorcerer.
So, if you could suggest me some builds, that would be nice.

Re: Just throw good Wizard builds at me
With all of the new summoning spells, a Thaumaturge flavored wizard build would be fun. I have a Wiz/Thaum/Archmage right now, who used be to a blast, but I haven't RCRd him to take advantage of any of the new stuff.
That said, Thaumaturge still needs fixed. The planar cohort is using the summon slot, as opposed to the companion slot, which really soured me on the class. The RP of having a planar cohort that was always around, and still be able to use your conjuring spells, is what sells the class. Hopefully it will be fixed (I haven't tested this in a week or two).
---
I am currently playing an arcane-based gnome techsmith and really enjoying him. Likely not the most powerful thing out there, but the RP has been fantastic so far and I can see it expanding well. There are many avenues open for Techsmiths.

Wail of the banshee and finger of death. And for everything else, you have ASoC metamagics for firebrand, orbs and IGMS.
It has 29 + spell level DCs in all schools, 30 + spell level in one school (evocation here), and 31 + spell level in one school (necromancy here).
It is very much a DC mage, but because of ASoC, it has blasting capabilities as well. Which makes it fairly versatile.

What High Arcana's you take? With changing it from an int +2 race to a human, will drop the DCs by one, but I would have one extra feat, what do you reccomend?Deathgrowl wrote:Wail of the banshee and finger of death. And for everything else, you have ASoC metamagics for firebrand, orbs and IGMS.

Just two spellpower. I don't bother with the rest. You can of course go wiz10/asoc10/archmage10 as well and get like mastery of shapes, mastery of elements and arcane fire as well, but that loses you 1 epic feat. Means you get 1 lower int, or lower by two and get an epic focus to retain the DCs in at least one school.
What feat would I recommend for a human? I don't know. Craft wand? Might get you popular!
Maybe another greater focus.

If you're not opposed to worshipping Shar, consider 16 wizard, 4 archmage, 10 shadow adept.
Take the following feats: Spellcasting prodigy, spell focus X, greater spell focus X, true believer, Spell focus Y, greater spell focus Y, Extend spell, Skill focus spellcraft, 7xGreater Intelligence. Archmage gives two spellpowers.
You end up with DC 34+spell level in two schools, and a base CL of 32 for defence and CL 39 offensively for the three schools.
It's a high DC build that specializes in control spells. It's what a wizard should be doing. In my opinion all the Arcane scholar builds are simply inferior because arcane scholar is all about doing damage. Sorcerers are far better at this, while wizards excel in DCs and switching out spells for the situation at hand.
Being able to cast color spray at DC 35, or blindness at DC 36 for your lowlevel spells is quite fantastic, and boost it with a DC 43 wail of the banshee to kill everything around you. With a build like this you help control the environment, rather than doing damage like the arcane scholar builds. This helps your allies far more, as whatever damage an arcane scholar does is largely inconsequential compared to what almost any other class is doing.
Do what wizards do best. Control. This build is for that

Well, I do not want to play a Shadow Adept. If not that, what do you reccomend?Karond wrote:If you're not opposed to worshipping Shar, consider 16 wizard, 4 archmage, 10 shadow adept.

Also, I would avoid BM or PM for roleplaying purposes.

Re: Just throw good Wizard builds at me
Since there are RP prerequisites of human, no PM, no BM..consider coming up with a character concept, a personality, history, and future goals and THEN coming up with a build that works with it.
I know some people do it the other way, but I think if you worry less about power building right off, and more about story and connection, you may have more fun. I know I do. Come up with a concept, and then optimize around that if you want.
Do you have a character type in mind?

Re: Just throw good Wizard builds at me
Actually, after several discussions, I can say that the concept became quite flashed out, and it changed a quite bit.
It will be an elf, and a sun elf to be exact, and quite on the elitist side (I probably made my first rp choice which is not horrible from building standpoint, although it was not intentional). Form the prespective of the build it is enough that, PM, BM, and Shadow Adept will not fit, archamge fits very well though. I imagine I will

I do the same, but I figured that if I recieve a lot of builds, one will fit the bill.Planehopper wrote:Since there are RP prerequisites of human, no PM, no BM..consider coming up with a character concept, a personality, history, and future goals and THEN coming up with a build that works with it.
