Increased lag

Unread post by NegInfinity »

The server appears much laggier than it normally is. I think the delay between the moment you clikc ground and get back the respons is at least doubled.

I think that corpses might have to do something with it.

Keep in mind that the server is full and there was an event going on. There were some lag spikes but nothing major for me. Still it is something to keep an eye on.

Usually, events where there are a significant number of players present in one area tend to cause lag, even for other players not participating in the event. It may not be the only cause of lag spikes that happen, but it is one factor to consider when wondering why a given time of day may be lagging.

Sorry, this ain't events. There's noticeable overall reduced responsiveness. There's more lag, and load times are significantly longer. Most likely culprit is the new loot system - because those shiny vfx are stored on the server and shouldn't be much different from just leaving ALL loot bags lying around.

I actually thought it was more smooth last night (after the DMs were done) than it had been in a few weeks.

There was significant lag twice yesterday, but each time there were events going on (evidenced by the large numbers in DM areas).

I'm not saying you weren't lagging, just that your experience isnt universal on this one.

I only noticed lag during the events thursday. Been smooth for me since, I played a couple hours last night and about 45 minutes an hour ago. Felt just fine. Last night, it was in the 7th - 9th hour, and there were lot of effect bags. BTW, those glow effects have WAY less information, therefore less lag, than actual lag bags and loots bags that have not been cleared.

I don't know, maybe it is just bad luck, I logged in a hour and half ago - longer than usual loading screens, lag spikes, and poor responsiveness compared to normal. Same as the last time.

Cannot confirm that without digging through details of nwn2 protocol.
You see, if you see it, information about it needs to be transmitted to you by the server.

Yes, those say, "at that point, make this glow effect". That glow effect is already installed player side, so the only information is "yes it exists", "X, Y, Z coordinates" and "which effect"

Unclaimed loot will have what loot is in there, including all of its properties, (which is a ton more information), drop model, as well as "yes it exists", "X, Y, Z coordinates" and "which effect"

Are you 100% sure about it or is this is a guess?

Because default reasonable protocol behavior will be to spawn a loot bag, assign id for it, then request its contents once it is opened using its id. Meaning a loot bag would generate same amount of traffic as a vfx without owner.

Merchants appear to work this way.
