Kukri flury
So I was always curious, why isn't a kukri considered a monk weapon? Doesn't it seem like it should work with flury of blows? Thoughts?

Well, it is "because the rules say so".Akroma666 wrote:So I was always curious, why isn't a kukri considered a monk weapon? Doesn't it seem like it should work with flury of blows? Thoughts?
Mechanically, it is most likely because of kukri's wider critical range. Monk weapons are 20/x2, 19-20/x2 or 20/x3.
Kukri is 18-20/x2.

Kukris are Nepalese (Gurkha) knives. They are not usually associated with Monks.

It is unfortunate that they never put in sai's, nuchaku or nitambo. If anything it would make more sense for monks to have access to katana through flurry, though it would require several proficiencies to make it work. Still, monks are in a very good place and have some very viable builds. Adding kukris to flurry would really seem to only help powerbuilding.

I would hardly see kukri as a power build.. But your right, I wanted to do a kaze build with them for funzies. Can't do that
I just thought they loomed cooler than kamas...

D&D monks are based on Shaolin. Shaolin monks don't have katanas. Katana is japanese weapon... and japanese warrior monks had different weapons (naginata, wakizahi, etc).finneas wrote:It is unfortunate that they never put in sai's, nuchaku or nitambo. Yeah, I know they were more kung fu than karate. I was just stretching to find anything even close to an asian weapon. Surely the dao would fit more than the katana.
