Warlock Devil form build.

Unread post by Groburn »

Hello. I want to ask about what works in Warlock's Devil form and what doesn't.
Do transfers from items work the same as druid's shapeshift? Do weapon focus and weapon spec add to devil form's AB/DMG? Will Damage Resistance epic feat add to the devil form's DR?
What do you guys would be better Warlock16/fighter12 or a few more warlock levels for dark foresight which will add +2 dodge bonus AC and some saves or Warlock/Monk would be better overall for some reason ???

Not all magical buffs transfer, thus you can't be entirely sure that DR or enhancements will transfer over to the form. Your best case scenario is to have abilities toggled by the Skills panel (Hide, track etc). If you want a build that's centered around devil form, you want to ideally go for 18 warlock/12 monk. This will give you greater flurry for your devil form (plus monk speed i believe). I even think you can throw on Dark Premonition/Foresight.

Weapon Focus can't be attained through fighter, because the Pitfiend/Cornugon form uses creature-weapons. Also, as all of your physical talents change when you shift (Str, Dex, Con) none of your fighter attributes will carry over. I also think that the wisdom AC carries over from monk to the form. The form is a late bloomer however, given that greater flurry does a lot for the amount of attacks, but before it benefits it needs devilform, which is also late.

I just saw in the test module that Weapon Mastery Unarmed actually gives DMG/AB bonus. Weapon spec doesn't and not sure yet for weapon focus. I have to test it some more. But on the test module AC from gear doesn't transfer . Anybody can tell me if AC from gear transfers in the online server ?

EDIT: Weapon Focus (Unarmed) Adds to AB as well as weapon mastery Unarmed. DMG from Weapon mastery also is calculated but dmg from Weapon specialisation is not.
Only question remains now is that if the AC from gear transfers. Gonna just RCR and test it online.

Jegs module is not trustworthy and isn't really supported (some feats are buggy in jegs while they work on the server).

You can make warlock/monk or warlock/duelist and be very hard to hit while polymorphed. However, I wouldn't expect a lot of damage from this.

Dark foresight/premonition, as far as I remember, will persist if you cast them BEFORE polymorphing.

Devil form is very tough for lowish levels (pre 20), but beyond level 20 that you'll be getting destroyed, unless there's a wizard to buff you.

With monk/warlock combo, you can be a very hard to kill tank, though.

Oh, you also can't knockdown/disarm in this shape. Which is a shame.

Speakin of AC, the form completely ignores all your equipment (IIRC). That's different from wild shape where some bonuses transfer to the form.

Oh... That's a bummer. I found that Warlock/Monk/Fighter is the best combo for AC/DMG/AB but in JEGS also the weapon focus unarmed shows that it adds to AB in character sheet but it actually doesn't when i attack something. And it's a shame also that AC From gear doesn't transfer. If all those worked it would have been quite a neat build. I've made Lock18/Monk4/Fighter8 which seemed to be the best combo for AB/AC wise. Only if weapon focus worked on it and AC from gear transfered....

The only good aspects of the devil form is how badass it looks, the regen, and the fact that you can carry a lot. Otherwise it's useless.

Actually, as Moltrazahn mentioned, the best idea would be to go for 11 levels of monk which will unlock greater flurry. Because that one should work while polymorphed and will give you few extra attacks and higher ac, because monk's wisdom bonus translates into AC and you retain your wisdom when you polymorph.

Fighter would just be a waste levels here. (now if we had "weapon focus: creature..." that would be another story), plus your saves will be lower (you'll want high saves just in case someone throws "banishment" on you, which they will definitely try).

So if you were going for this kind of build, you'd want to max wisdom.

It also has spell resistance on it, immune to fire and poison and has acid/cold DR 10. You can stand in lava and cackle maniacally while polymorphed. For the extra fun use red text for cackling.
